Gotham The Official Camren Bicondova is Selina Kyle Thread

Who wants to see Catwoman as some 14 year old girl, anyway? I'm not excited at all for this series. It's like they are trying to go the Smallville route, except nobody gives a **** about Bruce Wayne BEFORE he became Batman (I'm not talking about his backstory like Batman Begins). Totally pointless.
Personally I'm far more interested in this show since they announced Selina's inclusion. Her character has been vastly undervalued outside of the comics even in Nolan's films, which I love. I always felt she should have been in all three. And they clearly are not going the ''Smallville route". My frustration with that show was that Welling looked ready for the tights by it's third season. With the casting for Gotham I can't see us wanting the young Bruce to don the cowl anytime soon.

I agree. I feel that Catwoman is amongst the 3 most iconic female characters in comics alongside Wonder Woman and Lois Lane.

So, do you guys think we could or should see kid!Selina and kid!Bruce interact and share screen-time for a majority of the season, or do you think they'll mostly be kept apart as story-lines that occasionally cross but never quite intersect?

The actors are thus far the only peers of their age group, so it's tempting to say we'll get The Adventures of "Matches" Malone And Selina The Cat Lover as a side story this year. But as others have pointed out, having Batman encounter too many of his young foes takes some of the mystery away, and Harvey and Bullock actually have a job that gives them a reason to run into the pre-mask rogues and heroes. we've talked about it before, but I'd like to hear some more in-depth responses.

Pretty much how I feel.I'll give it a shot, but Bat/Cat babies as the subplot to Gordon waging war on "pre"-Bat-Villains is hardly the most compelling pitch when you have the networks filling up with the likes of Arrow,The Flash,AOS,Daredevil,Luke Cage,Iron Fist,Etc.....

Oh hey, how about you DON'T speak for everyone? There are plenty of people interested in seeing both characters journeys into the characters we are familiar with.

She looks so much older than the kid playing Wayne. There's a picture of them together where she looks like a grown woman.

And here she looks like a kid.

Bruce also looks like a pampered one-percenter, so that's another big difference in their looks.

You do realize Smallvile started as being about Bruce before he was Batman. That was the original pitch.
I actually can' remember why they switched it to Clark, but any hoo.

Also, if you STILL don't think that anyone cares about Bruce before he was Batman, well beyond the journey explored in Begins (no idea why you think that does anything but completely disprove your point, his backstory IS Bruce before he was Batman,) check out Kevin Smith's Fatman on Batman podcast where he and Paul Dini outline a FANTASTIC series pitch focusing on Bruce in school.

Selina's arguably got the most potential out of all the cast listed so far when it comes to her backstory. She has no agreed upon comic book origin story; all we know is that by the time she's an adult, she's an exceptionally good thief who can go toe-to-tow with Batman.

Bruce at least has the same rough history in all medias;

Parents die->Anger issues->travel the world->ninja skills->detective skills->return to Gotham->Bats in the belfry->Batman.

Right now, we know we have an acrobatic thief who steals milk and likes cats. Who are her parents? Why is she an orphan? Does she have any mentors or caregivers like Alfred? Is she going to have amnesia at some point? Does she know a young Bruce Wayne?

In short, there's so many fun questions that this show can answer, and since she's going to be a supporting character, they'll probably give her important character development in rapid succession to make up for lost screen-time.

Shots from the new trailer show her scanning Wayne Manor and infer she's watching Bruce climb its rooftop.

Seems to confirm they will be companions for at least one episode.

And the rest of the episode seems to establish that a gang war is about to break out. If Carmine Falcone exists, this might be his first move on the rest of Gotham.

Nice

I can't wait to see her and Bruce relationship develop over the course of how many season's this show last's knowing their future's.

The goggles really make me hope this is the costume we get, when the time comes...

I couldn't bare to watch a cute 14 year girl develop into something sexy before our very eyes

Catwoman is my favourite female comic book character, and I have to say, I couldn't be more disappointed with the direction they're taking the character in this show. Before Catwoman, there was Catgirl? Really? I just can't...

A big problem I have is the destruction of the Batman/Catwoman dynamic. They've never been childhood friends, or even interacted with one another when they were children. By making them childhood friends, they're changing the entire dynamic, and that's just something I can't get down with. It's a cheap gimmick to get people to watch what looks to be a weak cop show, and as a life long Batman fan, I refuse to support this show butcher some of my favourite characters.

...Is the under-aged prostitute or amnesiac flight attendant a better option in your opinion?

The direction they've chosen favors the 1990's Dixon and Balent origin, where the character developed her skills in her extreme youth and was already a poor orphan.

It may be a bit too much at this point, but I think they're justifying her hanging out with Bruce by having her be the one to teach him how to roof-hop. Making her experienced in this seems more plausible than having her already be a master thief or going the opposite direction and having her suddenly sprout skills when she grows up. It also does infer her full theatrical identity will follow in the wake of Batman's premier, which I've always liked as an idea.

And you have to admit the romanticism of a parkouring street rat taking an interest in an orphaned blue blood probably strikes a chord with a wide audience.

Is she too developed as Catgirl already or is it something else in your opinion?

....Yeah.... Selina Kyle never had a childhood or a past, she's always vaguely in her late 20s/30s.

If you are a life long Batman fan, you should be able to accept changes to it's mythos...since it's happens all the time. Bane from TDKR has a changing character dynamic with his relationship to Ra's and Taila, Harley Quinn changed Joker's dynamic from pre-90s. Having a extended Bat family changed Bruce Wayne's dynamic from the early comic years...ect ect...

but Oh noes! this is "butchering the characters"

What dynamic? This isn't a Batman series so the dynamic they are known for having as adults is irrelevant here. That dynamic isn't being changed bc it simply isn't coming into play by nature of the timeline

I love Nolan's trilogy, and I'm open to changes and reimaginings, but I can't promise I'll like all of them. Over the years, I've supported majority of Batman media, but this is something I refuse to support, due to the fact I don't like what they're doing.

I don't like the idea of a Gotham City where before Catwoman there was Catgirl. I'm not interested in a so called cop show that quite clearly needs to use Batman villains as a gimmick to draw viewers in.

So it's not a case of not accepting changes, because I do all the time, it just a case of me not liking the said changes being made this time around.

You're right, this isn't a Batman series. It's a cop show using Batman characters as a gimmick to draw viewers in.

My point is, if it ever got to a point where we did see this universes Batman and Catwoman, the dynamic will be completely different due to those characters growing up with each other. For example, instead of Batman letting Catwoman go because of this attraction he has for her, he'll let her to because they've got history, and because they grew up together, which changes the classic Batman/Catwoman dynamic.
