The Official Choose A Director Thread

They announced that when they announced the formation of DC entertainment, it was in the press release if I'm not mistaken. Geoff Johns is the producer and coming up with the story for the flash (and shazam) along with writer Dan Muzeau. They still haven't said what morrison or wolfman are working on so it may as well be superman for all we know.

ah I really need to take more notice in future :D thanks

I hope they are lol

Exactly.

Plus, Raimi is a huge fan of the Donner movies as evidenced by different nods throughout his Spider-Man films. It's important that they find a director that is ready to move on from those Donner movies and start something fresh.

He's a Donner fan? That does it for me. His SM movies were a little too cheesy, anyway.

I love the donner movies but I agree that its time to move on. I wanted a SR sequel but have accepted that we'll never get one and that was the send off to the Donnerverse.

Of all Sam Raimi's films as director I've only seen the 3 Spiderman films, however I've heard Drag Me Too Hell is an entertaining watch as well.

He seemed to do a good enough job with the Spiderman franchise bar Spiderman 3 which he was forced to include certain things he didn't necessarily want to use.
He also kept fairly loyal to the source material as well.

One of the things I liked about the Spiderman films he made was the sense of "comic book'ness" about them, I thought it worked quite well for the Spiderman character & could work for the Superman character as well as Spiderman is somewhat of a "goody two shoes" like character as well to a degree.

Bottom line, I can't think of a reason to say no..

His Spiderman movies were very good (except for 3 of course, and maybe he could have cast a better MJ), so i think he could do a good job with Superman since his tone is pretty close to Spiderman's. I dont know...

I'd be worried that we'd end up with another Superman Returns. We need someone like who JJ Abrams was for Star Trek. He was not overly sentimental about the original ST, but he did love other stories in that genre and thus was able to move the franchise forward. For Superman, they need to get someone who is excited to work with the character, but doesn't feel particularly sentimental about the original Donner films and is willing to drop the antiquated ideas from them and freshen things up.

check out evil dead 1 & 2.

This is one director from a previous franchise, who's films actually prove he could do well with the character, as they are of a similar character. This is in contrast to Burton and Singer, who's superhero films really had nothing in common with Superman, other than they were comic films.

That being said, Raimi already made two fantastic Superman films, they were called Spider-Man and Spider-Man II.:cwink:

yea jj and raimi are likely not options. Would i like to see them give it a go ya. But we know its probably going to end up with some young up and coming guy/Studio controlled guy like its been stated sorta and all that. As for being a fan or non fan. I would like if they are a fan but just not a fan of one take of the character but a fan of superman in general and get who/what he is.

WB needs to find Superman's Christopher Nolan...

- A director thats ready to move on from Reeve and Donner (I love them but time stops for no one).

- A director that will make the bold choices visually and with the required story elements.

- A director that will forget the John Williams theme and Lex Luthor's obsession for land.

A director that will drag Superman screaming and kicking into the 21st century.

He's out there somewhere...

I completely agree. Superman needs a director who is forward thinking but truthful to the character.

Raimi should direct a musical with his 'raindrops keep falling on my head', Jazz Club dance scene and street strutting scenes are anything to go by.

Asked about The Shadow, Columbia Pictures' adaptation of the legendary 1930s pulp hero, Raimi added, "I don't have any news on 'The Shadow' at this time, except that the company that I have with Josh Donen, my producing partner, we've got the rights to 'The Shadow.' I love the character very much and we're trying to work on a story that'll do justice to the character."

WoW? Freaking WoW? I guess it makes sense since millions are addicted to it.
I'd rather get a Starcraft or Warhammer 40.000 movie instead.

^ As long as Bruce has the title role.
I'd put norris and hasselhoff in it as well.

Should they go after him?

Without a doubt, they should. He could be the one to steer this character back to where he needs to be.

Will they go after him?

No. As somebody alluded to on the first page (Sorry I forget who it was), WB is going to be involved in this product along with DC comics every step of the way. Raimi won't want another Sony 2.0.

WB's need to realise they dont know whats best. Look at Batman & Robin I mean yeah luckily Batman Begins andt he Dark Knight came off the back of that but they nearly destroyed the Batman franchise. All they care abouts is selling merchandise off the back of these films if they're so bothered by the toys they sell they should just do a Superman and Legion of Superheroes movie I bet the kids parents would shell out tons on the toys they would make from that. Surely they realise with the freedom they have given Nolan on Batman, Superman would benefit from having its own Nolan.
