So they're really going to go the "Smallville" route when it comes to the whole Batman issue. I wonder if's because of the film division or because they generally don't have an interest in doing Batman and prefer showcasing his villains.

Gotham is Batman's answer to Small the minute it was a prequel and that batman will not be shown until its finale, similar to what Smallville did with Superman.

Jeez, why don't you just go ahead and upload the whole episode, FOX!! :o

Yeah, seriously, eight clips is too much. I only watched half of them, just because I want to be able to maintain SOME level of surprise.

Anyway...

Question: I would love to have some scoop on Gotham. I really need some spoilers about Bruce and Alfred. —Veronika
Ausiello: Be careful what you wish for, Ronnie. Gotham boss Bruno Heller told Matt Mitovich that although stabbing victim Alfred will be up and about when the Fox drama returns on Monday, he’ll have a dickens of a time stopping Master Bruce from discovering “something about his family that is earth-shattering.”

Thomas Wayne was a smoker. And since Disney has banned smoking from its movies etc, it will put Bruce at odds with disney.

BEN MCKENZIE WARNS OF DARK DAYS AHEAD FOR JIM GORDON

Thought this was interesting...
You knew going into "Gotham" that it was going to be a Batman show based in the past, with no Batman. With the first season almost over, have things gone as you anticipated they would in terms of the reaction to the show and its success?

I think the thing that's true of all first-year shows, at least every first year show that I've ever been on -- and I've done three now -- is it's impossible to predict almost anything in terms of the reaction to the show by the public at large, but also the evolution of the show itself. This show in particular has had an interesting first year. I'm very proud of it. I've grown a lot. I believe in the first year. I think we've learned from some mistakes that we made in the first year.

After we made what I consider a very strong pilot, we ended up on a detour where we became a little too procedural. We became a little too focused on the crime of the week and we were using villains that were not really from the mythology. That did a disservice to the mythology that we were trying to serve, and to the fans. We've adjusted. We've introduced villains with multi-episode arcs. They are from the mythology by-and-large and the grandeur of Gotham is more fully exposed. We're learning as you learn on the first year of a show. You can only learn by making mistakes and correcting them.

As far as the reaction to the show, it's been incredible. I honestly expected a little more flak. Any time you enter into a universe that is beloved, people have strong opinions. By and large, it's been incredibly positive. Obviously, the show is a hit and watched all over the world. I know that we can do better and will continue to do better in Season Two in terms of the stories we're telling and how we tell them. But, I'm very proud of the show. So far, so good. I'm particularly relieved that the primary criticism of the show -- a Batman show without a Batman -- at this point, I believe has been shown to be a misunderstood complaint. If one is really a fan of Batman and the world of Batman, I would think discovering how Batman came to be and how the villains came to be, is fascinating to me. At this point, we dodged that bullet for the most part, but need to live up to the expectations of the fans.

Thank Christ they seem to be going back to Oswald's early episodes hair. That s*** has looked terrible recently.

You know what I would love to see, not just in Gotham but in any Batman origin story?

Some fricking social workers!

I mean, seriously, while it may make sense to give Alfred custody of Bruce Wayne, that decision ultimately would have to be made by child services and then a family court. And isn't anyone going to suggest some counseling for the kid whose parents just died?

Social workers? Gee, what a fun potential storyline.

Not a storyline, but just a few short scenes where CPS is interviewing Bruce and Alfred and whatnot, just to let us know social services didn't just handwave the fate of a wealthy and famous boy who just got orphaned.

I always assumed that Alfred was named as Bruce's Guardian in the Wayne's will, should both Thomas and Martha pass away.

That's the way I always understood it.
I have to ask, is this one of those things that really needs to be explained? Can't people figure out this kind of thing on their own?

Clearly you've never been party to an issue involving child custody. The answer is yes, it is and no, they can't.

Jim Gordon made that very suggestion in the 2nd episode after learning that Bruce burned his hand but Bruce refused to seek counseling.

Right, but that's not supposed to be Bruce's choice.

Batman: Year Two features a character called Reaper, an ante-hero who is willing to kill and Batman becomes the better alternative. Would be something interesting to introduce around season 5.

Looks like Bruce will be taking Selina to upper class parties. I really hope my theory of them making a deal between the two of the, is true. Selina can teach Bruce how to roof-hop and maybe some pickpocketing tricks, and he can give her some pointers on the real world value of the stuff she steals and give her her first foray into high society.

And the conflict inherent in that arrangement would actually be engaging.
