And back to 'HULK in the Avengers'. AVEITWITHJAMOS - Your avy is a stunning reminder of what ILM can do with the HULK, unfortunately the director didn't know what he was doing with HULK... TUESDAY??? I HOPE FOR A HULK SIGHTING!

I don't follow the comics that much, did Zeus fight World War hulk or just savage hulk? Is World War Hulk the strongest incarnation of the character?

WWH probably is the strongest incarnation of the character yes, but The Sentry has apparently fought Galactus to a standstill and he couldnt beat the Hulk in WWH.

Not that familiar with Marvels version of Zeus so dont know how strong he is.

To each his own I guess, I personally loved Ang's Hulk film and what he did with the character in it. Was also more faithful than TIH for me.

I prefer Ang's film also. I felt it had better character moments for the actual Hulk persona over Letterier's.

There were some very good performances in Angs film, but overall the film didn't work. Having the hulk be 30 ft tall or whatever he was in there, totally took away from those character moments. He tried to remake King Kong rather than make the Hulk. Not to mention the film dragged, and dragged and ultimately lost all interest, it's no wonder it bombed so horribly.

It's also way too complex and Ang got too artsy fartsy. They have flashbacks within flashbacks, like Bruce flashing back to a picture of him and Betty at the cabin in the woods, then her flashing back to when she was a kid at the base being left alone by her father in the ice cream shop. The film was just a total mess that way.

It's not the worst superhero film ever made, but it's by far the biggest dissapointment. Letterier's film had a more sympathetic Banner character, and the fact that Banner was more interesting, made the Hulk more interesting. The biggest problem with the latter film is that it doesn't make a clear distinction on wheather it's a sequel or a reboot. There's an assumption that you already know who these characters are, yet the characters have drastically changed from Angs film.

If Marvel had allowed Letterier to keep in the deleted scenes, the Incredible Hulk would have had greater character moments than Ang's, imo. These were some great emotional scenes that got edited out:

I loved the way it hinted at Banner kinda enjoying that release of being Hulk. And at the same time the Hulk resenting Banner the "puny human".

I also felt Ross was characterised better. And that 20 minute rampage in the desert is still one of the best action scenes i've ever seen in a superhero movie.

I don't really favor the idea of Banner enjoying being the Hulk. I prefer the Hulk being a burden on Banner's life, but a necessary burden.

Well it's still clearly a burden. But it's like with everyone. Everyone has that thing inside them where all their emotions are bottled up and they want to release them. The conflict Banner had is that if he loses his temper, it's not gonna be just some hissy fit! :D

Definately, I got a lot more into the characters in Ang's film because I was allowed too by the films development, the characters in TIH were a bit one note, and the characterisation was much closer to the comics for me.

That fight against the Sentry was awesome! :awesome:

I dont see how a movie about The Hulk can be too complex, in the comics, the Hulk is way more complex than Ang's movie even presented, personally I loved how complex the movie was, it got into the Hulks character and showed he was more than just a Hulk smash character, something TIH didnt do IMO.

I did enjoy Ang's Hulk as well, but preferred the story of TIH. Ang's Hulk really showed how powerful the Hulk really was. You felt as if they really couldn't stop him. The only problem with TIH's Hulk is that he never struck me as being mind numbingly strong. I particularly didn't like it that Abomb kicked him through the building cause it just made him look too weak. I've noticed that Joss is making Captain much more agile than he was in The First Avenger, which is much more fitting to the character. I suspect the Hulk will be more in line with the comic's representation of his power as well.

I liked when Abomination kicked Hulk through the building. It was a great super-powered blow to the Hulk and it showed that the Abomination's strength could be a foil to the Hulk.

Cap wasn't agile at all in The First Avenger, which was a shame. Same with the Hulk's strength levels in his movie. Hopefully you're right, I've been hoping for that exact same thing.

Well in the comics A-Bomb is stronger than Hulk when they start out anyway. It's only when Hulk gets angrier that he gets stronger.

Couldnt agree more, In Hulk he was much stronger and his feats of strength much more impressive, he also seemed able to take a lot more and he showed clearly a healing factor.

He was a bit too watered down in TIH for my liking, and I didnt like the slower healing factor and lack of jumping.

They are now, but to my knowledge A-Bomb has been a nickname for the Abomination preceding that.

I think the abomination kick wouldn't be a problem if Hulk showed similar strength.

I agree, I wanted Hulk to do something as equally impressive as Abomination's "super kick".

Basically the Hulk is a metaphor for our id personalities, that's what Lee and Kirby were kind of shooting for, and writers have tried to expand upon for decades. Ang did get that part down, but it may have been a little TOO accurate.

I love that Ang Lee's Hulk even got made at all. It's like Batman Returns; weird movies that Hollywood execs wouldn't dream of making 90% of the time (and regret making after). Yet occasionally huge blockbusters turn into unique art house movies. And since the crushingly commercial Transformers 3 has just outgrossed Return of the King :(, it's nice to know that sometimes these special, odd films are out there.

Yes, the Green Scar/Gravage Hulk is the strongest of the 4 core personalities and the most interesting to me. As much as I love Joe Fixit and the Professor, the Green Scar is incredibly complex and his story arcs like PH and WWH are some of the greatest ever written in any comic book series.
