Yea, Peter David is the definitive Hulk writer imo.

He was mine too...until Greg Pak came along. Peter David seemed to go through Hulk's entire history at the time of his run and put all the little subtleties together.

My only problem I had with his run was that he would in story handicap Hulk's powers.

Bill Mantlo set the foundations for Peter David to build on. His contribution gets a little too easily forgotten.

I've always appreciated Mantlo's Hulk too. He certainly was as inspired a writer on Hulk as Peter David. It was only recently that I truly understood what he was attempting to get at with his run on Hulk. I loathed his Cross Roads story in my younger days, but I understand where he was gong with them now.

Excellent stuff really.

Hulk looks great!!! I also like how he has much more muscle definition here than what he appears to have in the other scenes. But to me, the above gif just solidifies how iconic and awesome it would be if his SHIRT color was actually his PANTS color. And--before the sound of a thousand keyboard strokes deafens the place--yes, I know that it is much more realistic to have a man change into a green monster than to believe he wears purple pants. :whatever:
Still, I like my heroes classic.

But Teach...now you are talking about suspending disbelief....and everyone knows that a guy in purple pants should not be able to move like the Hulk does in those frames.

Yep Slaps Thor around.

Hulk is becoming Marvel's Superman.Except he is beating up his own people.Somewhere in this mess the Hulk Mythos got lost I hope they find it again.

Still haven't seen Hulk slap Thor around, infact they're still kept pretty level, even in Fear Itself.

I've said it before, Hulk is too powerful for earth now, they should of kept what they started with Planet Hulk and have Hulk out there in the cosmos fighting beings that can actually contend with him.

I was just joking about the calming down thing.... But wow, I had no idea that two people already tried it on the Hulk. Guess if someone wants to put him down they need to call Zeus. :word:

As powerful as Hulk is , several opponents can beat him if they fight smart and use their powers effectively. Opponents like Thor,Silver Surfer, Gladiator come to mind.

Not sure if it's been discussed, but I wonder if in Avengers, Banner might learn to control the transformation or call up The Hulk when needed if you will. After all didn't the ending of TIH point towards this. Not to say the transformation can't still occurr uncontrolled, triggered by unforseen events, but it would make sense to me that Banner might have learned, under controlled circumstance, to release the transformation. It's a risky endeavor, for as the provocation post transformation escalates so would the Hulk's potential for uncontrollable rage, and hence not something Banner would allow off-handedly, but putting the transformation under some self-control would be an interesting twist.

This is pretty much my guess. I don't think it'll be *quite* "flipping a switch," but he probably will have a pretty good handle on himself, such that he'll usually only transform either when he allows it or under severe provocation. And your dead on for why he wouldn't do so casually: because even under the best of circumstances, the Hulk is still the Hulk.

I'm hoping the final battle is a controlled transformation. From what it looks like, his transformation on the Hellicarrier is not voluntary, but it's quite possible that Banner chooses to unleash the Hulk to combat the alien threat and unleash a severe ass-whooping.

As for Hulk being overpowered, honestly, that's just under certain writers, like Pak. If the writer doesn't job the opponent out, then there are a decent number of people who can get into fist fights with him and pull 50/50 or so: Thor, Hercules, Namor. That's not even getting into cosmic types who should just plain beat him.

The Hulk is powerful, really powerful. He's a Class 100 brick at the top end of the range, with extremely potent regeneration. That's nothing to take lightly. At the same time, its not the be all end all of existence, either.

Just found this slowed down enough to tell that Hulk does SMASH the 2nd alien with the backhand, then smashes a 3RD after that:

Hulk has handed Thor his butt on several occasions even in the animated Hulk vs Wolverine and Thor.Which was a joke.
On your comment on leaving Hulk in space there is no need for that he has a planet with plenty of people who can contend with him if they would just depower him a little lot.

My thoughts exactly...........I suspect that, Loki steals the cube from a Shield base aided by a controlled Hawkeye...after being located with Banner's aid he is captured by Iron Man, Cap and a reluctant Thor, and is imprisoned on the helicarrier...where he subsequently escapes by controlling Hulk's transformation. The ease with which he manipulizes Hulk causes him to rebuke Stark's..."We have a Hulk" threat...with the "pitiful creatures" retort. However Banner, who has already been working on somewhat controlling Jade Jaws, intensifies his "training" allowing Hulk on round two vs Loki to be the heroic Avenger rather than Loki's patsy, much to Loki's surprise and dismay.

...and he also rescues a puppy:cwink:.

I liked Thor's comment to a possessed Hulk in Fear Itself that he could never defeat Hulk...right before whacking him into space. "Until next time, Banner." A polarizing moment for sure.

Hulk VS Thor is the only time in recent events that Hulk has done that to Thor and is generally considered a joke by fans, even me who is a Hulk fan through and through.

What's the point in depowering him when there's plenty of powerful rivals out there in the cosmos? I think Earth is too small a stomping ground for Hulk now, they should of completely ditched the Hulk family idea and just had Hulk go off into the stars with his Warbound, taking the good fight into the cosmos.

I think it would be to keep him grounded a little bit. I've never liked the idea of Hulk fighting the cosmos, but that's just me...I can understand the opposite side. I prefer my Hulk earthbound, duking it out with other heroes/villains. Hulk should have weaknesses as well as his insurmountable strength and power...makes him a bit more relatable...to me at least.

See I think if you get him out there with the really big hitters it'll show he isn't completely invunerable, in a way it is depowering him because he won't be the top dog anymore, infact he'll be closer to the bottom of the pile. I think it'll be really interesting to have him at the bottom of the pile, somewhere he hasn't been before, having to rely on more than just his strength to get him through the battle, it'll wisen him as a warrior and add so much to the character imo. I imagine they keep him away for a while, like a year or two then have some major event on Earth where the mightiest beings are needed, so people like Hulk and Thor will get recalled to Earth where he can show all that he's learnt. This is kind of what they started with Planet Hulk but I feel it needed to be expanded further.

I agree with both of you :woot:

That is a great idea kirmit I think it would add a lot to his character

The only time Hulk "hands Thor his ass" is when the writer has Thor job to the Hulk, when they're written correctly their fight should be fairly even.

From what I've seen so far Hulk looks great and Mark Ruffalo looks perfect as Banner.

Even until Thor decides not to mess around anymore, and either use some of his exotic powers or just dimension dump him.

Yeah they NEVER allow Thor to use all of his powers when he fights Hulk, he just turns into a stupid version of himself that only uses melee attacks.

Like when Thor fought Red hulk.

The idiocy astounded me.

It's "I forgot I could fly" syndrome.
