Spider-Man The Official "I Loved Raimi's Spider-Man' Thread - Part 1 of 99 Luft - - - - Part 13

wonder how long it'll take for him to take the blame for the trash that is going to be venom

and for being the reason why we'll never get a symbiote saga in the MCU.

Thanks for not learning a single damn thing, you old doddering fool.

Edit: Double post. Trying to get used to these new boards but sometimes it gets janky!

I haven't watched the Raimi trilogy in years so I decided to watch it this weekend. Raimi's kinetic direction and action scenes are amazing. Spider-Man 2 is still one of the superhero movies ever made and I don't think anything from the MCU will ever come close to it. Raimi and Bill Pope make everything naturally stylistic, comic booky without being too stylized. Ah Rosie, I love this trilogy!

Unconventional, but I rewatched the trilogy in backwards order over the few days before the PS4 game came out. SM3 grows on me more every time I see it further removed from the expectations and atmosphere of the time it was released. It stands as a fine but flawed film, you can tell Sam Raimi tried his best to bring it all together. SM2 I love, and every time I watch it again somehow my appreciation for it increases. It's just a really tight story with strong focus on what it wants :cwink: and resonates with me emotionally the most every time. You feel the weight of his responsibility and the guilt he feels and understand why he wants no more of it, and that process of him coming to terms with who he really is deep down is just a great character study. SM1 is total fun, I can't think of what else to say right now other than I need to get to bed and sleep!

The new Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse trailer features some cool homages to the Raimi movies at the beginning with the stopping the train, upside down kiss, and car being thrown at the diner shots being recreated pretty faithfully. That's cool, movie looks fun as well.

I rewatched the trilogy not long ago. Third time watching the editor's cut in place of 3. I really enjoy the subtle alterations in that version, super grateful we got it.

I can't be the only one reminded by that moment of Spider-Man carrying his elderly aunt May after the bank heist stuff from Spider-Man 2.

This trilogy still holds such a huge place in my heart, and I still think Spider-Man 2 (2004) is the greatest Marvel film ever made and on my top 3 Superhero films of all time. The MCU has not made a single film that could even compare to Spider-Man 2, in my opinion, and the first 2 raimi films in general are so unique and original. This trilogy didn't need to follow a specific formula, or tone. It had Raimis hand prints all over it while still staying faithful to the comics and the character overall. From the cast, to the story, to the score, and everything else, Raimi nailed this character more than any director has so far, and I'm sure some people won't agree with me, but it's true. The first 2 Spider-Man films are the best film representation of the character from the comics, and even Spider-Man 3, while flawed, was still a fun movie. People trashed it so much at the time, but it's still much better than some other films since then.

I just want to say Thank you to Sam Raimi to bringing this character to life the way he was meant to be, and I'll forever be grateful.

To the Raimi mobile.
All the excellent trashing of the new Venom movie makes me want to watch this trilogy again, Spider-Man 3 mostly.
Three weeks after this post was made.

And this remains one of the most epic film intros ever made.

I watched the first movie again yesterday, so today I will watch the MTV cartoon instead of moving to Spider-Man 2.
A wonderful poster (although I'm pretty sure the picture of J.J is from Spidey 1 and the picture of Peter holding the suit on bottom right is from Spidey 3).

You're right about the picture of Pete, but I don't know if J.J. is really from the first or a flipped image of another movie, but I think both pictures fit the theme of the movie fine.

The movie storybook of the first film has, like later happened in TASM, Peter learning that the carjacker was the thief he let get away but then not finding him, if that had happened in the 2002 film comics fans would probably be quite upset but film critics might think that was an interesting borrowing of an element from Batman-but it would probably feel too dark in an otherwise pretty light film.

I watched the CGI show from start to finish after watching the first Raimi film again. It's a shame that it is very skippable as it could have been more, but it's just there.

Time to watch the sequel they designed to be a true sequel.

Spider-Man 2 stands as a great entertainment of a spectacle after all these years. I do not think it's a great movie when it comes to quality, but the joy meter hits the highest point.

I always appreciate that they got inspired by Jon Marc DeMatteis take on Aunt May, that guy wrote her in an awesome way, and it's the best take on the character before Joseph Michael Straczynski gave us his take on her starting with his glorious talk story.

Composer transition from Danny Elfman to Christopher Young feels so natural in Spider-Man 3.

Done watching the trilogy this year, and what a joyride. I'll try to watch it again next year.

If the third film had ended with the funeral scene, Mary Jane walking away and Peter alone, would audiences have interpreted that they were definitely broken up or instead just that their relationship status was ambiguous? And would either have felt too dark or would ending with ambiguity have felt more interesting than showing a reconciliation? Although some still interpret the reconciliation ending as ambiguous.

A new thread where we share and post our favorite Raimi Memes wouldn't be a bad idea. That Reddit is amazing.
