Gotham The Official Jada Pinkett Smith is Fish Mooney Thread

She was wonderful. I thought I would hate her, especially after I realized Pinkett Smith was (inconsistently) attempting to pull off an accent, but she was actually one of my favorites.

I don't think she was legitimately trying to give the character an accent. It was more of a "Let me put on my classy, upper-crusty facade to hide the criminal underneath". Plus she runs the theatre district, so I guess she can be a little... theatrical.

Whatever it was, I doubt we'll see much of it going forward. I won't complain if we do; believe it or not, I thought she managed to pull it off. It came across as the character deliberately trying to be charming/quirky rather than the actor trying too hard.

She was clearly having fun with the character, and things I've seen from her where she talks about the role indicate that she's deliberately emphasizing the theatrical nature of who Fish is.

She was ****ing awesome I thought, very badass.

She called your bluff, bruh.

Jada is fire! She should never take time off from acting again. I hope she has a long stay in Gotham.

You know I didn't have much excitement for her character my damn she was one of the best parts of the show I kinda hope she crosses over to the comics.

I keep forgetting Jada. I actually enjoyed her. Anything to do with the mob, i thought was good stuff. She was having fun and it worked.

Jada was a blast. She looked great in those outfits. Fish Mooney is off to a promising start.

Mooney and Cobblepot are the highlights. Followed by Gordon.

Penguin is gonna off her. Penguins eat fish. :cwink:

I liked her a lot in this, but why the hell is she called Fish?

Jada was butta baby! I love her character and think it's a damn shame that we are just now seeing what she is fully capable of as an actress. She's always been a competent actress.

I've found that alot of good character and supporting film actors are able to shine over a series. We've seen film actors like Jim Caviezal, Robin Wright, Kerry Wasington ,and Kara Sedwick all have great flexibility to show their talent over a 24 episode season then to have smaller bits in a 2 hour feature film.

Performance was good. The name of the chracter however is: horrible and done for obvious reasons. Pretty obvious: Penguin will off her (Penguin eats the raw fish or something like that) -> lame.

I know, right? It's not like this genre would ever give a character the last name Zeus and then have them commit crimes with a Greek myth gimmick. Or make the name of a character with a riddle gimmick be E. Nygma. Or make the villain with a clock gimmick William Tockman. Or giving the character that inflicts vertigo on people that actual last name of Vertigo!

None of that would ever happen...

I prefer the name Tempus Fugit, personally

Or a Scientist whose last name sounds like the word freeze ends up needing to be frozen just to live, Or a man obsessed with calendars is named Julian Gregory Day.

Or a woman who gains ice powers who happens to have the last name "Snow."
