Batboy99...Kingdomhearts and the rest of the Katie fans...a bit on Batman
on this WB Farewell review:
THE POWER THAT WB by Angel Cohn (TV Guide)
So for old time's sake I had to tune in for the WB's final night. I didnt expect to be so sad. My boss,Dan has written about the impact of the network in its 11 year history but for me so many of the WB shows werent just groundbreaking, they were like family. Buffy,Angel,Dawson's Creek and Felicity were the ones that the network chose for its farewell party, I might have opted for Everwood and Charmed instead of Angel, just to break up the Vampire slaying, but watching four pilots brought up so many fond memories. It was, however a little surreal to rewatch these shows knowing everything we learned about the characters during the course of their series.
...Finally, there was Dawso's Creek, out of the four this was the one that stood out so watching the pilot was a sweet treat again.Little Joey Potter talking to Dawson about walking the dog seemed edgy then but hearing how kids talk these days it just seems quaint. These days many associate Katie with Tom Cruise and Batman but Katie Holmes has always been absolutely adorable. From Joey's shy smile, her first experience with lipstick and her verbose arguments with Dawson were still my favorites of this series. All the music just killed me because it was like a time capsule.
Speaking of which, I loved the retro promos that they ran of James Van Der Been and Scott Foley driving in a jeep. One had Scott singing Paula Cole's Dawson's Creek theme to Dawson and James asking the deep question to Scott on whom he will pick "Katie Holmes or Kerri Russell".
I was much more amuse by these than the Smallville guys running into the Michigan J.Frog.
Ah Michigan. I was delighted to see that they brought back the old mascot for the goodbye clip. I got a little misty mostly looking back at all the series that has come and gone in the past 11 years.
The WB shows meant a lot to me during my college years and just out in the real world years. Im just grateful that the WB decided to show these shows when they departed from the airways keeping it simple yet classy sendoff.
So long,WB. You'll be missed.
My thoughts: Batboy99 the critic and I agree with you that I prefer Charmed too airing than Angel but I think Warner Bros.got their favorites too and Joss Whedon's babies are one of them.
Charmed was also appropriate so its their tribute to the great Aaron Spelling who was so big in television biz.
Warner that night so highly touted Katie Holmes and their WB logos showing their pride I thought Batman would appear. Even my buddies felt the same way. Talk about sponsoring Katie Holmes.
And interestingly, Sunday night ratings belonged to Football but the WB farewell was strong for the network and especially the final hour of Dawson's Creek was the highest of the hour for the WB with an increase of 4.7%. I like to think its the power of the Batfans(Im among the losers that did tune in after football)
I know other Batman boards did they were checking out Katie's beginnings.LOL!
Btw, Scott Foley chose Katie Holmes over Kerri in answer to James question.
This was the final Goodbye clip that closed the night:
