What do you mean? Her exit was very on screen. And yes, even when the character was useful for the story, it was incredibly poorly acted. THAT is sad.

Her character is an established figure in Gotham City - an A.D.A., in a city where the D.A. was just killed. Not only that she is the one person in the D.A.'s office that has shown to have a back bone and willing to stand up to crime. SHE is the one that led to the prosecution of Falcone. That makes her not simpyl an important character to Bruce, but to Gotham City and all those who are trying to make the city a better place. Now can her position be taken by Harvey Dent? Of course. But I want to see that transition be made on screen. Even if it is one scene explaining her departure (her transfering to metropolis, her murder, etc) just give the character a suitable farewell.

She ended the possibility of a romantic relationship with Bruce, but she's still his childhood best friend, and she still holds a rather important job in Gotham City, one that a major character in the sequel needs to somehow step into. So first you have to explain why they no longer are just friends, even though they were a couple for a total of maybe 5 seconds (not an exaggeration, they kiss, she tells him it can never be), then you have to explain why she's no longer a Gotham City D.A. and why this new guy is in town.

The end of BB explained everything that needed to be said regarding those two. What more is needed?

She never was D.A. just an assistant to one.

and why this new guy is in town.

Because the former D.A. was shot and killed, so they got a new hotshot that just happens to be very formidable in the job. It's not something that has to be spelled out, you can infer all of this from watching BB.

I doubt a Mrs. Cruiise would accept to be there in a big movie just partially.

True if they throw her a bone of a role then she might not take it considering she's a busy family woman and getting other offers nowadays.
But Im still not giving up on my hope to see Rachel Dawes.

Katie worked with Keaton before,with Joel Schumacher, and now Inside Edition said according to the Bracciano Italy and Castle keepers when she got married rain means good luck in Italy and the castle had many bats that lived there and they often scare many tourists but during her wedding day the bats behave and didnt cause any commotion.
Add the Batman cast and crew gave TomKat a lot of love on their post wedding bash so this means Katie cant escape her Batman destiny.LMAO!

I also like the ongoing romantic miniplot of Bruce and Rachel. For me personally its pathetic to have different partners because everyone knows the outcome of the story that it cant work out for them.
So why bring in a romance premise in the first place?
Is it to lure the women? Women in general dont see pimps as heroes.
Its also not entertaining to watch a guy that falls in and out of love quickly with different girls. Batman becomes inhuman,cold and cartoonish.
Im even shock to learn that the James Bond franchise will keep the same leading lady Eva Green for continuity and richer character development in this new 007 franchise. Smart move by TPTB.

Bond 22 according to Moviehole,Hollywood reporter etc said Eva Green will be back and it will partly delve on Green's beau who is of Algerian decent the one who gave her the knotted necklace.

To put away some rumors because the tabloids and other Batman forums are talking about Katie being preggers again CNN Showbiz and MSNBC news said the Batman Begins Beauty is not pregnant as confirmed by her rep. Its hilarious to see on Access Hollywood and online videos paparazzis throwing punches on each other just for the Katie Holmes money shot.
L.A.P.D. had to put a stop to it. The paps are idiots.

Meh. She is a bad actress, but I think Rachel is a good character. I also think her connection with Bruce should not be ignored, but rather explored and exploited for the second movie.

Well we know she is in the DA's office so she oculd be working with Harvey Dent and more intrestingly she and Gordon are Batman's confidants. Well what if....to get to Gordon, Batman or Dent or whoever, Joker pulls a Barbara Gordon on Rachel....except he kills her and then takes those photographs to torment Dent or Gordon instead of paralyzing her.

The effect it would have on Bruce would be altering and force him to lose his relative young niavité that he had in the first movvie, even at the end.

It would continue a relationship that shouldn't be regarded, make her an even better character while building up the Joker's character and removing Katie Holmes from the franchise.

I think it is an option. Make her a supporting (and tragic) character in the second and then move on with er no longer in the franchise then.

The end of BB explained everything that needed to be said regarding those two. What more is needed?

First of all, why does she suddenly need to leave Gotham? If she had any other job, I could see her staying in Gotham and just not running into Bruce. But she works in the D.A.'s office, as will a major character in the next film. The two are bound to run into eachother and... no... it just wouldn't work. If Rachel stays a Gotham D.A., she needs to be shown in the film.

Second, why can they no longer be friends? Okay, so lifelong childhood friends have the prospect of a romantic relationship appear for about 5 seconds before it's shot down, and now all of the sudden have to never see eachother again? They walked off together at the end of the movie holding hands, they're obviously still close friends. There's absolutley zero reason for them to stop being friends, just like they were before this Batman stuff ever happened.

Didnt the moviehole insider awhile back said when Katie was mentioned to be working out that maybe because she might be running from the Joker?

Maybe with Rachel's life in danger she could be on some protection program but little she knows its secretly backed & funded by none other than Bruce Wayne. Its a good set up for her to return once the Joker goes to trial on part 3 and we need another D.A. once Harv becomes a wacko.

According to other boards Michael Caine was on Israel TV last week and the network asked him about Katie. Caine on his usual jokester mode replied he should be retired and not working anymore but they let him do the work while the rest of them parties(guess he meant TomKat's post wedding party).
He says they all love for Katie returning to do the Dark Knight and it will be disappointing if she turns it down.

On People magazine Tom and Katie are reportedly hitting the gym on a regular basis with Cruise working on the new project Lions for Lambs while they think Katie is possibly continuing her slimming and strick workout for Batman? Im with Caine being bummed out if Katie wont do the sequel.
