The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 5

Tom Hardy could have been great as Lex Luthor, but he's Bane... sigh... Oh well.

Well, since [BLACKOUT]he's wearing the mask (and it obscuring his voice) for 99,3% of the time[/BLACKOUT] that could be looked past, I guess.

I think since neither of them will be reprising those roles, they're both fair game (and great options) for Lex.

tom comes across more thuggish in everything i have seen him in

only inception was the exception

i think lex should have a sophistication and intelligence about him on top of looking bad ass

Lex could be portrayed in various ways and most of them have potential.

I would like if they went the Ledger/Joker way and gave the character a modern new feel while still maintaining the core elements. Just beef up the character and make him unpredictable and relevant. Make him live. Make him count.

and strong being sinestro play's less of a reason?
I'm not sure I follow. Are you saying I should also apply the Bane reason to Mark playing Sinestro? I wouldn't because one is the final villain to a very successful film trilogy while the other was one in a, for the lack of better term, underwhelming CBM effort.

Possibly, I haven't seen TDKR yet, so I wasn't entirely sure if we actually got to see Hardy without the mask and if we did if he was at all recognizable. I would like Tom Hardy for the role. He would be a good choice, IMO. I just wasn't sure if fans would like him for Lex after Bane.

I agree, but Tom Hardy can pretty much come across however he wants to. He comes across thuggish when he's playing thuggish characters. He came across very differently in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Marie Antoinette, The Virgin Queen and some of his other earlier roles (even that Star Trek movie he did).

Oh dang, I'm sorry about that. I'll edit my post.

Considering the Nolan-influence Hardy would sound like a likely choice.

I was a strong advocate of Hardy before he was cast as Bane, and I still think he would be great as a modern Lex, but I've seen the light.

Highly doubt Tom Hardy will end up as Lex especially as he's already played Bane. I know he had a masc on etc but I just don't see it happening.

I want Guy Pearce for Lex when it comes round to it.

I'd prefer we stay away from any of Nolan's actors, let us get someone else

I like Guy Pearce as an actor but I don't really see him as Lex. I'd be open to it were he to be cast, but I think there are better actors suited for the role.

Are there no American actors anyone can think of??? Not that I'm not a fan of the British, but c'mon...
A lot of people have mentioned Ryan Gossling or Bradley Cooper. I wouldn't complain if either of them were to play Lex.

I'm trying to visual either of them playing Lex....and eventually a bald Lex. hmm...I'd give the edge to Gossling. He played one of the creepiest dudes I have ever seen in Drive.

Earlier I was thinking of Armie Hammer from The Social Network. I know he's not as well known, but he plays an arrogrant jerk really well. I can see him being Lex. Though he's pretty tall himself. I think he's actually taller than Cavill, so that may not work.

I like both of them actually. Gossling WAS very creepy in Drive but I was EXTREMELY impressed with Cooper when I saw "Limitless". He was totally believable as someone who transforms from deadbeat writer to extremely successful businessman. I also find him to be very charismatic.

Again, if either of them were to play Lex I'd be happy.

Yeah, besides him being too tall...I don't think he looks like Lex at all.

I also saw Limitless. I do like Cooper, but I think his true talent lies in comedy. He's kind of like the new, blonder Vince Vaughn. The slick talker. I don't want another comedic Lex. I want a bad-ass, so he doesn't fit the role for me.

The talliness could be a factor, but you bring up a good point. What does Lex look like in your opinion? Are there any facial characteristics you think he should have?

To be honest, I've always visualized him as someone who is very charming on the outside, but you get the distinct impression that he's really really evil and self centered. For me this guy kind of fits the bill...

wasnt he gonna be superman in the failed JL project? that would be ironic....

He was heavily rumoured to be Superman in MoS, however. At one point I was convinced it was gonna be him, until Henry was cast, which came as a big shock.

While I don't want Cooper for Luthor, I don't think just because he started out in comedy means he should just stick to it. Robin Williams is a great example of someone who started out in comedy but can also hold his own in drama. I also don't think just because Cooper plays Lex that it doesn't mean it would be a comedic version. Bradley Cooper is the guy that was going to play Lucifer in Paradise Lost, after all.

I don't think that either, but I also don't think he has the developed range to play the Lex I would like at this time in his career. It took Robin a long time before he had the gravitas to play a serious dramatic role. Of course, this is my opinion based on the few things I have seen Cooper in. Again, I have not seen him in anything were he remotely resembles a bad ass.

I'm not familiar with Paradise Lost.
