Still having Internet issues. >.<; My ISP has no idea what to do, and they literally have jumped me all over their inner workings for the last few weeks.

The updates are:

Firefox: Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Most of the time if it slows up to nothing I can just restart it and it works fine.

AIM: Not working at all either on it's own, through iChat or Adium.

Youtube: I get this http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/twylight/Picture5.png

And the last straw >.<;;;
I went to Meebo tonight to get on AIM and I got this:

I'm at my wits end...Firefox has been uninstalled and re-installed. My computer is totally updated....and if it has to do with my internet connection I'm hitting a brick wall -literally-.

Those look more like browser rendering problems, not ISP problems. Since you're on a Mac, try those pages in Safari. Or, if you have Windows in BootCamp, boot into that and try those pages on Firefox (try AIM as well).

If they work on those, then it's likely your Firefox installation. You'll need a complete uninstall of Firefox (I don't know how to do that on Mac, but my guess is that some weird file somewhere has survived your previous unistalls), then reinstall. I'd recommend a trying different version of Firefox if you can find one. Even if it's an older one.

Agree with wiegabo; give Safari a try and see if you're still having issues. Also, have you run all Software updates, recently? Apple released some updates to Webkit that may help if you haven't installed them already.

Edit to add: Well, I thought I had all the webkits. I'm still running off of Tiger, would that make a difference in my connection?

___

Well....>.<; I've been using Safari, off and on. It seems to load the sites faster but Youtube isn't reachable on any webbrowser. I DLed Opera, (Which also, mysteriously started popping up as an option to open in when I right clicked stuff about a month ago)

Meebo seems to have corrected it's self *y

I am teh confused. :confused:

Thank GOD for the back button *strokes Firefox* Thank you for not failing me....I almost literally threw my poor Macbook against the wall in frustration.

okay...let's try this again...

Meebo seems to have corrected it's self *yay* one small step.

However Youtube doesn't like me at all.

Firefox:

Not going to get into AIM fully, though I did sift through some Adium stuff and I found this in an error report:
Error: Error resolving login.oscar.aol.com: No address associated with nodename.
I have no idea what it means and a quick google search only gives me stuff from a few years back.

I just tried logging in with iChat and straight-up AIM and got the same error.

And the Speedtest thingie...I don't know how helpful it is...I live an hour and outside of the city where the server is.

Download - 932 kb/s

Upload - 812 kb/s

Ping - 64 ms

Distance - ~50 mile

*pheh* I think that's everything.

I don't mean to be difficult and I'm sorry to bug, but I'm really getting frustrated and I figured I'd try here, again before going totally postal on my ISP.

I did just find something out (making calls as I type here ), my router pings me as on QWest and when I called a friend on, presumably, the same ISP, he was confused because he'd pinged it as bandwidth coming from somewhere else on his computer, and his torrent downloading is blocked, whereas I can DL torrents just fine. The ISP guy did point us to another tower, right before I started getting these issues, I don't know how much that would factor in on something like this though. Because Youtube/AIM work just fine on my Desktop Dell.

P.S. ^_^''' Thanks in advanced for any help you give....I'm...going crazy..........

:bh:

The speedtest test, was an outside chance...but that is not the problem.
You have a problem on your mac...I will leave this to the mac people

Even so, thank you Malice. :) It was actually a ton of fun to do. ^_^

This sounds suspiciously like a DNS problem more than anything else, twy. Could be something misconfigured from your side, or your ISP has changed their DNS settings. Have they walked through all your networking setup on your router AND your Mac with you to make sure all your entries are correct?

twy, do you have the Mac firewall (and other security features) active? They may be blocking/filtering some of the things your trying to do.

*sigh*

No, firstly they refused the first few times, -insisting- it was my router set up and to follow my router's set up directions. When I finally convinced them it was also my computer *hello, hard lined in, still not working* I had to tell them where my network screen was and what it looked like and where the fields were. o.O

They gave me this weird 2.4.4. something to put in my DNS Servers field which shut down my internet connection altogether.

I feel like I'm making excuses, >.<; but...it's >.<; I can call again...but no one there has any idea how do do anything with a Mac. I've been through the local ISP guy, he lives locally and takes care of instillation and set-up issues. He has no idea, and actually asked me if I'd be willing to help set up another lady's Mac to the internet. *twitch* So when I say 'they' it's the central tech support for my ISP.

I...haven't touched any of the default firewalls and security features since I got it. Probably not the best thing to do. I wouldn't know if that's it. Where exactly should I look for an issue with that if I have one? I mean, besides the obvious places. ;)

OH! Incidentally...ebay shows up the same as Youtube, (just discovered this)
:) No graphics but the words on a straight white background.

First twy, you're not alone with your iChat/Aim problems. I've found a couple of forums with people having them within the past month. From most everything I've found in forums over the last couple of years, the oscar.aol problem is on AOL's side, not with your computer specifically.

What port is iChat and AIM trying to use? If it's 5190, try changing it to 443:
Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
Set the port to 443.
Untick SSL
Log back in again.

^_^ Thanks so much Wieg! ^_^ I was only able to find information from around mid 07ish and was frustrated. I'll see if it works. I'd say it's working now but when I clicked up iChat, AIM *miraculously* popped up and connected right away. >.<;

But I did all the changes and I hope it sticks ^_^'

I admit that I still don't know how to operate my MacBook laptop after having it for several months. For instance, I'd like to find the folder where I installed a program (WOW), so I can modify it, but I can't locate its whereabouts. I also wonder if there is a way to unzip files, and extract its content. Lastly, does everything I d/l I have to make sure it's Mac compatible first?

I dont think this is DNS, as the sites themselves would not show up most likely.

I would imagine there is an issue in the rendering of the sites.

have you installed Opera to see if it has the same problem?

Latest update:

Wieg, AIM isn't working anymore. I changed the port and everything :/ I'm getting the same message. Is it on their side? My PC AIM works just fine.

OK its an OS issue...or an overall network configuration issue.
Before I get to a thought, has anyone else brought their PC there to see if it works ok?

Now, here is an interesting test. Assuming you are on DSL or cable..
You have the DNS server of the ISP

Try registering an account at OpenDNS and test your system by using it and see if it happens using that.

From everything I was reading, it's a problem on the AOL side. The only thing that could likely be causing a problem on your side is if the 5190 port (and another port number that I'll have to find again) are being blocked by your mac's, or your router's, firewall. Now, if your PC is running AIM fine wirelessly (assuming it uses the same ports on the pc), then it's probably a mac setting.

*merf*

Internet ate my other post.

Malice - I have a Dell Desktop that is wirelessly connected to the same network. It runs Windows XP Pro :) I've also had friends come over with their Windows XP Home/Vista/2000 and connect and run things just fine.

Also I did the DNS thingie and ran through what it told me to do. O.O and it told me at the end of configuring and everything.

"Oops, you aren't using OpenDNS yet. Go back to Step 1 to set up OpenDNS."

-.< So I guess I have to sign up for an account >.<;;

Ok, on your mac, make sure ports 5190 and 5298 are open. If that doesn't work, make sure those ports are open in your router firewall too (if that's on). You may have to change iChat back from 493 to one of these ports.

Yeah o.o;
No idea how to open and close ports Wieg :waa:

Also..so I used the OpenDNS, o.O didn't create an account though. :/ I'm a huge fan of being able to reverse things...so.....how do I *stop* using it? Because I'm going to have my family on my back when they type in a single word into the address bar and it pops up with OpenDNS.

P.S. Youtube WORKS! Ebay..not so much >.<;

AIM, however, is still not working >.<;

Hey all, I got a question about making automatic actions to a whole bunch of picture files. I don't know if this has anything to do with AppleScript or Automator, or whatever, I just know absolutely zilch about it.

Anyway, basically I just downloaded this old comic. And because of the old scan, the black levels and color are just WAY off. So for the time being, I've just "corrected" the covers and such so it looks much cleaner and closer to what the original looked like. The inside pages are pretty much the same way, but I'm not about to manually alter literally thousands of pages.

But, I've found out that in Photoshop, using the "auto level" and "auto color" functions are satisfactory to what I want, and is exponentially quicker.

What I want to know is, is it possible to set up some sort of automatic function and apply it to a folder with the picture files? So that it basically does this:

Open in PS > Auto Level > Auto Color > Save > Close ---- repeat

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
