Anyone know of any cool ipod touch apps?

As weig said, any specific kinds or functions? But here are some cool one. Most of the paid for apps if not all there is a trial version for free. So if you don't like it you don't have to pay. Also with that said you often can get most apps on sale for .99 cents that cost up to $3.99 or so. Beyond that it is rare that an app will go on sale.

Eliminate Pro Free FPS
MiniGore Think Smashtv, you can use your own music while playing .99 cents

Admit One Rotten Tomatoes based movie times

I've heard about ClamAV.

But I doubt it's a virus. Mac doesn't really have any.

You and I know that isn't entirely true. They exist but are just so rare that one doesn't really need to worry about them.

Vista is far inferior to XP in most ways. And I refuse to upgrade to it. Windows 7 looks promising (the best of XP and Vista without the crap), so I'll probably be upgrading to that once Microsoft finally cuts XP support.

If I could afford to buy one, I'd get a Mac Pro and bootcamp 64-bit Windows 7 for when I need it. Although, I'd probably still use Windows most of the time for various reasons, having that slick Apple hardware, and being able to switch back to OS X whenever I need, would be so nice.

BAH! 27" iMac i7 core :D

My bet is that they require a warranty before repairs and say that without a warranty, they can't do anything about it.

Not at all. Almost everything as the Genius Bar in an Apple Store is free. Short of checking the machine to actually do repairs (replace or fix something) a Mac Genius shouldn't charge for just about anything he or she does. Of course there is a limit to the scope of support at the bar, it is not designed to replace an optical drive you bought right there.

But they should most certainly take a look at and diagnose if they can and even let you know if you're still in warranty or if it is an issue that might be covered even without one. They also have amazing flat rate fees if you are out of warranty for say a failed logic board or bad lcd (not due to physical damage).

This is true....almost.

Wiedeabo is correct. Apple warranty or the extended Apple Care Warranty, does not cover physical damage for almost everything. There are a few minor exceptions.

Previous generation white macbooks 06-mid 09 all have a common defect in their top cases and bezels. If there is small cracking at the palm rests on the right or left sides on the very bottom edge they will replace it for free even if you are out of warranty. But only up to three years from the original purchase date (most stores are cool about it though and will do it even if you are beyond the three year mark).

Also the bezel (frame around the display) cracks in a similar corresponding spot along the top edge usually where the little nubs are to keep the display slightly separated from the top case. Same deal with it being covered as your top case.

iPhones they will cover your silent/ringer button falling off (and sometimes the volume buttons). But they have to swap the whole phone so there can't be any other damage at all.

Other than that sending anything into Apple Care will certainly get shot down. If you can take it into an Apple Store give it a shot, depending on the type of damage and which genius/technician you are dealing with you might get lucky. If you have multiple stores in your area, then definitely try as many as you can.

That is EXACTLY what happened. I will definitely take it in when I'm on school break in February.

Haha, I wish I read that yesterday. I was just at the Apple Store. I've had these stupid cracks for a year now. :(

Yeah for both of you they should take care of it for free even if you are beyond the warranty period and don't have apple care. There should be no issue replacing this (assuming everything else is up to par). If there is a problem as to speak with the Lead then the Manager (unless the problem voids the warranty because you spilled coffee on it or something). GL

Here is what it should look like or worse.

On another note, does anyone want to buy a used (May 09 purchase date) previous gen MacBook?

Model is Early 09 2.0 GHZ Duo Core Processor Retail new $999

iLife 09 comes installed and I do have iWork 09 $79 item
Can include Aperture 2 $199 item

Can also include lots of music, movies and MS Office 08 for the mac if you like.

I wish I had a camera, because you would swear you were looking at the same damage. I am so happy I can get this fixed, I was pretty upset because I just spent all this money on my mac and it's my first one!

Yeah that issue is extremely common for those models unfortunately. And in all honesty there is a good chance (better than 50%) that given enough time it will come back. But Apple is taking care of this for free so there shouldn't be a problem. Plus the repair shouldn't take very long, an hour tops (as long as they have the part in stock and aren't super busy, not sure how busy your store gets) and will be done with you having little to no down time for your Mac.

URGH, I just did the dumbest thing ever.

I was sitting studying and reached for my water bottle and accidentally knocked it over ALL OVER MY MACBOOK. It stayed on, but I turned it off. Cleaned all the water off the keys. Seemed pretty dry. Now here is where I get dumb. Instead of looking on my PC to see what to do in this situation, I turn the Mac back on . It immediately makes more crackling noises. So I furiously start googling what to do and realize I should have left it off, unplugged it, taken the battery out and flipped the thing upside down. So I turn it off (the computer itself turned on fine, and was working), and do all the following. There was about a tablespoon of water in the battery area :(. I dried that up with some paper towel. It's currently flipped upside down with a lamp near it.

What are the chances of recovery guys? How long do you think I should leave before I try turning it on again?

Water is hard to tell, it can do nothing, or kill your machine instantly and anything you can think of in between. Use a blow dryer ASAP. Keep it off for at least two days if not three.

Chances of it working just fine and never having issues in the future? 5% or less.

FYI - Apple charges $755 + tax to repair it to it's full operation back under warranty status. No if's ands or buts. And yes, they will find the liquid damage, most likely. Very rarely will they not see it and repair your machine. But it does sometimes happen.

Where should I blow dry it? On the keyboard or the battery area?

It only hit the board...didn't really hit the screen or any of the ports as far as I can tell.

Anywhere you spilled it or see it, but generally everywhere. Once liquid gets inside, it goes anywhere it can find room to move. So inside, pretty much everywhere.

Just ran into this issue again. But fixed it, and wanted to give anyone a head's up in case it happens to them.

There's a known Apple issue with iPhones and Touches (it also happens to devices not jailbroken, so it's definitely an Apple issue).

Basically, when you start the iPod app to listen to music/watch a vid, the app can't find any files and displays a No Content screen. But if you check with iTunes, you'll see all your files on your device.

An easy workaround is to add/remove a file from your device and force a re-sync. An even easier workaround was to Get Info in a file and add a space to the lyrics of one of the songs. This forced a brief re-sync and got my phone to see the files again. But since I was at a work computer, and couldn't add or change files, I found that just doing a Get Info on a file was enough to cause a sync.

I have Safari 4.0.4 and i heard that 'poof' sound like when you drag off one of the bookmarks you don't want, but now my browser is gone. There's no place i can type in website addresses; how do i get it back?

You dragged Safari off your dock?

Just open the Applications folder and drag it back onto your dock.

Yup  Just to add a little more detail. Think of your dock as a short cut for the application. The actual program itself, as Wieg stated, is in your applications folder. Anything removed from the dock is just removing the short cut.

Also, a couple of rumors about next week's Apple event:

iPhone OS 4.0 for the 3G devices. It'll have a tweaked user interface and background application support.

The iPhone for Verizon.

The Apple tablet, now supposedly called the iPad.

Not off the dock. I dragged the browser itself off of Safari by mistake and it disappeared (didn't even think that could be done), but i managed to get it back by going to 'View' > 'Customize Toolbar'.
:yay:

:yay:

You can also just do a: View > Hide/Show tool bar.

Or at least you should be able to.

1. 90% chance of it happening

2. 55% chance of a Verizon iPhone announcement, no 65%

3. I say 65% also for a tablet.

4. I also wouldn't be surprised if they announce that LaLa the streaming music site they bought is announced to work with your iDisk/MobileMe

40% of all three/four being announced. imho
