EA The Official Mass Effect Thread - Part 2

I purchased the Play Arts Kai figures of Shepard, Ashley and I always wanted to get Garrus but never did because that was my squad. If I knew it'd be going for $300, I would have picked it up.

Pathetic. Can’t believe you don’t even get a game. It’s not an “edition” if there’s no game. Just random collector’s stuff.

Its mind boggling especially they have done this in the past.

But then, its EA, so they are only living up to their reputation.

is it really an EA thing? because I really think this is Bioware's doing. They're 2 for 2 for this collector's edition, but when was the last time before this that a game published by EA had a collector's edition of a game where the game was not included?

Battlefield 1.

EA might not originate every bloodsucking idea but they are sure to jump on board with any that they don't create themselves. :D :csad:

yeah well they suck for doing this and the saddest part is that people will still buy it. this makes me not even want to support Bioware and just buy the legendary edition used on eBay or something

The annoying thing is that I would be up for collector’s editions of my favourite outfits games if:

a) they included the damn game and a very nice case/steelbook/exclusive art etc

b) it was good value in that the statues or props included would be worth more separately than the bundled price.

But of course instead by buying these things together you are instead overpaying for everything and missing out on basic features.

exactly. with your a) comment it's basically like buying a brand new car, except you don't get the keys. you have to pay another 40% of what you already paid just for the keys. like, does that make sense????

as for the b) comment, because I am a sucker for collector's editions of games I would probably be prepared to have gotten it for this game if it was under $100 and of course the disc was included. it's one thing for the collector's edition to be overpriced, but with not including the actual product, one could even argue that it's borderline false advertising to, like you said, even call it a collector's edition of the game since the game is not part of the product. it's just a collector's item. in order for it to be an edition of the game, the game has to be the core product (and it isn't even the product at all)

There's 1 more collection edition from EA without a game:

Mirrors Edge Catalyst Collector's Edition

Yeah, it’s so dumb. Just call it memorabilia. This is not an edition of the game. It’s an associated product. If I want to watch Star Wars and the cinema guy responds by giving me a model light sa ber I’ll say thanks, but can I still see the bloody film please?! :D

I played Andromeda and I am still playing. I ignored the reviews for this as I haven't played the previous Mass Effect games. However, I didn't have fun playing this. I keep waiting for it to be good but eh, I am already halfway done in the main story. It felt like I am always going from point a to point b. The game feels tiring to me. The characters are flat. I don't like how they designed the user interface and it looks crowded with so many texts and sections. It was also kinda intimidating because I felt like just looking at the menu, skill tree, inventory, journals - there are so many things, its information overload. The game felt really bloated especially when doing side quests and free roaming.

I think I could have put up to all of this if the graphics looked better as it would make the experience better for me, at least visually. There are scenes that looked good. The interior of the space ship, the view of the universe and the Initiative's hq looked good. But when I got to the other planets, I thought they could have looked so much better. Some npcs looked unpolished. This didn't look like a 2017 game imo if I have to compare this to big games that come out in 2014 to 2017. It kinda reminded me of another EA space game, Star Wars Fallen Order as certain areas of the game could have looked better for a game that came out in 2019. However the graphics of Andromeda looked way more jarring. I thought the game needed more budget and polishing.

The gameplay is so so. For me, what made the game tiring for me is the side quests. At first, I tried to mostly main missions but I ended up doing side quests to see the other parts of the locations and to level up. There are days that I just spent 1 to 2 hours, just talking to fifty npcs then a lot of the side quests ended up "hold on". I have to progress more into the game just to complete a side quest. A lot of the side quests are unrewarding time wasters. It is like its better to save the side quests after the main story so I wouldn't hit a road block. But I don't want to do like hundreds of side quests after the main story is over. Most of the npcs are stoic. The side quests are just not engaging.

Then when you're in the vehicle and you have to explore the other parts of the planets - the planets are mostly empty. They spreaded out mission objectives in the big empty space and I didn't have fun checking every corner of those planets. I also hate that the main playable character can't grab into rocks and climb mountains.

The things I liked. I like customizing my character and I like that I have two people joining me in the battle.

I feel like if I have to rank like AAA games I've played from major game publishers from the last 5 years, this would be at the bottom of the list joining the ranks of Death Stranding and Avengers. I just find the game quite dull and overstuffed.

So some news that one of the changes in ME2 is the addition of more ammo drops. So that's cool. They said that ammo was always scarce especially when using a sniper rifle. Which is exactly what I always thought

ME2 is definitely one of my favourite games of that gen.

my favorite game of all time! hell it practically changed my life in gaming
Nice. Yeah, such an amazing experience. I really hope somehow Mass Effect gets back to those heights one day.

I finished Andromeda today with 96% completion and level 59 in 83 hours. I left nine side quests as there's no marker to their whereabouts. I didn't eXpect this to be freaking long. I don't mind long games as long as they're fun but like I said before, I always get tired when playing this. The never ending back and forth to different planets, the load times, the talking scenes that aren't interesting to hear. Some side quests take forever to complete and there's not even a special cutscene or reward when you completed it. For examples, I scanned those plants/minerals/enemies from 3 to 5 planets but when I completed them, the npc that gave me those quest only said 1 line....

The six planets (with fast travel points) are mostly empty spaces. I didn't bother mining as the environment is just empty. What I also dislike is you are hopping to planets, the space ship and two main hubs yet the design of the things around you - like the containers, outposts, doors, remnants, the tech are mostly the same. Its like all the species in these different locations in the Andromeda galaXy have the same taste in design. Aside from the climate, trees and atmosphere of those locations, they could have differentiated those planets a lot more. Some planets even share the same animals. I've read this was supposed to introduce ten alien species instead of just two but cut them due to budget restrictions so maybe thats a factor.

I did like the personal moments with the crew in the end like movie night and the 1 on 1 talks. I played this for 3 weeks so in a way, I was kinda attached with the crew. I just wish the gameplay was more engaging. The story over all was also quite bland that also affected the eXperience. I'm going to wait for the Legendary Edition of the trilogy until its $25 cheap. I'm curious to see if the aliens in those games have a better story.
