Harmon Walsh would be awesome!

He's got a similar look to Matthew Fox, which is okay for Supes and not so much for Clark. Plus, I don't think he has the gentleness that I've seen in Fox, and that is essential in Superman (even if he unleashes his not so gentle side too).

But for the sake of making sure he gets a mention (and yes, by now I am aware he's too short, here's Matt Bomer, my personal Superman fantasy:

And the Japanese Car advert in which he is Superman!

Agreed. Despite Manganiello having the build and height, his acting is really not up to snuff from what I'd expect from Superman. Hamm is, at least, a damn good actor.

Yeah. Joe M. just doesn't have the chops, charisma and screen presence to be Supes at this time.

Hamm and Egger at least has some charisma, versatility, and screen presence.

To me, Harmon Walsh looks like a mix of Routh and Bale:

The dude from Glee is more of a Barry Allen/The Flash to me.

Can totally see that!

God I love Christian Bale as Batman. There are some casting choices that just make you really grateful they didn't pick anybody else, no matter who was on the table.

But that's the thing, sometimes it's obviously right, and sometimes it's not until you've seen the whole movie that you go 'okay, I was wrong, that was perfect and I wouldn't have it any other way' :)

not diggin' Harmon....he KINDA looks like Superman, but he really just looks weird and lacks power in his voice. on top of that, if the clip from vimeo shows the extent of Harmon's acting abilities then definitely "no thanks".

as for Manganiello, his look is okay, but personally i just can't past his nose. it makes him look more menacing than anything. from what i've seen, his acting is "so-so" but he certainly has the physique. i'm on the fence with him....because unfortunately, his nose is a big problem for me.

Matt Bomer has the look, but i can't comment on his acting. unfortunately, he's just too short. whoever plays Superman should be 6'0 at the VERY LEAST!

which brings me to Jon Hamm, who i feel is simply too old to play Superman. despite my desire for them to focus on this movie, instead of worrying about the possibility of sequels, i also want it to be successful enough to earn a sequel or even a threequel. in the event that comes to fruition then he'll be around 45 in the potential sequel and approaching 50 if a third movie is made....and that's just wrong. i like Hamm though, which why i think he'd make a fantastic Jor-El!

that being said, i don't think it's fair that we can't talk about Cavill, Routh, or even dare i say Welling. *shudders* this is the Superman casting thread and as long as Cavill, Routh, or Welling fans aren't trying to hijack the thread in a trolling manner then i don't see why we can't talk about those 3 most mentioned choices.

with that out of the way, i wouldn't want to see Welling simply because i don't think he neither acts nor looks like Superman. Routh already had his chance, and i don't think he has the acting gravitas to handle an film with the depth that Christopher Nolan likes to put into his films. so i honestly think that Cavill is the most qualified out of everyone mentioned. great look, good height, good voice, nice acting chops, and he now has the physique. he's also the perfect age to carry out 3 or more Superman films. i used to hate the thought of Cavill playing the Man of Steel, but i've warmed up to him quite a bit and i now want him, over everyone else, to get the job.

Yeah, that clip was pretty unimpressive. Granted, it's very short and he may actually be talented, but he doesn't stand out to me.

I have an idea for a Superman trilogy and these would be the major players involved.

Superman/Clark Kent- ???
Lex Luthor- Patrick Wilson
Lois Lane- Anne Hathaway
Lana Lang- Mila Kunis
Jonathan Kent- Bruce Greenwood
Martha Kent- ???
John Corbin/Metallo- Karl Urban
Perry White- Dustin Hoffman
Jimmy- Elijah Wood
Emil Hamilton- Jeff Goldblum
Jor-El- ???
Brainiac- Zachary Quinto
General Zod- Ralph Fiennes
Darkseid- ???
Doomsday- CGI

Still up in the air with Clark, Jor-El, Martha and Darkseid, although I have a few ideas.

OK, here we go again

I really see Superman in Manganiello

He has Gravitas. and the role demands it. He has a great screen presence, and its imposing without being too intimidating, and he seems to be a great guy (Maybe I'm silly but I would hate to see that the actor playing Superman has a "hollywood" life, you know, the kind that keeps him in the spot light in PerezHilton or TMZ), and can carry the role, not just on the screen but in his celebrity status, just like Reeve did or Routh right now.

And one really good thing about him its that he looks nothing like Reeve (I liked Reeve's Superman, but it seems that now every time you look for a new superman the goal its to finds someone who resemble him), and can give even just from his looks a new take on the character. he has a more Roughed look, not like a thug, but more like a commanding and somehow intimidating look, the one that makes you think; "I don't wanna mess with this guy". but he also has a "protector" quality about him, and a good smile, so even if he its intimidating, he won't scare kids away.

And phisically he had all the characteritics the role needs; his build is that of a farm boy, perfect for the role, Superman has to be big, Joe has a great body, without looking like a steroid abuser body builder, but rather like a person that takes good care of himself, and that can put a damn good fight, could actually believe the audience he can lift a building and intimidate criminals.

Plus, he is a fan of the character, and wants the role, one of the things I liked about Routh was the passion he had with the character, I get the same feeling with Joe, for him, it wouldn't be just another role.

Some people are leaning towards Hamm, I think he look more like Bruce Wayne (Maybe Jor-El), or even Luthor, but I don see superman (unless it is a 50's period piece based on G. Reeves Superman)

My top picks for Superman are:

Henry Cavill (6'1")

Rick Malambri (6'2")

Joe Manganiello (6'5")

Brandon Routh (6'3")

Harmon Walsh (6'2.5.)

Tom Welling (6'3")

I like Joe Manganiello for Superman, and I agree with you about Hamm.

Out of everyone on the list, Joe Mnganiello would be my favorite.

John Hamm looks too old, and is far away from the shape he would need to be in for the role, and at 39 this would not happen over night, nor make him look 10 years younger in the face. He is only 39, but looks far older.

The others on the list all look like wide doe eyed pretty boys.

I think part of the issue is there are different ways people think of superman.

It seems here a lot of folks are very attatched to the baby faced wide eyed pretty boy idea of him.

Then there are some that see him like their aging dad.

Well, I see him masculine and powerful, he can be friendly and ussually is, sometimes even a bit cocky, but there is a side of him that can look fully in charge, dominant, alpha. When facing down a villain, yes imposing. - Joe M seems the closest to how I envision the character, out of the current list.

I think it is sufficient to say you believe in the casting of an unknown then? I know Routh and Welling fall under a different category as well.

Hey...yo...yo...yo....Joe M. can't ACT!

Too one dimensional and he doesn't have the "IT" factor.

The Nolans will want someone who has range, versatility and at least ACT!

I cannot get past Joe Manganiello's crooked-broken looking nose.

Thank you... There was a time when I saw Superman as a fatherly figure... but now, as grow older, it would be delusional to see superman who look a lot older than me

Its funny, I know Joe isn't the greatest actor (I'm not saying he is bad, he simply hasn't had any "big" role with a good director, so I can't really judge), but what I have seen of him, I had liked (he had done good in the roles he had).

What I really like about him its the "IT" factor, or as I call it "gravitas", the man has a great screen presence, and show great charisma as well

What I can't get past is Manganiello's extremely meh acting.

I have to be honest, to coin a phrase...

I believe in Jon Hamm.

I've watched him on Mad Men since it's first episode and I think he could do it and be great at it.

I also believe in John Slattery as Perry White- but that's a whole different thread.

well with the new thread i thought id repost my suggestion:

Ryan Mcpartlin:

a big mcpart of me hopes McPartlin gets the role. he's visually PERFECT for Superman and even though he's always playing goofy roles, at least he's not a DULL actor (ala Routh). it's easier to tone down overacting than it is to amp up dull acting.
