The Official 'Thor Rate & Review' thread - Part 3

I thought Ebert's review was hilarious. He panned Thor...this from the guy who gave Hitman 2 3 stars. He is clearly senile, or he rates movies based on his mood when he woke up.

They absolutely could have done without the pointless romantic subplot for a character I didn't care about and who had no connexion whatsoever to Thor (I know Thor has a human girlfriend, but I mean that I didn't see any tension or cause or need for the romance subplot in this movie. I wish women didn't watch movies (or Hollywood didn't ****e their products out to their perceived demographic) so I didn't have to put up with this crap in every superhero movie, but oh well.

What does women watching movies have to do with anything?

I mean. Maybe they include all those uninteresting bland romnantic plots in superhero movies to appeal to the female audience but it's not like they actually like such poor plots.

I think your second appreciation on the matter is more accurate: "or Hollywood didn't ****e their products out to their perceived demographic." I agree with that.

But they're not entirely wrong. Myself and some others aside, most of the women I know watch terrible sappy nonsense and have zero interest in a movie about two buff guys punching each other in the face and won't see it unless it's got some romantic subplot. There is a non-aribtrary reason that Kawaii anime is often marketed at girls and Berzerk is not.

you know the wrong women, then. Most women I know ae either into David Lynch movies, action movies and/or genre stuff. My gf for example is a huge fan of Steven Seagal movies and there is nothing more "two buff guys punching each other in the face" than Steven Seagal movies!

^ That's definitely not the average girl though

and kudos for being so lucky!

edit: I gotta get to Austria for these women!

Right. And Steven Seagal movies are awesome.

Loki is buff, he's super-buff, he's just not huge. He's got a body like Bruce Lee, who is most definitely buff.

Hiddleston wasn't buff in his role as Loki, he was required to be "lean and hungry" as they once said in an interview.

Obviously, Loki was upset because Odin kept the secret from him, and because he discovered his true origin by himself naturally he was very pissed off. It doesn't explain in great details but in the comics Loki always feel inferior to Thor, because Asgard has a warrior culture, and Loki's talent lies in magic and trickery. Loki didn't feel Odin loves him as much as Thor because Thor was being named the heir to the throne, and not him. In the end, Loki had said he wanted to prove himself worthy to the all-father Odin. That's why he decided to destroy the realm that frost giants inhabited.

First of all, Jane was the first mortal woman he ever contacted with, and let's face it Jane/Natalie Portman is a very attractive woman. He also met her during several personal crisis that he faced in his lifetime, from being exiled from Asgard, to possessing a mortal & fragile body, to the revelation that he caused his father's death and his own mother didn't want him (Loki's lies). Basically, during life-or-death situations and life-altering events, the person who offered you alot of support will have an effect on you. However, you are wrong to say that Thor is in love with Jane; he didn't initialize the kiss, but she did. I think Thor is very fascinated by her and wanted to see more of her, and perhaps it will develop into a romantic relationship in the sequel. But Thor never once said he's in love with Jane, merely wanted to see her again.

Btw, I do agree with being so close to Sif should've had an effect on him as well, but who knows if they haven't been "friends in benefit" since they are essentially immortals?

Like I said, even though he didn't spend an eternity on Earth, he went through very dramatic & life-altering events that changed his personality fundamentally. Heck, he was killed, and I don't care if you were a god or not, it's going to have a lasting effect. In the end, he learned that it is better to be more compassionate toward others, and killing frost giants suddenly lost its appeal to him. Besides, he didn't really want to just kill the frost giants in the first place, but to pay a retribution to them after they broke the truce & sneaked into Asgard to steal their artifact.

Your explenations make sense but the movie didn't show us any of this, or should i say not enough. It felt rushed. If the movie had been longer, they could have developed Loki, Thor and Jane's relationship and Thor's change of heart about the frostgiants better. Then it would have been much more believable.

I don't know about you two, but most women I know just want to watch a movie they think looks good. Simple as that.

Pretty much. Last movie I went to with a woman was that latest Predator flick...you know, that romantic chick flick. :hehe:

Saw Thor again yesterday and It was just as awesome as the first time , better even. 9/10 !!!!!:yay::yay: cant wait for the dvd.

I just would like to add to that as a woman I love action and superhero films, better than some sappy love story. Although I do watch them from time to time , but some of my favroite movies are action a little romance in there too is nice. I am a bit of a tomboy I know lol

I love the die hard movies... great stuff. :yay:

The first two were obvious enough (especially Loki), but I agree with the change of heart with the Frost Giants.

I don't get all the "Thor was rushed" comments just like I never felt that Iron Man 2 was a "commericial for the Avengers", because I didn't get that feel from either of them.

thor wasnt rushed and iron man 2 wasnt an avengers commercial. it was a great film.

The same B&R wasn't actually a toy commercial. It's just hyperbole.

Of course, but it didn't feel like it had too many Avengers ties to me, it just seems like another thing for people to ***** about.

WellI saw IM2 once and I don't think I'll ever see it again. But I remember the plot being so convulted that Avengers references, such as the Nick Fury sudden apparition, was the last thing the movie needed. Not that it was its only problem.

Lol, please list all the Avengers references in that movie. I still haven't had one person to come out and list them.

Can only think of 2 direct references: Stark saying about not wanting to be in Fury's 'Boy Band' and obviously the end exchange with Fury.

Indirect references would be the inclusion of Black Widow, Fury turning up at all, Coulson's picking up Cap's shield, and the post credits Thor scene.

Not only did I say that I saw IM2 once and I don't think I'll ever see it again but I also mentioned the Nick Fury sudden apparition. Care to read before posting?

This really isn't that many references at all, like I said earlier, people just wanna to find something to b**** about.

They're not many. They're enough to ruin part of the fun. You don't need many bugs to ruin the punch. Plus, as I said, it was't like it was its only problem.

All in all, I liked the movie, but it could have been about a half hour longer. Loki's switch from manipulative ******* to homicidal ******* was just a little bit too quick, as was the romantic subplot. Also, I would have prefered if they hadn't tried so hard with the "but it's SCIENCE" angle. A more subtle blending of sci-fi and fantasy would have been nice, but that's just a personal preference, not a real criticism.
