The Dark Knight The Oscar Push!

Most predictable Oscars in history probably....a friend of mine was angry at me for ruining every award(with saying the winner) before the nominations...the only ''surprise'' was Departures for foreign movie.

Anyways i'm so happy for TDK,2 awards i woudnt have been mad at another one or two but still i'm satisfied...and it's the only movie that spoiled Slumdog's sweep :oldrazz::woot:

Congrats to Heath's family once again.

Sean Penn only won because he played a gay rights activist in the year of gay rights.

The Academy is a worthless barometer of quality in films, as almost every choice is either politically or "does this make us cool with our friends???" driven.

Never noticed it before but Heath really looked like his old man.

:whatever:

To the guys disappointed that Pfister didnt win...it was impossible for any movie to beat Slumdog in any category,i'm really surprised TDK took the only award from it.

I mean,look at Wall-E...only one award,The Wrestler no awards,Doubt no awards,Frost/Nixon no awards...TDK has two and in a sweeping year that's awesome!

Cinematography was about as deserved by The Dark Knight as any award has ever been for a movie...but it didnt get it because the academy..I'll be the one to say it..hates The dark Knight for better than it "should have been".

yes, the academy hates the dark knight. it especially hated its cinematography. which was made obvious when it was nominated for best cinematography. i mean, it hated it so much, that out of the hundreds of movies released this year, it was one of five films singled out and recognized for its exceptional cinematography. such hatred. such pure hatred. it sears my soul.

Regardless of what we think of the awards . . .

The playing field has changed. Think about it guys. A movie based on a comic book won an academy award for an acting performance. That has NEVER happened before in the history . . . of history.

We can't settle for mediocrity in these movies anymore. They have to be top notch. These aren't just frivolous toy movies. They are important movies. They are our present day mythology.

This pretty much sums up my reaction to Heath winning tonight

I'm still a little bitter about no nomination for best picture, but I'm glad SM won. Plus we got the great shout out in the opening song :D

On another note, can they get anyone aside from Beyonce to sing at these awards :(?

Visual effect to Button... epic fail. I think it's obvious a tentpole film will never win that award.

tentpole in the fall.... Button was suppose to win visuals...but i am shock dog didn't get nominated for it too.... seeing how it's so cinematically stunning and all....

I'm mad as hell Wally Pfister didn't win. I agree with bane; apparently he has to go shoot on Mars with an IMAX camera to get his proper respect.

Happy as can be for Heath Ledger though...

its far more likely than the reason you suggested.

I disagree. Havent you ever heard that if you want to win an Oscar, play a ******ed person?? Thats because The Academy respecs that. It does not matter how good your performance is in a movie aboout wrestling...its wrestling...and the academy "knows" that wrestling is not worthwhile entertainment. It is beneath them. Therefore, Rourke stood no chance...no matter how good the film or how good his perf'ormance.

Year after year, the Oscars can be easily predicted based on who's "turn" it is to win and which liberal cause was celebrated.

I was surprised that Wally Pfister didn't win either. Slumdog Millionaire? I don't see what was so special about it.

because so many people who have played ******s have won academy awards?

yeah, it would have been cool and deserving if rourke won. but penn was just as deserving. they both turned in phenomenal performances. only one could win. it was sean penn. and he won it because he's an incredible actor who did an incredible job in the role he won for.

Sarcasm.. look it up

sarcasm...work on it.

yea rourke got robbed BIG TIME
I was disappointed that we didn't get an awesome Rourke acceptance speech, that's what. :funny:

Indeed. I was FULLY prepared for a Slumdog sweep, and for TDK to take one away in sound was a surprise. :oldrazz:

...even though it really should have gone to Wall-E. But whatever. We've gone through this already. :funny:

The CGI poop on that kid was phenomenal. :hehe:

Button really was supposed to win Best VFX, guys. The aging work that they did on Brad Pitt was astonishing. I mean, it isn't like last year, when Golden Compass won over Pirates. THAT was a down-and-out farce.

People really thought Sean Penn's recent win for Mystic River would have given Mickey the win tonight. But it's not really an upset - Sean DID win the SAG.

I think the Best Actor race was really close. I also have the feeling that TDK won Best Sound Editing by a hair over Slumdog, considering Slumdog took Sound Mixing.

I missed the sucktastic (according to Nikki Finke) opening number, but the musical production with Beyonce and Hugh was cool...until the HSM kids showed up! Aaaaagh.

And WHHYYYYY did they seat Edward Cullen from Twilight behind Mickey Rourke? He doesn't need the effin' camera time! Utter fail.

I'm surprised that Chris Nolan showed up after all, though. :funny:

One day Pfister & Nolan will be recognized.. one day

TDK will own the MTV movie awards :D
