The Positive Reaction Thread

I prefer the face plate but, I also like the blue hood. I wouldn't have a problem with the hood being in the sequel as long as Cobra Commader uses it in non battle situations. If I'm not mistaken he never used the hood on the battlefield in the cartoon.

RT can go to hell, you'll have a bunch of angry fanboys flooding it come this weekend....the guys who sit in the theater and are all "Worst. Movie. Ever." before the previews even start

WTF, Baroness' ass was nowhere near as round as her DIC cartoon counterpart! This movie fails.

For some reason, if we see CC with the fabric mask, I can just hear Conan O'Brian's voice under it.

I'll take the hood over the metal mask any day of the week. It looks like something worn by a medieval executioner, or a religious zealot. Like Figs said, the metal mask makes him look like a robot, and anyway, his identity and background have already been thoroughly revealed in the first movie. There's no point in presenting him as a total mystery, because we already know who he is and what he looks like.

91% on RT so far.
:wow: WTF

Oh, RoC only has 11 reviews so far.

I just checked...When TF ROTF was at 11 reviews it had 6 Fresh and 5 Rotten.

What's the percentage there?

What about a blue helmet with hoodlike elements?

Ok, here is more of a fair comparison to RoC vs ROTF on Rotten Tomatoes:

TF: ROTF
Andrew L. Urban: Did not review ROTF

Chris Tilly: Gave ROTF a Rotten review

Mark Adams: Gave ROTF a Fresh review

Julian Roman: Gave ROTF a Rotten review

Drew McWeeny: Gave ROTF a Rotten review

Paul Fischer: Did not review ROTF

Todd Gilchrist: Gave ROTF a Fresh review

Jimmy O: Did not review ROTF

Devin Faraci Gave ROTF a Rotten review

Wilson Morales: Gave ROTF a Rotten review

Emanuel Levy: Gave ROTF a Rotten review

----------------

GI Joe: RoC

Chris Tilly: Gave RoC a Fresh review

Mark Adams: Gave RoC a Fresh review

Julian Roman: Gave RoC a Fresh review

Drew McWeeny: Gave RoC a Fresh review

So there you go. :cwink:

its a cloth mask, what is really threatening about that?? gimme a pillowcase and Ill make you one... the reason i like the helmet and faceplate is because it puts across that whole "unseen enemy" vibe

You missed the point of my post. With the cloth mask it's all about the eyes. Without that, having them covered by a silver mirror mask just isn't threatening since you can't even see his eyes...which can convey more emotion than spoken words.

I'll say again though that I don't hate the metal mask I just would prefer the cloth if they went that route in the sequel.

What about a blue helmet with hoodlike elements?

Can you give me some details so I have an idea of what your visualizing. Only thing I can think of at the moment would be the helmet but take away the silver face plate and replace it with the cloth hanging down.

Tell that to Hugo Weaving's V. A hood isn't threatening, either. The helmet would also provide more protection and a better range of vision.

The classic helmet...with little hanging cloth bits on the front, back and sides. Satisfy everyone.

didn't the CC in Sigma Six have something like that??....he had a helmet type thing, but his face was covered by a cloth and the eyes were visible

Presumably convinced that it will be roasted by critics, Paramount has decided not to screen G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra to critics before its opening on Friday, the Associated Press reported today (Tuesday). The studio has implemented a non-traditional strategy in promoting the film, showing it in advance only to carefully selected groups and a handful of what it regards as dependable bloggers and website creators. Most have already reviewed the movie -- positively. In an interview with the A.P., Paramount Vice Chairman Rob Moore said, "After the chasm we experienced with Transformers 2 between the response of audiences and critics, we chose to forgo opening-day print and broadcast reviews as a strategy to promote G.I. Joe. We want audiences to define this film."

wow...are studios actually starting to learn that critics are falling by the wayside and it is all about the internet buzz for genre films like this??

critics would roast it, just like they roasted ROTF. It's still fairly entertaining, if you're a hardcore joe fan, don't bother though I think you'll be too disappointed by some elements. The Baronness and her moments of weakness are stunningly terrible attempts to bring depth to her character. She should be 1 dimensional, the bad kind. When she is bad though she's quite badass and causes tons of destruction. I can see why some of these reviewers liked it but in the end it really wasn't anything special.

Snakes on a Plane. That all I gotta say, they thought buzz & cheese factor would sell that mess, and it bombed.

but this is a genre film based off of an established franchise, so it is different in this case

dismissing it (the power of the internets) all together is foolish as well

V wasn't threatening to me other as a character, he was only threatening when he had his daggers out as far as I'm concerned. Still a damn good performance from Weaving though.

You also bring up that the hood isn't threatening just like BlackLantern did, it's not the hood itself that is supposed to be threatening but the fact that you can see his eyes with that one. Yes a combination of both would be pretty cool.
Edit: Didn't see that pic you posted. That helmet for the Sigma6 series is a great medium like you said.

One thing I thought about Cobra Commander's mask is this...

from the beginning, he just has that little metal mask, which then evolves into a blue mask that covers the entire face(except for the eyes), and so many people are dissing it, but they should think of this...it being an origin story for Cobra, this could just be more evolution to Cobra's mask. At the end, he has a blue mask, but in the sequel, who knows...perhaps we will get the infamous hood. Perhaps the writers and producers will realize that it isn't so much of a KKK thing and the fans really wanna see it.

the problem is that this is a movie that probably will be seen by as many non fans as fans if not more and having a cloth hood does have a ton of negative connotations that are simply easy to avoid by not including it

We have a black president, meaning race shouldn't be an issue anymore, but yet people are afraid to have a hood on a villain.

Awesome.

There's more wrong with CC than the mask. I LIKE the mask. It's a twisted version of CC's original 'battle armor' or whatever that stupid thing was with the snorkel. Movie version > classic battle suit

Have you seen it yet? Because when he puts on the final mask his voice is ridiculously bad. As much as I enjoyed the Doctor, CC's final voice was ridiculously inappropriate. He should have a more effeminate squeaky snake voice, not sound like the movie trailer guy.

Yup that definitely means racism is finished. Anyone that's still racist is obviously faking it.

But yeah sarcasm aside, it's a stupid fear, give him the hood or at least the reflective mask, or keep the look from the film just give him a better voice.

Laudanum09, from the way your describing CC's voice I have a hard time imagining JGL pulling that off for some reason. Do you think there was some computer touch ups added to it like they did for Bale in TDK?

Either that or the voice isn't as bad as you say it is I'm guessing.

Id like to see the classic helmet with the faceplate, that'd be my preference
