The Dark Knight The Rachel Dawes thread

I never had any problem with Katie from BB so Ive always been part of her fandom but Im amaze that nowadays not only she has a love bandwagons but a caravan of Batfans. katie fit the bill along with the rest of the BB cast and she's the ideal Rachel Dawes. Its easy to understand why fans are having a hard time coping with the recast for plenty of reasons.
Maggie's looks does not concern because I cant even get into Jennifer Connelly,Rachel Weisz. Im not even fascinated by McAdams.
Its a pity some guys try to convince the naysayers by showing naked pics and racy spreads of Maggie. They're not helping because Rachel is so girl next door not pornstar next door. What an insult to men's intelligence and its also a matter of taste. Not all men go for the Playboy bunny types and Im with the fans that nude Maggie is still not sexy. Her breasts are heading way way south. Some judge someone's acting caliber by her nudity and sex scenes while many don't.

I assume TDK is doing the Ugly Betty route. :woot:

So it's going to be Maggie...most likely for the Gyllenhaal name.

She really has an unfortunate face. The way her face is shaped, more specifically, her pudgy nose, makes her voice sound really, really nasal, squeaky, and annoying. :whatever:

She is a tall and plain girl who can't get anybody's attenion, so she decides to do a bunch of nudie movies like Sherrybaby and Secretary, in the guise of "artistic" intent, to get people to look at her. Yuck. :csad:

It also appears that she has pledged herself to some feminist creed, to never put on a proper bra. So I think Rachel Dawes in the sequel will have extremely droopy boobs.

A better replacement would have been Michelle Monaghan or Jennifer Morrison. But, it's Nolan's call. I wish him luck! :oldrazz:

Should I be suprised that you don't mention that she's talented? It's ridiculous the way people have been critical of her...

I'd like to see what would happy to some people here when the same critical thinking was applied to them. I also wonder what people are basing this bashing on. In terms of how girls actually look - not those in comic books and those that are fake - Maggie is a really nice looking girl.

The Maggie hating is not new but only intensifies because of her comments about blockbuster movies and eversince she made Anti-American views about Sept.11 and United Airlines. Her own fans turned on her closing her sites. She got massive hate mails from our soldiers, families including the New York Fire Dept.

I Just Want To Say That I Am very Upset To Learn About This!!!

very Upset Indeed!!

Well...glad everyone's handling this news well and aren't upset at all.

Never heard about any of that.

But the truth is, even if she really did make such remarks, they have absolutely no bearing on her capabilities as an artist. If I only watched movies made by people I agreed with about everything... I probably wouldn't watch any movies.

ha that photo's funny, she looks like she doesn't give a shiit

Never heard about any of that.

That's because it's complete bull - the one fansite I know about made a comment that they got a lot of hits after what she said - that's it! I'm not even going into how wildly miscontrued those comments were - suffice to say, after idiots made a fuss about it, she actually offered to drop her role in WTC if the woman she was playing truly objected to her doing so. The lady encouraged her to stay on the project.

And unlike some people on this forum, my facts are actual facts and not TRUFAX. Please bring a better class of lying next time.

So what exactly did she say about 9/11?

So what exactly did she say about 9/11?

From Wiki:

Gyllenhaal drew fire after an interview with NY1 at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival where she suggested that the United States was somewhat responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks. She remarked, "I think America has done reprehensible things and is responsible in some way..." In response to the criticism, she issued a statement saying that 9/11 was "an occasion to be brave enough to ask some serious questions about America's role in the world" and that it was "useful as individuals or nations to ask how we may have knowingly or unknowingly contributed to this conflict." She pointedly denied saying that the 9/11 attacks were deserved.[12] Gyllenhaal later said that she regretted her comments, and asserted that film interviews were not the "right place" to discuss politics.[13] Gyllenhaal also said that she had "nothing but gratitude and admiration" for firefighters and that she should have "been more gentle and more thoughtful" in her comments.[14]
Gyllenhaal eventually met with Port Authority officer Will Jimeno and his wife, Allison, whom Gyllenhaal depicted in the 2006 film World Trade Center. Gyllenhaal said she would have left the project if the Jimenos wanted, but Allison Jimeno expressed that she and her husband were comfortable with her and "had no problem with her in [the] movie."

Hmm, well I guess it's a good thing she retracted her comments. :o

Her original comments were really America bashing and I will put the video up here taken from the Tribeca festival because Americans saw how big a difference and classy Robert DeNiro was on his speech unlike Maggie who stood at the very heart of New York. I hope she will be nice and careful once she does TDK interviews because she's one of those actresses that's into the classic insert foot in mouth behaviors.
I dont care one way or another what she does or say outside the screen but many folks still dont let it go. Getting back to the TDK programming Im not enthused with Maggie as Dawes. I have lots of trouble why Bruce wants her.

Thanks, Miranda, for clearing up the crap spewing from the Katie Holmes shill (I forget which one - I mean, it's one guy with dozens of user id's, so it doesn't really matter).

I, personally, found nothing wrong with what Maggie said. She probably should not have expressed it during a press junket, but whatever. One can have sympathy for 9/11 victims and still criticize the American govenment. It does not make you unpatriotic.

Freedom of speech only works for some actors? Other actors are demanded an apology for their opinions but some should be cleared.
They get away with everything. Katie can be bash here but Maggie bashing is not allowed.

And if you're a Katie fan you're immediately a Scientology wacko.
Which religion is the right one?
So to those who like Aaron Eckhart they all must be shills or Mormons
because Aaron is one.

Im laughing for a triple of things:

A fan accusing others of this and that when they're guilty of doing the same thing.

Some fans here hate Katie with a passion but where do they usually devote their time? On the Katie boards and TC boards.

The most pathetic thing is that they're at BOF kissing Jett's ass all the time. ITA Jett, Im with you Jett,Go Jett Go,Bravo Jett, oh what will
we do without you Jett but on other boards they backstab him badly.
That's what BOF family is all about.

Politics has no baring on the artistic merits of someone. I haven't seen any of her works so I can't give an honest answer if she is good for the role. My position remains; they should not recast Rachel Dawes.

Slightly off tangent: I rather someone be politically incorrect than hide behind political incorrectness. That said I find Maggie Gyllenhaal's opinion repugnant, defeatist and that of a coward.
I think America has done reprehensible things and is responsible in some way and so I think the delicacy with which it's dealt [in the film The Great New Wonderful] allows that to sort of creep in
Sure there are some Americans that have done some pretty ****ty things, but nothing ever justifies killing a chunk of people because they are "related" to your enemies. It's akin to saying your skin and nationality defines you completely, and therefore you are "responsible" for any flaws of the whole. Sounds a lot like racism doesn't it?

I cant beleive Maggie is being Rachael Dawes *shivers from terrible image*
That sucks....hard :csad:

Exactly. I just dunno why they are expending so much effort over something that really doesn't matter anymore.

Maggie's comments were factually incorrect and morally reprehensible. That being said, I rarely boycott a film due to philosophical/moral issues I have with an actor in it. If I did, I would miss a lot of good ones. I still think MG is wrong for the role. She is very hard on the eyes and I have a hard time imagining Bruce Wayne falling for her. Nolan missed it on this one.
