And here lays the incentive for Marvel moving forward beyond 2019. After the defeat of Thanos a villain in the making for so many years who becomes the next major threat? They make a few individual films facing minor villains until the next big ensemble flick rolls around.

Who will be the big game changer? What is the next big challenge? A lot of those guys are tied with Fox. Can they wait till 2022/2023? Or do they need to make a move now? Could this be what Fox is banking on?

I certainly think Fox is banking on Marvel's interest. But in a relatively short time, they will either have to make a film (which they won't do), or hand the rights over for nothing.

So at some point Fox is going to have to either take any reasonable offer Marvel is willing to make or walk away empty handed.

If I were Fox, I'd be negotiating like crazy to get some small say and cut of X-Men merchandise before it's too late.

I was thinking about this thread and how strong it's going and that brought a question to my mind:

Where's the Fox Fantastic Four anticipation thread?

I know there are people who pop on here occasionally and claim they want to see Fox continue to make FF films and they also claim Fox will, so why aren't those people talking about the upcoming Fox FF?

Why are people not speculating about when we'll get the announcement and anxiously awaiting hearing who will direct it and speculating about who the villains will be etc?

The anticipation for a Marvel FF film is muted by the fact they don't have the rights, but there's nothing holding people back from getting excited about a Fox FF film, is there?

It would seem to me that the people who claim they want a Fox FF film and believe Fox will keep the rights by making another film don't actually give a crap about that hypothetical film.

So if Fox made another FF film, who would they even be making it for?

I am anticipating the next Fox Fantastic Four movie

If it ever looks like Fox will try to make another movie, Disney should simply sue them. They should sue them for violating the quality clause last time and making a film that damaged their intellectual property and brand.

WB should sue themselves for the monstrosity that was the Halle Berry Catwoman movie

Recently, Jeremy Lasky shared an interview he did with Kevin Feige about the future of the MCU. The co-founder of Perception, the company in-charge of Marvel Studio’s logo designs, asked if Feige would be interested in bringing more Marvel characters to the MCU. Here’s what the executive producer had to say:

“Yes, of course! My goal is to replicate the experience that comic book fans have reading the books up on the screen and we’ve been able to accomplish that beyond my wildest dreams over the last ten years. And certainly, including Spidey in Civil War, in the upcoming Infinity War, is yet another dream that I didn’t even dare to talk about publicly because I thought the odds of it were very slim,” Feige said.

“So, no plans beyond that for the few remaining characters that aren’t already in the MCU but never say never. Who knows what can happen in the future?”

I hope Feige puts the Netflix characters ie The Defenders/Kingpin in the MCU in either a cameo or mention. Such a waste if they don't.

The F4 rights aren't nearly as essential as you might think. Marvel can ask for Sony for Norman Osborn and do an adaptation of Dark reign. They don't have to go bigger and it would be a mistake to go from Thanos to Galactus. Galactus isn;t even that interesting.

There i just mapped the next two phases without needing the F4 rights

One word: NO

I just wrote down an option that involves Hammer and Osborn for the next 1-2 phases and Marvel doesn't even have to touch Doom to make that. How is he essential?

If i told you 10 years ago that Marvel would make a shared universe without Spider-man your answer would be "They can't make it without Spider-man. he is ESSENTIAL"

Yet, the MCU happened and it definitely didn't need Spider-man and still doesn't to this day. Having him is nice BUT HE IS NOT ESSENTIAL.

You might love Doom. You might dying to see DOOM in the MCU. BUT THAT DOESNT MAKE HIM ESSENTIAL to the universe...

It seems consistent, just a slightly more positive spin to the latest comments.

The first comments basically said they're not working with Fox and these new ones say he'd like to get all the rights.

And he will. One way or another. But there's probably not much happening at the moment.

They are not essential but they are certainly desirable, And disagree that Galactus isn't that interesting.

One thing I could see, is when we finally lose Stan Lee, it would not surprise me if all three studios with a finger in the pie would band together for one thing, a tribute movie, or some scene at the end credits, sort of like a cartoon editorial I remember when Mel Blanc passed away, with everyone he helped to create around him. From all three studios, either current, or even the "other universe" versions. Given the recent cancels by Stan, that might be what we see before we see the rights revert. A sad thing, as I'd rather have Stan go out having had one last cameo, in the MCU version of FF, smiling down as the ones that really gave the true kickstart to his path come home.

I suspect that of the outstanding properties, FF is probably the highest priority and also most likely to return soon.

Spider-Man is a weird situation because Marvel can use the character but with limitations. If Sony is really serious about the goofy plan they've proposed, that probably means Spider-Man will be reverting fully at some point after the dust has settled on that mess (and fans have seen enough of Spider-Man).

Marvel is probably content to let Fox do X-Men for a while but if Fox doesn't get a lot better at planning, coordinating and making those films (and if they really let Kinberg take charge), it's as likely as not they'll be a mess several years from now.

And then there's Namor and Hulk which seem a little screwy.

So I would guess Feige and Marvel are most interested in FF at the moment, and then they'll probably wait and see what happens with the others and pick them off as they have opportunities.

That would be cool. I wonder if they've discussed (and secured the rights to) using CGI images of him to keep his cameo's going? I'd suspect he'd be on-board with that sort of immortality.

Marvel should make a Stan Lee biopic, instead of only always releasing comic book movies. It would be a nice change of pace and wouldn't have to be part of their three movies per year rule. Or if not just Stan Lee, then a movie about the early days of Marvel featuring Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko too.

Not sure who they could get to play Stan Lee.

Maybe Fox will make it though, and it will be SLINO.

Well looks do matter to some extent. I don't see someone like Russell Crowe or Hugh Jackman playing Stan Lee. He also has such a distinctive voice that if you didn't have at least some imitation of that, it wouldn't sound right.

I'd love to see that film! If they really told it like it was (and made it about Stan and Jack, not just Stan), I think it would be fascinating.

Lee was born in 1922 (yeah, I just looked it up) so he would have been in his forties for the FF era.

How about Adrian Brody?
