The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - Part 10

Disney laid off some employees that worked close to 20 years in 2017. So what?

The layoffs at Fox were due to poor performance. That's what! Funny how that's the only quote you attempted to single out as if the other 2 aren't relative. Not that Disney's moves have anything to do with Fox's current status or the lame initial comments trying to deter people from continuing to boycott Fox as if it isn't impactful in any way.

I have yet to watch 4stic, X-Men: Apocalypse, Legion or Logan nor will I. And the same goes for their non-Marvel films.

This idea is even dumber than the last Fantastic Four reboot. Nobody would want to see a film about the Fantastic Four's kids.

Congratulations!

At worst they knew this was coming and rolled over on TV rights anyway without hard balling anything beyond cash out of the deal.

The narrative that Zarex kept pushing that FF got traded for Legion was laughable the whole time.

Animation/Video Games should be able to get a deal done.

The FF hasn't earned FOX a dime in well over a decade. It has zero value to Rupert and his sons. The X-Men TV rights (including Legion, The Gifted and perhaps others as well) could potentially be worth tens of millions of dollars annually in streaming fees annually. Usually in business trading a worthless asset for something of value is considered a "Good Deal". I'm not sure what happened here.

Animation/Video Games should be able to get a deal done.

Normally I would say that the Mouse wouldn't give up additional character rights to FOX. But it appears as though Iger bent over on the last deal, so who knows?

Business 101. You have something a competitor wants. They only offer something you don't really need, but they do have some things you would like.

Do you A) give them what they want and just take the thing you don't really need or B) insist they pony up one of the things you actually do want.

The narrative isn't so much they must have traded the FF, but that there was surely something else in that deal. Star Wars ANH distribution rights for example would have been another possible option.

If Disney didn't hard ball something from Fox on that deal (remember Fox went to Marvel asking for it) then my belief that Disney are tough negotiators is rather blown. Thats a deal that might make even Avi Arad blush.

All that being said this is all rumor at this time, and while it looks like FF wasnt in the TV deal at all that doesn't mean there wasn't something else.

Remember when they had it all figured out? 'Tim Story's films didn't work, because they were aimed at a younger audience and not serious enough, so we're going to go for a more serious, mature tone with Fant4stic.

And now to suggest they might focus on characters that few people know or care about and make a film specifically aimed at kids.

It's hard not to be amused by the depths of their cluelessness. :lmao:

It's like they were beating themselves on the head with a shovel and that hurt, so they switched to hitting themselves in the balls and that hurt, so they went back to hitting themselves in the head... but this time with a sledge-hammer. :funny:

I can only imagine a world where films are made by people who want to make the films...instead of people who have exclusive rights to characters and stories they don't care about at all.

I can certainly understand the desire to cash in on the Marvel characters for which you have live action rights, but the cinematic expansion is way too much for the market to bear. Between Marvel (Black Panther, Infinity War, Ant Man & The Wasp) FOX (New Mutants, Deadpool 2, Dark Phoenix) and Sony (Venom, Animated Spider-man) we have a whopping eight Marvel character films coming in 2018.

EIGHT!!

That is an absolutely insane number, and goes up to a ridiculous 10 superhero films in one calendar year when you add Aquaman and The Incredibles to the mix. And this number could increase after WB/DC gets up to speed and Sony increases production on the Sony Spidey Supporting Character Non Connected Cinematic Universe (SSSCNCCU). And I'm not even considering here the two dozen or so TV shows based on comic book characters either on your telly or in development.

What I'm saying is - enjoy the era of peak superhero while it lasts.

Which is why you need to expand the genre by also making shows or movies that are not about superheroes (Preacher, Walking Dead, Riverdale, Legion, Lucifer, 300, A History of Violence, RED, Road to Perdition) or shows or movies about superheroes but don't act like the standard superhero tropes (Logan and the Netflix-Marvel shows) It gives the audience (especially ones suffering from superhero fatigue) more variety and stop the comic book genre from being over saturated.

As long as they're good, I could see a different one every week. But of the list you posted, I'll probably only see the three Marvel ones. I'm not interested in animated Spidey, I'm not interested in Venom and Fox goes without saying.

I'll wait and see if this latest rumor is true. Venom has no appeal to me. The Fox movies will be dependent on whether they're really doing Fantastic Kids or not.....Deadpool interests me.....Dark Phoenix does not.....Aquaman may....Incredibles does not.

I've said it many times before, but Fox with the FF is like the classic Aesop's Fable "The dog in the manger".

But the way they react every time an FF movie is not well received is also like the Aesop's Fable "The man, the boy and the donkey."

The Man, the Boy, and the Donkey

A MAN and his son were once going with their Donkey to market. As they were walking along by its side a countryman passed them and said: “You fools, what is a Donkey for but to ride upon?”

So the Man put the Boy on the Donkey and they went on their way. But soon they passed a group of men, one of whom said: “See that lazy youngster, he lets his father walk while he rides.”

So the Man ordered his Boy to get off, and got on himself. But they hadn’t gone far when they passed two women, one of whom said to the other: “Shame on that lazy lout to let his poor little son trudge along.”

Well, the Man didn’t know what to do, but at last he took his Boy up before him on the Donkey. By this time they had come to the town, and the passers-by began to jeer and point at them. The Man stopped and asked what they were scoffing at. The men said: “Aren’t you ashamed of yourself for overloading that poor Donkey of yours—you and your hulking son?”

The Man and Boy got off and tried to think what to do. They thought and they thought, till at last they cut down a pole, tied the Donkey’s feet to it, and raised the pole and the Donkey to their shoulders.

They went along amid the laughter of all who met them till they came to Market Bridge, when the Donkey, getting one of his feet loose, kicked out and caused the Boy to drop his end of the pole. In the struggle the Donkey fell over the bridge, and his fore-feet being tied together he was drowned.

“That will teach you,” said an old man who had followed them:

“PLEASE ALL, AND YOU WILL PLEASE NONE.”

This is what Fox is like:

Audience: "It's too juvenile"
Fox: "Let's make the FF dark and gritty"
Audience: "It's too dark and gritty"
Fox: "Let's make it more juvenile"
Audience: "It's too juvenile"
Fox: "Let's make the FF dark and gritty"

Rinse and repeat.

:funny: We can always count on you for the most appropriate obscure fable.

I feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day except I am waking up to April Fools Day every damn day. Its one stupid joke of a rumor after another from these studios now.

A movie devoted to Franklin going through puberty?

People discussing whose the main villain in Kraven The Hunter's movie?

WTF is going on these days?

It's like watching a slow-motion train wreck. The first films had some serious flaws. And Fox's answer was to throw out all the parts that worked, keep the flaws and add whole new levels of flaws.

And since that worked so well, it seems like they want to try that strategy again.:loco:

If not Groundhog Day, it's like the tagline from Edge of Tomorrow:

Live. Die. Repeat.

That's what happens with all of Fox's efforts for the FF. For a time it lives. Then it dies. Then they repeat. :o

I realize this is just rumors thus far and I will treat it as such..........but if there is any truth to this I hope it goes from the boardroom to the garbage can. Because I already started the countdown to reversion I just need Fox to hold out a while longer. I don't want to hear any rumors that don't involve Marvel using these characters.

:funny:

I'd put money on Fox. They've got a LOT more experience.

Nah, I've got to go with Sony on this one. Fox is capable of good stuff when they actually put in the effort.

Sony is completely inept and constantly bungles even their most important franchises.

Fox is lazy. Sony is stupid.

Fox isn't great but they made Logan. I'll give them credit for that as I think it's a great movie up there with the best of the genre. People want to give them credit for Deadpool but that movie was successful completely in spite of themselves. Sony is comfortably worse. They haven't produced a Marvel movie worth watching in over a decade.

Marvel Studios and Disney were in no position to make live-action X-Men TV shows. That's why they made a deal there.
