The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - Part 10

We can only hope this is all just some form of negotiation tactics on Fox's part to see if they can get some money for the franchise being returned. Or some smoke screen for a Spidey-style deal, with Marvel being the actual production company.

Still, not good news. To quote a certain TV show (Newsroom) "There isn't enough bourbon in Kentucky" to deal with it.

This **** about their kids being the main characters is disgusting. Hope it's not true. We all know where this franchise belongs.

I doubt Spy Kids 4: Fant4stic will be made. Remember, Fant4stic bombed hard. FOX lost profits because of this film. Of course, I'm just speculating, but it would be unwise for FOX to make another FF movie, but who knows?

I hope that if Spider-man Homecoing is really good and does well in the BO, that Fox will recognize that Marvel took a failing Franchise and restored it to success and profitability. Then I hope they figure out if they want to keep the Fantastic Four Franchise the only way it will work for them ever again is to do a deal like Sony did giving Marvel full creative control and they pay for it and distribute it. Because otherwise the Fantastic Four Franchise is dead to them. Throwing money at it is only going to make it worse.

To be fair no matter what happens Marvel won't be "restoring" Spider-Man's profitability. All of the Sony movies comfortably made good money.

If ASM2 comfortably made good money ASM3 would be opening next month.

I think the chances of them doing the Spy Kids story is very slim. But even a slim chance of something as absolutely awful as that is too much.

And I'm becoming more concerned this could be an intentional ruse - float the idea of this awful concept with the hope that if they announce a more serious effort we'll be relieved and support it.

Of course we won't, but if they're thinking that way...:barf:

Why would anyone want to support a Fox helmed FF? They had 3 films with these characters and each one ranged from 'meh' to 'oh man, kill it with fire! No, it's still alive, burn it again!' Considering each film made less and less money (remember, Fant4stic bombed) it still stupefying to reboot the franchise over again for FOX.

According to Deadline, ASM2 made a paltry $70 million after all revenue streams and expenses were calculated. For a studio in such dire straits as Sony is, that simply wasn't enough of a profit to justify continuing the series. Sony desperately needed Marvel's help to rehabilitate Spider-Man and bring in more revenue to stave off bankruptcy for SPE.

I just find it weird that being the forward-thinking man he is,Feige hasn't thought about the necessity of having many of the characters linked to F4 after Phase 3 ends.

Nobody will. Even the Fox sycophants who will pop in to express support won't have any real interest in the film.

But if Fox had even the slightest understanding of what we want, why would they have made the three films they made?

They have a long history of making films FF fans don't want, so while it would be completely stupid/crazy for them to make any kind of FF film at this point, it was stupid/crazy to make a film like Fant4stic, and damned if they didn't go and do that.

I think he does, but he probably has two problems:

1. If he expresses a serious interest, he increases the price.

and

2. Disney/Marvel management probably isn't willing to pay much if anything for the rights. When Feige tells them he wants them, they likely respond "You've got 10,000 characters you haven't even touched yet. Figure out how to work those in before you worry about the ones Fox has."

To add to that they already payed quite a bit to get Spidey in the MCU and Sony is definitely taking full advantage of the situation to the point that it is negative for them. They are probably in no hurry to do a similar deal with Fox with no guarantee that they won't skrew them over too.

You are wildly misinformed. Marvel didn't pay anything to get Spidey in the MCU, and it's clearly not a negative for anyone yet.

But the defenders will still show up. They didn't have any real interest in Fant4stic yet defended it to their dying breath. They'll be back for this movie, saying how interesting every development is and that they're going to see the movie ten times!

In fact, we should go and look for them on this forum and invite them back into this thread so they'll have something to rally around and provide us with some entertainment! :o

I'd be very displeased if Fox made another crack at it, but watching the MCU haters try to defend another Foxtastic Failure would be endlessly amusing.

It's been less than 2 years since FFINO came out. It is way too early for Fox to be doing this. It's 90%+ likely a negotiating tactic. If it is legit that would indicate that something has changed with the required intervals between FF movies to keep the rights. I have long thought that reducing the interval between FF movies would have been a smart thing to do in the Legion negotiations. Feiige would be telling the truth when he said they don't have the rights but making it harder for Fox to hold onto them would have been worthwhile.

I don't think he meant money. And as far as negative, I think he means with Sony looking more and more like they plan to backstab Marvel once SM:H2 is released. With Amy lying right in front of Feige about Venom being in the MCU and now plan to expand the Spiderverse, there's no way they would do that without any plans of Spiderman showing up. With the exception of Venom, no one is asking for these movies. And a Venom movie without Spiderman is one of the dumbest ideas ever.

I think it has benefitted both in terms of what both companies wanted. Marvel got Spiderman in their biggest films to date for Civil War/IW. And they get to market him with Avengers.

I don't think Marvel was blindsided by what Sony is doing. When they made that deal I never thought Sony gave up on doing stand alone spinoffs. I called it then. Everybody thought Sony wised up and chose to stick to the plan. They just delayed it till Homecoming arrived. Only thing I got wrong was I thought the morons would announce this stuff after the release.

To play Devil's Advocate, FOX probably thought they could get some kind of profit from Fant4stic, even though the movie was utter garbage. When reviews and word of mouth called out the awful movie, profits declined and Fant4stic bombed hard.

From a financial standpoint, its insane to reboot a franchise with declining returns, and the latter lost ~$80 million in profits. That's why I doubt that FOX will reboot the FF, and Spy Kids 4, Fant4stic won't get made, but who knows? FOX could try anything to hold on to a franchise they have no clue on what to do.

Eh, SONY has always been cocky. Remember, before the release of ASM2, they've been promoting hard with a Venom and Sinister Six spinoff before that movie fizzled out. Its not surprising they're doing this now, using the MCU as a backdrop.

This is probably the most likely interpretation, and if so, that's good news for us.

But it's still hard to battle the visceral reaction of disgust even though it's probably more positive than negative that Fox is floating this rumor.

He said multiple times in the last few days that there is no plan to get the F4 in the MCU.

I don't think that means he wouldn't like to have them and their supporting characters. There may be barriers preventing this from happening. When they ask him this kind of questions about "future plans" you have to give the most political answer possible without showing your hand.

He never mentioned any plans about wanting Galactus and Surfer either but we found out there was interest at the expense of DD.
