Jon Hamm would be a good Reed

He could work.

He has the opposite problem to Henry Cavill. Cavill's hair is too curly for Superman. Hamm's is a bit too straight for Reed Richards. I'd like him to perm it slightly.

Dark Raven and hair...it never gets old :funny:

Hamm would be great but it seems like he's against Comic book roles

Hamm would have made a good Lex Luthor, but I hear he didn't like the prospect.

Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Reed. He can pull off nerdy. He's basically a doctor.

Considering that DCEU Lex Luthor is a distracting man-child, I can see where he's coming from.

Okay, I gotta get this off my chest, because it points to something I'm getting a little tired of.

Reed Richards is many things. But the only trait that overpaid Hollywood screenwriters can think to give him is "nerdy". And I'm talking Hollywood-nerdy, Big Bang Theory-nerdy (super-smart but poor social skills and needs to get the girl to be validated), not like real-life nerdy, which runs the gamut of (lemme see here) everyone on this board for starters. :whatever:

I wanna see a Reed who can be other things too.
I want a Steve Jobs-type control freak who needs to learn to lighten up and be a father-figure to his team as well as a boss.
I want a Reed who can be a competent leader, who can do right by his family while using his know-how like a boss.
I want a Carl Sagen-type who's filled with awe and wonder at the discoveries the FF get to make, and can inspire his teammates in the process.
I want a Reed who's smart about being a celebrity and can turn the team's adventures into an enduring brand.
All of which go well beyond what many of us would think of as "nerdy".

And that's just off the top of my head.

Reed shouldn't be 'nerdy' though. Might be considered a bit of an ananachronism these days but the adult classic 616 Reed was never a nerdy geek type. Fox made that mistake 3 times already.

Honestly, Reed should command a presence where if he is speaking scientifically about anything, even Tony Stark would shut up and listen.

Reed should be more like Doc Savage than the Doctor. Or even like Indiana Jones. He was a professor who, if people were to inquire about him, could label him as a bit of a nerd just because he spends all his time fascinated by archaeology. But Jones is an intelligent adventurer and intrepid explorer too who can easily hold his own in a fight and get the girl.

That's the model you want for Reed. Not the professor from Gilligan's island or the way he was portrayed in the FF movies,.

Even in the TV series "Forever", Ioan Gruffudd played a character far more like Reed than in the Story movies. He was super intelligent and learned, but very charming and could take care of himself. He was even brutal when he needed to be and could use his medical knowledge to kill you.

Yup. I agree. He's not Peter Parker.

if F4 was made in the 90s/2000s, tom hanks would be my perfect reed.

he has to have that warmth and approachability but still have that father figure/leader quality

hard to think of an actor like that now tbh. hamm is too dark/roguish, always fancast for bruce wayne for example.

I don't care how old he is, Hanks would be perfect. His presence would give the FF reboot the star power it needs. We can always get to know twenty something Reed in the FF prequels.

Patrick Wilson for Reed Richards. He is no stranger to CBMs and is a capable actor to pull off being a nerdy science wiz and one of the MCUs top minds.

He even has the hair for it in this pic

He's even got people creating manips like this

Bonus:

Sue Storm

Rosamund Pike is a highly capable actress.

Go for the daily double: Colin Hanks for younger Reed, Tom Hanks for a more wise older one. They sound enough alike, looks are like Tom cloned himself and cleaned up a bit, so...

Man, Patrick Wilson would be an AMAZING Reed Richards. I'm just worried about his age for when the movie actually happens. I don't think anybody here besides Dark Raven is taking into account this movie will unfortunately be out in 2020 at the soonest. And then they have to do sequels on top of that which is the first one would be 2022-2023.

I just wish this deal happened 4 years ago before FFINO came out.

wow i haven't seen a recent pic of colin hanks in a while, and yeah, he's like the spitting image of his dad :wow:

reed needs to absolutely be an A-list actor at least in terms of talent. he needs that gravitas that hanks has

i think matt smith can pull all that off.

Jake Gyllenhaal

I think one of the things that need to be elaborated on for Marvel's take on Fantastic Four is present Johnny as considerably younger than the other 3. One of the things the past "Fantastic Four" films have failed to convey is how Johnny is an immature kid among adults. He looked more like a pompous dude rather than an over eager teenager. It also helps play up the family dynamic by presenting Sue in a more motherly role to her kid brother. If I was Marvel, I'd look for late 20s to late 30s actors for the 3 adult members, and late teens to early 20s for Johnny.

I'm leaning towards Oscar Isaac for Reed these days. Another Fox alum finding new life with the MCU.
