The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - - - - - - Part 15

They did own the production rights to Fantastic Four, but now they don't. Disney obviously bought them as soon as the Fox deal was sorted.

This response is EXACTLY what I predicted would happen in the previous (now closed) version of this thread.

Here's that direct quote from the old thread

Man it is REALLY frustrating seeing all these articles and YouTube channels parroting the "Constantin owns the rights to FF" myth.

What is particularly galling to me is that when this gets done and the FF are inevitably part of the deal, all these sites that benefited from all their clickbaiting will simply claim that Disney must have worked something out with Constantin before the deal was finalized.

*Bangs head against the wall repeatedly*

Allow me to quote Ace Ventura now.

Man, I'm tired of being right.

Disney must have done a deal with Constantin Films straight away.

I saw the Tim Story films, and I have no idea if they were in the credits but they most likely probably were in some way.

That's one of the many ill informed click bait jobs that cropped up recently.

FYI, the title cards read "20th Century Fox Presents...In association with Constantin Films and Marvel Entertainment".

Seriously, all 3 films were Fox's on dime and time. All decisions made on them, from casting, directors, who made the coffee, were Fox's. The fate of the rights being extended by more movies or reverting back to Marvel if the deadline run out...All in Fox's hands. The box office take and cut for movie tie in merch? Paid to Fox.

Did you find in your research that in 1999 the deadline was nearing its due date? Guess who negotiated the extension? 20th Century Fox.

Does all that sound like Fox were only ever the distributor?

Honestly, whatever 'ownership' rights Constantin had was effectively signed over to Fox post Corman when they realised they couldn't make an FF film themselves. They, with Marvel, made a new agreement with Fox who cut a check, picked up the tab and all duties for the films, and let Constantin keep a credit and distribution in Germany in return.

:funny:

That came out on the 12th after this: https://screenrant.com/disney-fox-fantastic-4-rights-constantin/2/ came out on the 11th.

And if you read the actual dim-witted and poorly researched Screen Rant article that started all this you'd see they actually say in the article: Although Cons***** Films’ agreement with 20th Century Fox remains unclear at this stage, as the fine print of their arrangement has never been made public,

So they talk as if what they're saying is fact while putting a huge disclaimer right in it.

Meanwhile, we've been discussing this on this forum for years and we've seen numerous authoritative sources that have told us Cons***** no longer has any say.

Marvel didn't make any last minute deals. Screen Rant simply had their heads up their butt.

The writer of that article was of the digific variety. :o

Constantin sounds like the name of some shady Russian Oligarch.

This is so painfully, painfully obvious, that I don't know how any reasonable person could take the Screen-Rant article seriously from the start. It was obviously untrue.

Const***** wasn't explaining why they lost $70 - $100 million on Fant4stic, Fox was.

to put it mildly: Constantin doesn't have the financial ressources to put a big blockbuster together. They did great stuff in the 80s when FX work wasn't as expensive as it was today, but nowadays, they simply couldn't do it. When they decide to make good international productions, though, like adaptations of novels, then they are some of the best in Europe.
But on a blockbuster level? nope, unless you count the Resident Evil movies or P.W.S. Anderson's Three Musketeers as blockbusters

Happy days are here again! Free at last!

Yeap Kinberg should be gone. He’s going to screw up Phoenix storyline again that there’s no way Marvel Studios will touch it for another ten years.

Personally I don’t care if we don’t get X-men for another 10 years. I want a great Fantastic Four movie.

There is the one downside. Fox gets to ruin the Dark Phoenix saga one more time right at the end. The timing would have been perfect for Marvel to use that story in the next 5 years and rehabilitate it.

I feel your pain. It's like trying to explain the obvious to the brain-dead.

You all realize, of course, that the mere mention of the name of "that" company only increases its power? YOU FOOLS!!!! YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT EVIL YOU HAVE WROUGHT UPON THE WORLD!!!

I really hope we get a Dazzler musical movie now. Under Disney is where it can be done properly. There's a ton of potential for this.

Which is exactly why i would like nothing better than that movie getting stopped in it's rotten tracks and never gets released.

There's no guarantee Kinberg wouldn't be involved. Kinberg works with Lucasfilm and is in good graces of Kathleen Kennedy.

Never going to happen. All those movies are getting released.

did you seriously just write those words?.. in THIS thread? Never going to happen...
Just like you ridiculed me for posting s countdown to comic con and saying that i believed some deal was in the works behind the scene...
It wouldn't be the fist time a finished movie isn't released to theaters.

If it was to be stopped, Disney would need to control FOX sooner than the 12 to 18 month window. As it stands, I don't see it being shelved.

In a way I'd be glad that DP story is out of the way as it means we can get Jean as oneof the backbone members of the X-Men long term without this death sentence hanging over her head.

The upside is that Feige can use other iconic storylines like Mutants Massacre, Genosha, and X-Tinction Saga instead of yet another Dark Phoenix Story. I’m very excited to see what they have in store for us. I’m sure Feige is giddy like a school girl now because he had laid out a plan for X-Men but Fox chose not to use it, and now he can use whatever he wants.

I have to pitch myself to see that the day has finally come and both X-Men and FF are coming home to Marvel. It’s a dream come true.

Marvel also has the chance to redeem Apocalypse! Because Marvel would not make Ivan Ooze!

Or, they could have included it as part of the handover layout, because it would conflict with the plans they have for the character rights they are buying... we don't know the details, but the possibility is there and it's the outcome I'm hoping for

is #AnnaKendrickForDazzler already a thing?

No. But I want a proper MCU Dazzler casting thread now. And one where people won't be constantly objecting to it as never happening.

Not sure where to put it at the moment. Marvel films? X-Men board? I don't know where anything goes anymore.

The movies are getting released. Fox is still operating for right now business as usual. The deal isn't final until it completes regulatory review. Fox isn't going to cancel these films.

The countdown clock was wrong. I never believed a deal like this was impossible. Disney buying the company was a whole separate deal entirely.
