I don't see an evangelical Christian who's come up from Parks & Rec to tentpole star making an ultimatum that sounds like "If the 3-year-old molester goes, I go."
Agreed. I don't see Pratt making some moral grandstand for Gunn. He'll probably come out and say something about love and forgiveness, but no way is he going to fall on his sword defending any of this.

Here’s a scenerio in which I think Guardians 3 could get shelved or delayed.

What if Chris Pratt and other cast members decide to leave their roles out of protest over Disney’s decision and loyalty to Gunn?

As I understand it, actors with contracts can't just leave their roles on a whim. They can get fired, yes, but the option is in the hands of the studio. One would expect that Feige and Marvel Studios will try to smooth things over with the cast before the film moves forward. It's been done before, probably countless times over the years, given how common firings are in Hollywood.

Korg was right. Just sayin.

The problem is that, the fault lies with Gunn, and although they're probably upset about his firing if they decided to leave GOTG Vol. 3 because of it, it will also reflect badly on them. I know Dave Bautista is not happy about it, but I think after a few days he'll come to his senses, albeit begrudgingly.

Fox is hardly alone in that arena. Fox along with the Murdoch are more of the rule, and not the exception. Media in general is a pretty scummy place.

The bigger danger wasn't so much as the deal being derailed, but the loss of value. Disney was put in a situation of being perceived of bias. Given how politically charged things are nowadays, that is potentially the makings for a very bad situation. Notwithstanding at the onset of the biggest acquisition in Disney's history when consumer engagement is going to make or break them when it comes to digesting Fox. They need all the consumer support they can get, and then some.

Between this situation and Rosanne's, they've done what was right. Not necessarily what was easy, but still right.

Exactly. They aren't called leaders for nothing.

I don't understand what you mean about Disney's (possible) perceived bias. Are you referring to Gunn's political views? That doesn't affect Disney in any way, imo. He wasn't speaking in any official capacity when stating his opinions, any more than Iger was when saying that he would like to run for president (against Trump) in 2020. In truth, most average citizens don't care much about the political views of the people who entertain them. Or their personal lives, religious views, etc. Otherwise, half of the actors in Hollywood would be unemployable.

When it comes to that, the only problem Disney had to contend with in Gunn's case was the same one it confronted with Barr. As a major media conglomerate, Disney cannot be perceived as having anyone in its employ who espouses repugnant views. It can't allow itself to be seen by the public as tolerating such speech, and as such, it had to terminate both individuals. It is striking that in both cases, there was evidence that existed before they were hired, yet it was either ignored or overlooked. A lot of trouble would have been saved had these things been discovered and dealt with years ago.

So how about those FF rights coming to Marvel Studios. Pretty cool eh?

Bautista hasn't read all those tweets -- he is just reacting to the firing of a friend for telling tasteless "jokes" -- I'm glad he is loyal but when things settle he will move forward as Drax and get with the program.

He also knows the man personally. He's got real insight.

What? When did that happen? All right!!

Of course it hasn't happened officially yet although it's imminent. I just wanted to bring this thread back to a more positive subject. I'm pretty bummed about the Gunn thing.

I'm still completely shocked by the news...

Just imagine if they fired Feige over something like this then that would be really catastrophic to the MCU.

That's pretty much what happened to Pixar and WDA with the firing of Lasseter.

Can you imagine if Feige does quit Marvel/Disney over this and his replacement is Simon Kinberg?

Feige is not going to quit because of one director's bad behavior. I'm sure it stings now for Feige and his team but they've faced tough challenges before and will likely regroup to finish up Phase 3 while prepping Phase 4.

Yeah, we've been chewing over the news of the day for too long, myself as much as anyone else. There was worse news, too, elsewhere in fandom. But that was yesterday (for the East Coast). Time to move on.

The Disney/Fox deal (which is not being scuttled!) is still the most exciting entertainment news of the last few years, as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully, Kevin Feige is distracting himself by daydreaming over the stars he can cast to play the Fantastic Four and their villains. I'm really no good at fan-casting but I can't wait to see who gets chosen. Feige and Sarah Finn have come up with (mostly) perfect fits so far, and I expect that trend to continue.

Seriously though, who could replace him if he wants to move on in 2020? How many producers like comics as much as he does? They can't bring someone in who actually works on comics, because that's an unholy mess. Maybe there's some minor producer working today who USED to work on comics...

Feige is not going to quit. His contract will be renewed for another 10 years or whatever. What I'm saying is the brand is stronger than the individuals. Disney (and Marvel) can get knocked down, but they will get back up.

Firing Gunn is like a hard straight right that just landed. Losing Feige would be akin to getting knocked down and still being on wobbled legs. They'd survive though.

Don't like where that last bit is trailing towards.
Geoff Johns is a worse choice.

Likely Louis D'Esposito or Victoria Alonso. If not, them or Feige would be connected to people who they believe could do a great job.

Feige is far likelier to be poached by a rival studio than to be fired or quit outright over Gunn. He allegedly came close to quitting in 2015 over Perlmutter's interference, but Iger quickly gave him what he wanted to keep him happy. Disney will probably give Feige a huge new contract to keep him on at Marvel Studios for the foreseeable future. At $17 billion earned and counting, Feige is the most valuable man in Hollywood right now.

In fact, my one nightmare about Feige is that a massive bidding war for his services breaks out among the studios and alphabets, like the Lebron-a-thon in the NBA. Feige's pending free agency is a scary thing. I don't want the architect of the MCU going anywhere until he gets the FF and X-things sorted, and only then ascends to Disney president. At least, that's my dream. :awesome:

Bautista is good in the role of Drax but he’s easily the most replaceable of the cast. Chris Pratt would definitely be the hard one to replace.

Just get Ryan Reynolds. Why not? The MCU won’t ever get Fox’s Deadpool, where he makes a lot of pedophile/child rape jokes, into their universe so you might as well still get Reynolds and get someone else for MCU Deadpool.

When you think about it, Feige may be the most impactful producer since the studio system, where you had greats like Thalberg and Selznick.
