I rewatched First Class and now I'm re-looking at Days of Future Past... it just pisses me off with all the missed opportunities and liberties with the characters that Singer/Kinberg/Vaughn took.

No kind of respect to the source material, just took a bunch of mutants and storylines and threw them at the wall to see what stuck.

Disney I'm so glad you're getting your characters back.

Someone here mentioned something happening on August 7th, related to some kind of international regulation. Can anyone confirm?

On Friday there's also a lunar eclipse which is meant to be very clear to see (except perhaps in the US).

Not that it means anything to the Fox takeover. But it will be Disney eclipsing Fox.

I wonder when/if the FOX/Disney merger happens, will that Noah Hawley Doctor Doom movie be made? It might, though I suspect that it will have to be rewritten to fit with the MCU. Also will it be made before or after the MCU FF reboot?

You know, I used to get so annoyed watching all the movies: “Man, Fox really missed the mark!” Now I’m ecstatic that they did all those years, because now Marvel Studios can get it right while still treading new ground.

First Class is one of the best superhero films. It would be the best of not for excess characters.

First Class was pretty good but I'm not sure if I'd call it one of the best

This is a good question. It all really depends on what plans Marvel would have for the FF if/when they get the rights back. If Feige likes Hawley's script enough & sees potential in it he may want to move forward with the project though of course he'll likely mandate some revisions to make the script fit in the MCU.

I think even if Kevin Feige is interested in Hawley's project, he will most likely still want to move forward with a proper full-fledged MCU Fantastic Four film first before a Doom movie--and re-introduce Doom there before a solo film. If Feige taps Hawley to do a Fantastic Four film instead of a Doom film then it's possible Feige will allow Hawley to incorporate ideas from his Doom script into the film. At the very least I think Feige will be very impressed with Hawley's talent(we know the Russo Brothers are huge fans of Hawley, and likely would champion him to be involved in the MCU in some capacity). I can't answer definitively other than say that a solo Doom film would not be a priority for Marvel as much as a proper FF film would be.

Everyone loves First Class but I couldn't get over Mystique being Xavier's "foster sister" and then Havok, Beast, Mags and Mystique being the first X-Men.

Too Elseworlds for me.

Not everyone.
I thought it was a good movie, but a poor X-Men adaptation.
It was more like reading a What If comic that you put down and immediately forget.

They could rework the Doom movie to give us his background, but then have him come into conflict with an existing MCU hero at the end, like Iron Man, Black Panther or Dr Strange. Neither of those would need any set up (unlike the FF) and would provide Doom with an antagonist whom we can already relate to.

It would also help establish Doom as villain to all the MCU heroes and not just the FF.

First Class is structured as a Greek tragedy that's also social commentary. It's about Xavier and Erik's souls, and also addresses real-world issues. Spider-Man 2 is the classic example of an intelligent character film with superheroes, while having nothing to say about society. There are a couple of MCU films that address the real world, namely Iron Man 3 and Black Panther, but neither did it nearly as well as First Class.
Iron Man actually came close to being a perfect superhero film, but the seeds of being afraid to address the real world (so the terrorists in Afghanistan aren't Islamic...?) And unwillingness to give Stark a tragic flaw are already visible.

Of course they don't, but the X-Men dwarfed the Avengers 5x over before the first Iron Man movie came out. And what do you think can happen once Feige gives the X-Men the same treatment he gave the Avengers that turned them into a cinematic bemoth? Something magical, that's for sure. I could easily see, with proper build up - the X-Men under Feige reaching the same height as the Avengers. And who knows? We may start reliving the early 2000s when the X-Men were along with Spider-Man, were Marvel's star money maker.

The X-men will be more popular than they were at Fox and they will eventually get into the billion club but they will never get close to 2 billion. That's what me and the majority thinks it's gonna happen.

I don't see any movie in the forseeable future touching IW's gross let alone another comic book movie. Maybe Avengers 4 but that's still Avengers.

Anyone else really hoping for a Fantastic Four release in Marvel's hands to not only capture the humor and family aspect, but to really showcase science as awesome and full of wonder and color and all that jazz? Kind of like some moments from the Ant Man movies, or more like some of the classic Star Trek where exploration and discovery was cool and exciting?

Like a moment tracking down the molemen underground and they come across a giant cavern full of color and glowing crystals and mushrooms that would just be pure spectacle on the big screen?

Yes! When the comic books first came out, they were different than the traditional superheros. It was more sci-fi with settings and visuals like we had never seen before.

At least for the first film (and this is why I'd be interested in Mole-man), I'd like to see the primary drama based on: "Oh no! What kind of unexpected danger could be lurking behind that rock?" as opposed to "how can we defeat this super-villain?"

I'd like strange, alien settings, creatures etc. I think that would make it stand out from other MCU films and also be true to what made the FF comic books so unique.

Not even close. I can think of at least 10 movies better than FC but opinions and all that.

Yup.
It can work. Have very little of his college time with Reed, so that can be explored later on in the FF movie. Instead focus on what happened after. In the end of the movie he can be shown to become the ruler of Latveria.
That way when the FF face him in their movie's sequel (because I don't want Doom to be the antagonist in their first movie.. again), he would be full fledged Doom primed to attempt the next step in his plan for world domination.

I don't like the idea of starting with a Doom origin. I'd like to see him introduced as a mysterious and incredibly powerful character. I don't want to see an origin until they've introduced him as the universe's ultimate villain.

Then, after we've seen him as that, it might be interesting to see how it all started.

Fox was stuck because they had to make something and they had already destroyed the FF, so Doom was one of a small number of viable options.

Marvel can do whatever they want, so I think they should hold off until the time is right.

At this point I'm hoping there's no F4 film until 2023, because Doctor Doom is more important and there doesn't seem to be a dramatically compelling place in the schedule free for him until 2023 (Doctor Strange 3).

It reminds me of that quote: "Is Ringo the best drummer in the world?" "Ringo isn't even the best drummer in the Beatles." :funny:

I don't even think First Class is in the top 5 of Fox/Marvel films... and that's a low bar.

No he's not.

That would be cool to see but RDJ may be gone post-A4 and there won't be a new Iron Man solo for awhile. I could see Doom appearing in BP2 as a side villain setting him up for the wider MU

But Doom being a side villain in BP2 would be terrible. He's bigger than that.
