The first thing to go up in smoke when the deal is finalized are those contracts.

Only question is if Marvel will continue Legion & The Gifted as is. The Fox movie series dies with either Dark Phoenix or New Mutants (if the latter is ever released).

New Mutants is the only bummer. It looked fresh and different.

Legion and The Gifted could get moved to Hulu. New Mutants is happening the reshoots started this week.

No need to move Legion, Disney will own FX.

Really have no clue about the other.

Yeah why move Legion at all if you want to keep it on the air? They own the network now (FX, not Fox TV).

My guess is that focus on MCU will move to the X-Men, maybe FF and Silver Surfer, and away from Avengers.

Absolutely not. Avengers are by far the most popular team in the world and they will have 4 movies in the top 10 of the highest grossing films of all time by 2019. 2 of them in the top 5 if everything goes according to plan. No other franchise in the world can claim that.

They are the cornerstone of the mcu and their highest valued brand. The focus will remain on them. The x-men wont suddenly become on par with them just because marvel has them.

I mean who is to say the X-Men brand could never be on part with them for the movies?

The X-Men are not new, though. So I think it is harder to elevate them to Avengers status. The Avengers was something fresh and new, and even if done better an MCU X-Men will still be just more X-Men movies. The Avengers brand will continue for sure. Marvel Studios will just grow the FF and X-Men at the same time, like they did the GotG and such.

I think the need to see an actual comic accurate movie that’s actually made by Marvel Studios is what’s gonna drive X-Men’s resurgence. Even though Avengers are the box office champs now, the general audience still has a love for the mutants.

That’s why Disney would be fools if they don’t make AvX at some point.

Honestly, I don't see an X-Men film ever making 1.5-2+ billion like an Avengers film. Potential 1 billion movie? Possibly some day. But never Avengers money.

Maybe they will eventually, but it would be foolish to just assume it. Nothing in the franchise's past suggests it is going to any time soon.

X-Men totally could.

Who’d thought Black Panther gross over a billion? It can happen.

Black panther was also coming off billion dollar civil war, a huge hype train that rallied the black community because of the dangerous political climate, had never had his own movie and was a rare black superhero film. It also had an all star cast and great director. I knew BP would gross over 1 bil the moment I saw the first trailer and saw how people reacted behind it.

Xmen could crack 1 bil maybe if it had outstanding marketing, great reviews and word of mouth, tapping into a wider audience with its message, and the audience realizing it's a fresh deal.

But even spiderman didnt crack 1 bil, and it had iron man in it. it was freaking spiderman who also coming off civil war and was probably one of the most well recieved versions of the character since spectacular spiderman.

Common sense is to say that. The audoence has been exposed to 11 x-men films, the property isnt fresh.

Avengers was and still is somewhat fresh. When it came out in 2012 the audience had never seen anything like this before. They have already seen the x-men time and time again.

Even if the mcu x-men is better and more faithful its never going to go at avengers level because the property is OVEREXPOSED.

You just compared a property that had never appeared in live-action, had an unprecedent cultural subtext, a rare 98% black cast and a novelty about it. Thanks for proving my point.

The mcu x-men will have NONE OF THAT. I get the feeling some of you are detached feom reality and merely project wishful thinking. Next year the 12th x-men movie will come put. 12th........

You guys gotta keep something in mind about X-Men. We've only seen them:

We have yet however to see THEM:

The colorful, powerful, larger than life way they were meant to be seen.

And they wont gross a billion if that happens. It will still be still, logan, cyclops, jean etc
Nothing fresh maybe different and marvel can shake things up but not fresh.

They can make the meal tastier but the customer has eaten the dish before.

Doesn't matter. The X-Men are still not new. We never saw a MCU Spider-Man until Homecoming, either. But it didn't crack a billion. FFH ain't making Avengers money, either. And that's Spider-Man.

Yeah the X-men's box office potential has been pretty well-drained, unfortunately. We've had so many of those movies and we're about to have another one next year.

This is really the biggest issue with it. That said, there's nothing to say that down the line Marvel can't build them up into a potentially billion dollar franchise. But it would take time. Nobody expected TDK to explode the way it did. BB was only a modest hit (in part suffering from lackluster marketing and the lasting stigma from B&R).

However, I would put nothing past Feige at this point. He's not going to absentmindedly shove them into a film. He's going to do it in a way that's going to build hype. Establishing the X-men within the MCU will cause some waves. And of course, whoever they cast as Wolverine, even if it's an unknown, is going to get people excited. But X-men certainly won't be able to pull a Black Panther. It would be a slower build to making massive cash I think.
