Once again the anti-mcu brigade comes out and cries critic bias when non-mcu comic book movies like venom get negative reviews. The critics are always wrong In their eyes. The same thing happened with FF In 2015. I'm seeing it all over FB its embarrassing.

So people saying they enjoyed the film hate the mcu?

Most people love the mcu, so if you are seeing it all over fb then it's probably because people enjoyed the film. Not heard anyone say it's a great film just that they enjoyed it and think the critics are wrong (even though some critics said they enjoyed it).

All this conspiracy stuff is boring.

Basically that and gems like these

"I'm starting to see a pattern where superhero movies outside of the MCU are being rated poorly, which is sad considering the MCU is so childish."

"It's safe to say anyone commenting about venom like it's a bad movie without actually seeing it yet are what's wrong with comic fandom today."

"Why do people feel the need to really give a **** about...
what critics say????
How much money it’s gonna make or not????
Whether it’s marvel or dc????
If you like the look of any movie just go and watch it and make your own ****ing mind up on what you as an individual thinks of it!!!!!
Not really that hard eh!!!!"

" Because review numbers are dumb and people should form their opinion based on personal experience."

So Fant4stic was really a good film but all the critics and comic fans just decided to hate it for the sake of it?

I thought before that FFINO defenders were saying that critics' and comic fans' opinions won't have any effect on it because it represents such a small percentage, and it's all about what the general public actually likes.

There is 2 sides to every story. Just in the Venom forum, many seem to think you almost have to apologize for paying to see it because reviews are bad. In the end, neither side is any more just or correct than the other side. People are just looking at a different bias, ignoring their own.

I love the MCU. But I am also giving this movie a chance and not actively rooting against it (at least until I see it). It is possible to do both. It's also perfectly fine to have no interest in Venom if you think it looks like garbage. But don't act like there are not people on both sides trying to say the other side is stupid.

Apart from the top one i don't see anything wrong with any of those comments. Treat the film for what it is, if you want to see it watch it if not don't. If the reviews make you not want to see it fine. But all this dc fans v mcu fans v non mcu fans is tedious. It's fed by trolls to wind people up.

Who mentioned fant4astic?

I really should just stop following comicbook.com on facebook. its a breeding ground for fanboy wars.

Looks like it should be smooth sailing from EU then. Unless they delay approval out of spite. Even if they begin a 4 month investigation it will still close by March-June. So it would be right within their official forecast.
Yeah, I think come the 19th, it'll be approved and that will be the end of it.

China feels like its gonna be the biggest hurdle. Despite Disney having a good relationship with China the tariff situation obviously isn't helping.
IIRC, there isn't much in the way of approval except for some Star services. Most of what the studios do in China is controlled locally.

At the end of the day there are a lot of critics that have said it's bad. But there are also a lot of people that have seen it that say they enjoyed it.
Who's right? Dunno people enjoy different things in films.

There are too many trolls today trying to stir stuff up on the internet for whatever reason. Cbm's and starwars seem to be targets to try and split fans. If you enjoyed a film it shouldn't matter if someone else didn't and vice versa. People have different tastes. I don't get annoyed at my wife for liking marmite even though i think it's the most disgusting food on the planet. She likes it good luck to her. She doesn't try to convince me to like it.

I guess with Venom its that fact that I've been burned 3 times now by Sony. Spider-Man 3, Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Venom.Venom was Strike 3. I'm out. And the fact that Sony is basically holding Spidey hostage as a result he cant fully take his rightful place in the MCU because there is too much risk on Disney's part when Sony could pull out at the end of the deal. Imagine if in Far From Home established Spidey as the new face of the MCU and then they pull out of the deal. Marvel would be screwed.

Venom is looking like its going to make $57 to $65 million on opening weekend. I don't see how that's a good thing for this movie if you add the poor reviews and the amount of money it cost and the fact that Sony wanted it to be a launching pad for new Spider-Verse spinoff movies. What is there to build on?

Solo was supposed to have a huge opening, and we know how that turned out. I honestly wouldn't put too much thought into any projections.

Even if Venom has a 'respectable' opening, I don't expect it to have staying power.

Marvel wont make spidey the face of the mcu unless they had an extension in place. Even then they have loads of other characters.

They created the mcu without spidey it can survive without him. Although we all hope it wont come to that.

If you don't want to watch venom that's fine you don't have to. You might be right as critics are saying it's bad. But some people have enjoyed it, doesn't mean they hate the mcu. Just they enjoyed it. If they are saying that critics are in conspiracy that's wrong too. Critics usually come from a film or arts background and will see a film a bit differently than the ga who mostly rate a film on if they enjoyed it or not.

If you're going to watch Venom you're basically giving Sony even more reasons to pull Spider-Man off the MCU. Just think of it.

I haven't decided if I'll watch it but if I do it'll be only after a month has passed since its premiere.

Also, it's expected to make around $135M in the box office, according to box office pro. Considering the awful reviews, it could make even less. And with a budget of at least $100M, the future is not looking bright...

Sorry but what does this mean?

As I understand it, Comcast took it upon itself to appoint three new members to Hulu's board a few months ago. Under DOJ rules against anticompetitive behavior, Comcast isn't allowed to use its power to take a management role in Hulu because the streaming service is a competitor to Comcast's cable service. Appointing new board members might be a move towards restricting Hulu's ability to compete with Comcast. Therefore, the DOJ is looking into Comcast's actions, though there is no indication of what remedies it might impose if the cable company is found to have stepped out of bounds.

Bob Iger must be delighted. :D:

Ah I see. Could this effect Comcasts Sky deal in anyway?

I have no idea about the Sky deal, though I imagine there might be a problem for Comcast if Hulu is a major player in the EU.

The real issue here is that the DOJ's investigation might affect Comcast's handling of its 30% stake in Hulu. Bob Iger has made it very clear that he intends to use Hulu as a major part of Disney's streaming strategy. Controlling the majority stake in Hulu, Iger wants to use the streaming platform for more adult films and shows. That would make Hulu an even stronger competitor for cable companies. Comcast's additions to the board could be a sign that it intends to impede Disney's changes to Hulu's programming. These considerations might lead the DOJ to put pressure on Comcast which in turn could strengthen Disney's position in negotiations to buy Comcast's 30% of Hulu.

I have no idea how this will play out buy it will be interesting to watch.

I’m very indifferent towards venom. I hate Sony and what they’ve done to my fav character. I want them to fail but I don’t want venom to suffer cause of bad buissness. I want a proper venom adaption but I can’t have everything . Idk. I just don’t want this to tarnish venom’s rep like asm did to spidey

I saw someone on reddit mention that due to Disney losing sky which was about $40 billion of the 71 billion they were paying and now that they lost that asset that the actual cost of buying fox is now closer to 30-35 billion. is that right?

As I understand it, no.

I think Fox's attempted purchase of Sky would have been an additional debt taken in by Disney post deal had it succeeded (presumably Disney were ok to to do that) but the cost agreed upon for Fox's current assets did not include/assume the future potential purchase of the remaining Sky shares. It did include the 39% stake Fox does already own.

I think that’s what they’re saying, though. That the tendering of that 39% is what shaved off the tens of billions. Making the acquisition of FOX, Star, RSOs, etc. relatively cheap compared to the number we’ve been hearing about forever.
