slightly OTT but chris evans has wrapped on Avengers 4. His tweet makes it sound likes hes done with Cap.

Thanks.
I wasn't sure if the previous range was mid 50s or high 40s.

its gonna be sad if a large chunk of the OG Avengers probably wont meet the xmen or F4.

Welp. There goes my dream of seeing Chris Evans Captain America meeting MCU Johnny Storm and Deadpool makes a meta joke about how Captain America used to play the Human Torch when they meet. :csad:

I just don't want the characters to die. Retire them but don't kill them off

It's a cbm dead doesn't mean gone forever. The character is worth billions now. We'll see him again at some point.

Yeah, I'd like to see them strive for something like the comics in which all the characters coexist simultaneously. They'd have to swap out actors periodically, only focus on certain characters at certain times, and maybe do some soft-reboots along the way, but I'd like to see, maybe 10-15 years from now, a full MCU with all characters available so when they decide to tell a particular story, they can just pull those characters out and hit the ground running.

Have Rogers retire from being Cap and pass the mantle on to someone else but keep Rogers around for future cameos.

There is no other way.
It’s like the law of Equivalent exchange: In order to obtain, something else of equal value must be lost.

While we will be getting Fantastic Four and X-Men the downside they’re coming into the MCU somewhat late in the game, Fantastic Four should have been in the MCU much earlier than we are getting them now but obviously due to the reality of situation with the rights at the time they never could until now. We likely won’t be seeing some of our dream crossovers like Iron Man meeting Wolverine, or Reed Richards, as he(along with several other characters) could potentially kick the bucket in Avengers 4. But at least we might see Spidey meet the X-Men(assuming all goes well, and Sony allows him to stay in the MCU long enough for him to meet them).

I'll miss Chris's wonderful portrayal of Steve Rogers. But I would much prefer another character - perhaps another Captain? - take center stage than awkwardly recast a character with 10 appearances into an ongoing connected cinematic universe. Or give it a few years and have another character, such as Elijah Bradley, pick up the shield. I love the comic books, but I don't think resurrecting the same characters in the same stories over and over for until the heat death of the universe is a good idea for a movie series. Hopefully the MCU will let characters grow, change, retire and die.

That would be fantastic.

Even if all they do with them later on is a fun cameo appearance, but I want them to exist in the MCU as the world continues to grow, not just be part of it's history.

That would be ideal.

That’s why it’s a blessing that they’ve expanded far beyond the core Avengers members. They’ve successfully introduced characters like the Guardians and Black Panther into the universe, and soon Captain Marvel will take center stage as a core character in the MCU. So the answer isn’t to replace the actors, the answer is to replace the characters and allow new characters to take the spotlight. Recasting old characters with new actors isn’t as effective as replacing the old characters with new characters.

Even without the Fantastic Four and X-Men they still have access to a vast array of characters that can carry them over to another decade.

I don't know about other people but that kind of approach would create the most long term investment and loyalty out of me.

Yep, and then it's also very rewarding when any of the old faces return and join up with the new ones. Films like IW/A4 aren't possible without this kind of approach and in the future the possibilities and choices will be that much wider.

im seeing a number of news outlets already taking this tweet as confirmation he hasnt renewed his contract. It does seem to imply hes done but can we not jump to conclusions with click baity headlines.

Personally wouldn't want that, steve rogers is captain america. Anyone else is just a bloke with a shield.

Evans gave us a phenomenal eight years (by the time A4 comes); if there is truth to this, he will leave a tremendous hole in the MCU. Whatever his decision as an actor, though, I respect it.

That said, I agree entirely with others in saying that other characters shouldn't take over. Captain America is no more of a "mantle" than Vito Corleone, or Dorothy Gale, or Luke Skywalker. He's a character- not a mantle.

I'm also against the idea to recast Steve Rogers.Let MCU played it out like Star Wars, and after X-Men & FF have their run Marvel Studios can look to reboot the entire universe in 20-30 years. It will preserve what these actors have done without watering them down with recasting.

Btw, I know that they had recast Rhodey and Banner but now it's different.

He's a mantle just like James Bond is. :o
