A time like 12:02am makes it pretty clear what the actual effective date is, where some electronic systems use 12:01 as a safe start to the day setting things at 12:02 avoids confusion. Likewise, 3:02AM on the East coast guarantees it's the same calendar date in all 48 contiguous states, making the creation of a timeline of events easier for everyone.

But it's not 3.02 am EST. It's 12.02 EST which means it's still 1, 2 or 3 hours behind if you're in the Midwest, or on Mountain or Pacific time. It would still be Tuesday 19th at 11.02 pm or 10.02 pm or 9.02 pm in other states. It wouldn't be the same calendar date.

That definitely makes sense (and with such a straightforward reason, I can't believe I didn't think of it on my own....)- thanks for the reply!

I know people are happy about the X-Men and Fantastic 4 going back to Marvel Studios effective midnight tonight... but seriously, less competition in the movie marketplace is not good in the long run. Even with Disney keeping Fox and Fox Searchlight as labels, losing a major studio is a blow.

What with Disney swallowing Fox, I fear it’s going to lead to a round of mergers like the airline industry went through in the last decade. I’m sad to see 20th Century Fox become a shadow of what it used to be.

I'm torn between going to a theater to watch Dark Phenoix or just digitally renting it when available. Part of me wants to go because it's an X-men movie and I've gone to every film in the franchise on day one except for Deadpool 1 & 2 but another part of me just hasnt cared about the trailers much, Don't like many of the spoilers and it's the last film in the whole franchise , which I am glad is over before MCU X-Men.

I'm sad for Fox going under but Fantastic Four and X-Men going home isbanaxong news and am so ready. There's other competition out there

I prefer to see it in a theater as that would prevent me going through my phone and things unlike if I'm watching it in my bedroom.

Thing is, Fox was just going to sell either way. It was either Disney or Comcast or someone getting it. They wanted out. It definitely sucks for everyone who will lose their jobs and such, but that is really out of our hands. Thus I am looking at the silver lining in this case.

The thought of Comcast almost getting the deal

The Murdochs are moving on, but a number of heavily capitalized tech companies have moved into film development within the last few years. Competition is growing, and additional studio mergers are likely as the smaller entertainment companies try to keep up. And for those who fear the loss of the movie going experience, a healthy Disney is vital as they are one of the few players still fully committed to theatrical exhibition.

This. I always said before that I just wanted the Fantastic 4 back with Marvel and Fox keep the X-Men, but Fox was selling anyway. I feel bad for the 4,000 people who are losing their jobs, but not to sound like a d-bag; that doesn't affect me. The MCU having access to all of its characters, does.

Less competition in terms of the studio system, but more competition in the upcoming streaming wars. Mergers are the only defense against deep-pocketed tech companies who have zero reverence for Hollywood history. If making Hollywood extinct was the cost of them getting richer and winning the content game I doubt they'd care much. They have a philosophy of winner take all, which I find disgusting. Studios either have to step up to the plate and control their destiny, a la Disney, or submit and be swallowed up by larger corporate entities, like Universal and WB the last few years..

Battle Alita which is bombing hard is going to be the last film Fox releases(correct me if I'm wrong).

I'll watch the movie in theaters(assuming it comes out on the big screen) since I want to say goodbye to this franchise that kick-started the modern wave of superhero movies on the big screen.

Dark Pheonix isn't confirmed for theatres?

DIS just dropped ~3% as we close for the day which means I'll get more money for my FOX shares.

Dark Pheonix isn't confirmed for theatres?

There are agreements already in place that are pretty much guaranteeing its getting a theatrical release at this point unless Disney want to pay a break up fee to get out the IMAX and distribution deals already in place for Dark Phoenix etc.

Dark Pheonix isn't confirmed for theatres?
I guess its about as confirmed as its ever going to be but I just feel like its not really coming out.

Then again, I felt the same way about Fan4stic and that didn't have a big acquisition like this happening before it got released.

If Manabyte is to be believed doesnt sound like were getting any fox properties in phase 4 but he also teased in another tweet that Eternals will plant the seeds for Mutants.

Dark Phoenix is still coming to theaters, guys. Stop hoping it won't, lol. New Mutants on the other hand? We don't know about that one
