The thing is too, even if they do get everything right. Where to they go with the story and how long does it last? The old business model for this was at best 3 and done. Marvel, Star Wars, DC, and to a lesser extent Harry Potter is in the process of changing that model. I don't see Fox having enough ancillary characters or tie-in points to keep interest in the franchise long term anyway, especially if they can't cross with X-Men.
That means even at best we get 3 films. Then a possible re-start.
Fox's best bet would be to go all in on the X-verse. Put the staff in place to really manage that franchise. Then start trading for things to enhance that. Hopefully they've already started.
Edit: Just remembered this article from the other day. It talks about the state of box office, franchises etc.

They mention some of the things I said above but went further down the rabbit hole of which franchises have been successful. They note that those that continue to evolve have seen the greatest rewards while those that re-hash the same ground over and over again get sidelined. Anyway I'm just thinking that is further support of the fact that Fox should take stock of what they have and focus on doing great work on the X-verse instead of trying to add in something that might not be a good fit.
Just read that actical.
What's fascinating is the fact that the author of the article did their best to up the panic factor while not really putting much emphasis on the fact that the main films doing the flopping are the same ones that ranged from mediocre to terrible. Add the fact that there's a new one shoe horned into a threater every weekend and it shouldn'be any surprise why they're missing their mark box office wise.
If the MCU continues to up the ante there's no cause for alarm where it matters. While studios like Sony will sit and scratch their heads wondering why instulting 30 years worth of Ghostbuster fans didn't go too well.

yes keep alive everyone. One day we will see our favorite family of superheroes realized on film in the right way!

t: Who would ever cast a white guy as a white character? How 2000s of you...
