The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - Part 7

Marvel could still offer Fox more time on the DD reboot rights in exchange for Galactus and Surfer. Time to think about their missed opportunity while they rewatch the DD Netflix show. :o

Fox doesn't have DD anymore...like at all, in any capacity.

I know that. That's why I said that Marvel are just offering Fox some time to reflect on what they missed out on in return for the rights to Galactus and Surfer. :o

Okay, using this page: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLK5HARgNfgj-PrPFWJ18sMP1ikSvKP8IW

And way too much time, I made this list.

The ones in green have either already been featured in a Marvel (or Sony) film or TV show or will be appearing in a known Marvel or Sony film or TV show.

The ones in red are clearly controlled by Marvel or Sony but haven't been featured in a film or TV show yet (Since some of you are probably much more on top of things than me, you might know that a character has already been confirmed or strongly rumored for an upcoming film).

The ones in black are the only outliers that we either know or presume are still controlled by Fox.

You can see a very dramatic pattern here. The vast majority of characters are ones that Marvel has already featured and the majority of red ones are characters that could very well be featured in upcoming projects.

None of the big X-Men or FF characters (except for the glaring exceptions of Silver Surfer and Legion) are featured.

I think this is interesting not just for the SS speculation, but it may give us a clue as to what characters to expect in upcoming Marvel and Sony films.

Captain America
Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel)
Thor
Luke Cage
Captain Marvel

Nova
Scarlet Witch
Spider-Man (Sony)
Captain America (Sam Wilson)

Hulk
GOTG

Great list!

I would greenify Fal-Cap (Sam is in a similar position as Jane), Drax and Mantis.

Nova hasn't been in a film, but the Nova Corps has. Also, Amadeus Cho's mom was in A: AOU.

Also, it has been rumored that Angourie Rice will be portraying Gwen Stacy in Spider-man: Homecoming and Squirrel Girl would be headlining a New Warriors TV show.

So if we leave out Legion (Marvel/FOX co-production) and Secret Wars, we are down to 10 characters with no relation to the present day MCU:

Angela
Spider-man 2099
Hyperion
Blue Marvel
Spectrum
Spider-Woman
Thundra
Silk
Slapstick
Silver Surfer

And of these, only one is (was?) clearly a FOX controlled character.

We all know what this means......................................................................

Yeah, I just made that edit. Some of these are tough because they cross some lines that we haven't seen in the films yet, but we can assume they'll be going there at some point (or at least could if they choose).

Mantis is in GOTG2 this year.

And why do you have Secret Wars as a character?

Changed Mantis, and as for Secret Wars, I just went down the list of videos and that was one of them. Civil war is on there also. Could Secret Wars be part of Phase 4? I don't know if there has been any info. or speculation on that.

I could see the 2019 Avengers film being Avengers: Secret War.

Also, your red doesn't look very red. It looks more brown or dark purple. :o

There's a difference between Secret Wars and Secret War though.

And I think the Avengers or MCU films need to give the "war" titles a rest. We've had Civil War followed by Infinity War. Imagine having Secret War (or Wars). People will start to think they're really unimaginative. And some might not even qualify for a war. Captain America 3 was more like a Civil Skirmish. :o

Hard to say what direction Marvel goes in after IW. Its too many questions about how the aftermath leaves the MCU. Now that IW is a self contained film......everyone is dying to know what that 4th Avengers film will be. But its still part of phase 3. Spiderman Homecoming 2 was recently announced for 2019 the first film after it. Even though I am not sure if that was just Sony undermining Marvel schedule.

At least we know Spiderman survives it all.

With Sony and Disney/Marvel still in cahoots there was probably joint agreeemnt on the SMH 2 announcement.

Since Marvel will be making SMH2 as well for Sony I'd think that announcement was with both parties full knowledge and consent. And of course he was gonna survive :cwink: They wouldn't kill off Holland's Spider-Man when he has only just started. Would defeat the purpose of casting a young Peter (for once) with Holland, so they could keep him in the role for as long as possible.

Secret War/s would be a logical choice for a Phase ending big event. But without Doom and the FF I can't think of any version (original or recent) where it would work. Doom especially is central to the plots of both.

Like "Harry Potter and the"? :woot:

I know.......kinda joking bout the Spidey survival.:o

Assuming talks with Fox are stalled, I'd like to imagine Kevin Feige has a big grease-board somewhere with the full schedule of tentatively planned films listed and a big "DOOM RETURNS" written on the day Fox has to either start production of their next film or forfeit the rights. :woot:

Feige talked about how they had two separate plans moving forward in case a deal for Spidey was made. I bet the same applies to the FF and its world of characters. We should be getting some info this year on the upcoming phase 4 slate at some point. At least those 3 2020 films.

From Wobbly's and my speculation, Fox has to start filming between mid 2022 to maybe early 2023 at the latest. Marvel probably already has a rough plan for films through that time, then after that, they can start thinking about FF characters with a fairly high confidence they'll have them by then. :woot:

Given that many thought that Runaways was a strong possibility for phase 4, the only reason I can see for tossing that to TV/Streaming gives me another glimmer of hope. Why toss that property, unless you plan to do a *proper* PowerPack movie, with that 5th member of that team? One whose rights lie in that studio we worry about touching his parents and uncles ever again.

I doubt that has anything to do with Fantastic Four, and everything to do with Runaways being more suited for an extended format. Or more importantly, being *doable* on an extended format budget. You can make an argument that characters getting tossed to Agents of SHIELD is a sign that they don't matter ( with the possible exception of Ghost Rider? ), but that certainly isn't the case with the Netflix shows. Runaways is basically the same deal.

Runaways with its premise is better suited for a TV series.

On multiple occasions the show emphasised that the original Ghost Rider - presumably Johnny Blaze - is a separate character than the fellow driving a muscle car on AOS. If GR makes an appearance in a Dr. Strange sequel I'm pretty sure he will be riding a motorcycle

I think that's true. I feel like the Marvel have so many film franchises right now that they could accommodate the Fantastic Four. Right now even Iron Man and Hulk can't get a solo film in Phase 3. Marvel's remaining properties really need to be done on TV.

Here's how I'd break it down

New Film Franchises
War Machine
Black Widow

Sony Distributed Film Franchises
Silver Sable
Venom

New stand alone films which won't get sequels
Black Knight (but only if Francois Girard can direct)

TV Shows on ABC
She-Hulk
Thunderbolts

New Freeform or Hulu Series
Avengers Academy

New Netflix Series
Shang Chi
Elektra
Blade
Ghost Rider
Moon Knight
