Hey, she looks pretty good. What scale is she in? Not that I collect action figures. Is she Marvel Legends scale?

How come they're producing FF-related merchandise?

EDIT: I see she's 6" and is Marvel Legends. I agree she looks like the best Invisible Woman figure produced.

I kind of, sort of collect Thing figures, but I haven't bought any recently and I've never really found one that made me say: "That's the Thing!" They always look sort of goofy and disproportionate.

I liked the head sculpt on this one:

But his arms were like a gorill

I'm pretty sure Johnny Storm used this one in the first FF movie to show to Ben Grimm the talking figure saying "it's clobbering time!".

I wish a movie would have a Thing face design like this instead of what he got either for the first 2 Story FF movies or for Fant4stic.

Yeah, I actually have that one, and it's probably one of the best I have. And sadly, most of the highest quality ones were based on the Story films, so they have that screwed-up face:

He also has a horrible shade of orange which is sort of washed out. I like the colour of the Marvel Legends one.

His face is perfect for that catchphrase. He has the right amount of grumpiness but still looks funny. It can't be that difficult to make a Thing head cast or even a CGI model to look like that. They don't need to humanise his face so much like they did for the Story films, or make him look so monstrous like the Trank movie. He still needs to look like the loveable, blue-eyed Thing.

Agreed. Marvel will get it right when they have him.

I've seen a few busts that looked pretty good, but never a good action figure . . . and certainly never a good film version (frankly the Corman film was probably closest).

As disappointed as I am in how bad Ben and Doom have been, it makes it that much better to look forward to the day we'll finally see them done right.

We've seen three different versions of the Hulk and they've all looked good in their own way. The Thing can't be more difficult than the Hulk for a design and animation team that knows what they're doing, can he?

Trank's Ben Grimm had absolutely no personality. Ben in the comics has one of the best personalities, and Jamie Bell's version had none whatsoever. He was just mopey but almost a cypher. You'd never catch him saying any of these phrases like "What a revoltin' development!" or talking about his Aunt Petunia. Or even talking about giving Robert Redford (or whatever modern celebrity) a run for his money with his looks. And his catchphrase "it's clobbering time" came from his bully older brother!

I think The Thing is easier than the Hulk.
He's supposed to be less human looking than Hulk, which I think makes the creative process easier. The closer to human a CG character has to be the more work that needs to be put in to make them look photorealistic next to standard characters. The micro expressions and level of details required for Hulk just wont be that necessary for Ben.

Yeah, of all the crimes of Fant4stic, I think making Ben a dull, uninteresting character was one of the worst.

One thing Marvel need to realise, unlike the Hulk, is that when Grimm is the Thing, he looks absolutely nothing like his human counterpart. It's not like Ruffalo where they've taken his features and exaggerated it to look more monstrous as the Hulk. Ben Grimm's face is completely covered in rock and looks a character unto itself. It's not just a rocky version of his human face.

So they can afford to scan that Marvel Legends figure or even take it straight from the comics. It's just like Groot or Rocket Raccoon. Groot doesn't look anything like Vin Diesel or Rocket like Bradley Cooper. And we don't want to be seeing the actor's face for Thing. He needs that exaggerated unibrow and small nose.

Yeah, I think the closer a character is to human, the more our brains detect tiny details that just aren't 'right'. If someone really know what they were doing, they could probably give us something really cool.

I actually remember seeing a CGI "Screen Test" that was done prior to the Story film. It wasn't great, but it was still sort of cool.

Have any fans ever done a cool CGI Thing? If I had the talent and software, I'd love to try something like that. I'm going to do some searching to see what I can find, but if anybody has any cool clips, I'd love to see them posted here.

Yeah, I hope they don't try to go the "make it look like the actor" route. The actor's face should be completely hidden and unrecognizable. The actor can provide some motion-cap for expressions etc., but the features shouldn't look like their face.

I think if anything of the actor were to show through it would have to be the eyes, and that's it.
Otherwise, I don't see how they can create a good Ben Grimm post transformation while still maintaining the appearance of the actor's face... That being said though, if anyone were to be able to pull that off, it would be Marvel/Disney.

That looks like the 60s version of The Thing.

Fortunately I missed that one. It was going to be a first day watch for me, but by the time it came out, it was pretty clear that it was going to be horse$#!t, so I stayed home. I didn't even watch it when it went on HBO or whatever premium station it played on because it would have just depressed me.

There's always the late Mike Wieringo's Thing:

I'd love to see something like that with Ben Grimm's jaw which slightly juts out.

In fact, his FF would be a great template to have for the movie. His designs look very Disney-ish, and the whole "Imaginauts" storyline (written by Mark Waid) had a story about the comics trying to update the FF for modern audiences but their designs failing miserably. So they sent a representative to spend a week with the team to see what makes them tick. And what he had to report back is that you need to make them MORE like the classic FF everyone knows, rather than less like them.

So Trank and Fox obviously never read that story or ignored it, because they did the very thing that was discussed in that comic, and they failed just as predicted.

Ben Grimm needs to be the heart of the team. He was never remotely like that in Fant4stic.

He would also be fantastic if he were in Infinity War. He was great in Secret Wars, even despite changing back and forth between his human and rocky versions.

Audiences need to love him like they do for Rocket and Groot.

I have some mid sixties FF comic books on my website. If you click on the cover of the comic book to zoom in, you can see the thick, jutting out part where Thing's eyebrows would be.

I'd put using "It's clobberin' time" as a phrase uttered by the older brother before he beat up Ben Grimm being near the top!
