The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - Part 8

Until it's ready to be made sounds like "until the rights are about to lapse again."

If Fox make another Fantastic Four, Reed Richards will be a muslim, Sue Storm will be Indian, Johnny Storm will be a woman and Ben Grimm will be a transvestite.

So F4 doesn't appear to be what Marvel Studios apparently got in exchange for the whole X-Men TV show deal.

Therefore, maybe it was merchandising or promotional stuff they got.

Any deal, if one has or will happen, would likely be above Simple Simon's pay grade.

Simple Simon admits as much with "I have no idea" in response to 'the question of whether or not Fox has to keep making Fantastic Four movies in order to hold on to the rights.'

Hell, we all know full damn well that they do, you'd think he would too if he was in the loop at all.

At least we can tell he does know is that there is no movement from Fox at the moment for another effort.

I was about to post something very similar. While I don't believe Marvel has the rights all locked up at the moment, if they did, that would be something they wouldn't want to get out and the way to prevent something from getting out is to make sure only people who absolutely need to know are in the loop.

I don't see any reason why Kinberg would be on the short list of "need to know" personnel.

As for speculation regarding what Marvel may have gotten, it's not out of the question that they may have gotten Galactus and Silver Surfer since we know they had tried to get them in the past and they would fit in an Infinity Wars story.

Simon's "I have no idea" is a bigger lie than "It's not a disaster". According to the Hollywood Reporter's FFINO postermortem, the folks at FOX "were afraid of losing the rights so they pressed forward and didn't surround [Trank] with help or fire him. They buried their heads in the sand." There's zero chance the writer/producer/fill-in director isn't aware of the terms of the licensing agreement.

If Fox tries to make another one, Disney should sue them.

If Fox tries to make another one, Disney should sue them.

We've discussed this in the past, and I suspect Disney could sue right now just based on Fant4stic and have a reasonably solid case, but I suspect they don't want to push the issue at this moment.

But that could change if Fox starts gearing up for another film.

Only way we might get a hint is if we see something on the MCU docket with a working title of "Crown Jewels" or "The Family" on the working projects name list. Hell, "kinship" would also set off my alarms of joy. Or any title with some hint of there being a family involved.

It sounds like Kinberg knows that it's over. Fox should sell the rights back so they can get something in return and Marvel can put a film in production that much faster. If Fox want to use the same cast, they should at least sell Doom back so he can be used in Black Panther 2.

At the very least Marvel should make a deal with Fox for some villains wrapped up with the FF rights like the Skrulls, Blaastar, Doom, Galactus, Kang, Annihilus, etc.

If FoX could get Ka-Zar, Shana, Moon-Boy, Devil Dinosaur, & The Savage Land I think that'd be a good trade.

I would imagine anything involving Fox giving the rights back .......if somthing hasnt already happened in some capacity........would be strengthening the X brand. Propping its Xverse.

For those of you who didn't follow Fant4stic closely, I'll give you one (of hundreds) examples of why I believe Simon Kinberg is absolutely terrible.

Ben Grimm / The Thing is my favorite Marvel character of all time. Here's an excerpt from Marvel Wiki detailing some of Ben's backstory:

Benjamin J. Grimm was born on Yancy Street on Manhattan's Lower East Side, where he grew up in poverty. His father, an alcoholic, was unable to hold a job. Much of the family's income came from Grimm's older brother, Daniel, who obtained funds illegally as leader of the Yancy Street Gang. Grimm, who idolized his brother, became embittered against the world when Daniel was killed in a battle between rival gangs. Grimm was only eight years old at the time. Within ten years, he had succeeded his brother as leader of the Yancy Street Gang. After his parents died, Grimm was taken in by his Uncle Jake, who had risen from poverty to become a successful physician. At first, Grimm resisted his new guardians' kindness toward him. But eventually, he came to return their love. He left his life with the Yancy Street Gang behind, entered high school, and became a football star there. While he was a senior at Stuyvesant High School, Ben received a football scholarship to State University in Hegeman, New York.[6] On the football field, Ben received the nickname "Grimm Reaper."

Of course anyone who saw the movie knows that everything about Ben's background and character were crumpled up and thrown out the window. Instead of being from the Lower East Side, he was from Long Island. Instead of being caught up with gangs and idolizing his older brother who ended up dead as a result of gang activity, he was abused by his older brother (who was a mindless jerk). Instead of being a burly football player, he was a small guy who didn't have the size to play football. Instead of dealing with his problems with a self-effacing sense of humor, he had no personality. Instead of having a heart-of-gold beneath a gruff exterior, he used his super-strength to mercilessly kill people for the government etc. etc. etc.

All that is bad enough and inexcusable, but the worst part was Kinberg's smug explanation of why he made these changes and how he thought his character was "more interesting" than the iconic character that fans have loved for over 50 years.

The change of Jamie as Ben being a smaller guy instead of a bigger guy, for example, was for a purpose," he said. "It's more dramatic when that character becomes a huge rock creature – that's a bigger transformation. The notion of a working-class tough guy who's been pushed around by his bigger brothers his whole life seemed like a more interesting character than the guy who started as a football player and just ended up being 4 inches taller.

It remains to be seen how he'll make the X-Men "more interesting" but it's frightening to think about where his tiny mind could take us.

Professor X is secretly a serial killer? Jean Grey's parents were really mole people from the Earth's crust? Storm is a Kardashian?

Now that you put it out like that, how did Fox get away with it? They literally gave up the rights to Ego so they could change Negasonic's powers. How were they able to change so much on FF? Those changes are at least as significant as Negasonic's in deadpool.

I'm not asking for Kinberg to say anything. But for all the speculation this thread has had on Marvel Studios supposedly getting the F4 back in exchange for Fox getting more control of the X-Men, the supposed surprise reveal of the F4 appearing in Phase 4 of the MCU...that doesn't seem to be the case right now.

Which now begs the speculation of what Marvel Studios might have gotten, if not the First Family.

Money.

If FoX could get Ka-Zar, Shana, Moon-Boy, Devil Dinosaur, & The Savage Land I think that'd be a good trade.

I don't think Marvel will be giving up rights to any of their characters, just slowly taking them back.

Of course, we'll probably see Fox working on a project with the working title "Family Jewels" because they think they have the balls to release another FF movie.

If Fox releases another FFINO movie, it will be boycotted so hard I will personally crowd fund Money to pay my local theatres NOT to play the movie

You never know. Marvel preferred Galactus & Silver Surfer over Daredevil & Elektra and wanted to trade/extend.

Savage Land or Department H would be easy trade chips from them.

So Kinberg also had this to say about another FF movie:

http://comicbook.com/2017/02/24/20th-century-fox-stills-plans-on-a-great-fantastic-four-movie/

"Yes, we would love to make another Fantastic Four movie," Kinberg said. "We feel like there's a great Fantastic Four movie to be made and I think it would hue closer to the tone of the original, the source material, the comics, but we want to make that movie."

Brad Bird would be a much better choice to direct a Fantastic Four film than Kinberg. Why can't he do it?

I feel like Fantastic Four is just clickbait fodder at this point for interviews with Simon Kinberg and the other cast members.

If I'm not mistaken he helped write the first film as well.

Yeah, so they can hold on to the rights and make money. Which won't happen anytime soon.

Kinberg is so clueless about what fans want and what audiences would want in a Fantastic Four movie. In so many words he says that Fox will not make another Fantastic Four movie until they know it will be 100% perfect. Then he goes on to say how the cast was so great as if he would choose to move forward with the same group of actors. To me that is a contradiction, because I don't see any way a great Fantastic Four movie could be made with that cast. They are all way too young, and now that it has been tainted, there is no chance. Yet he speaks of it as if it is his dream team and his wish to get them back.Well Simon we have had 3 previous strikes against Fox with bad Fantastic Four movies, and your thoughts on what would equate to a good Fantastic Four film does not inspire much confidence. If Fox continues down the path with Fantastic Four it is guaranteed to fail. At this point it matters little even if they churned out a good Fantastic Four film. People have been burn't too many times and it is hard to regain that trust. So even with a good film I think it would not do well. At this point I think it is a conclusion that it will revert to the MCU, unless FOX just tries to hang on to the rights to spite Marvel. Basically, just creating a cheap crappie movie with the sole purpose of right retainment. However, then that once again goes against what Kinberg is saying about Fox will not make it unless done perfect. Making it yet again another contradiction.

Surfer

Idc about any of that. They aren't rebooting so no sensible director is touching this continuity. I refuse to support another Singer film (They may be good films but it's not X-MEN IMO). So Kinberg it is. Just give me the costumes from the end of X6 kick out Lawrence, Fassbender, Jackman, & Singer Directing set it in my favorite X-MEN era of 90's and I'll take what I can get

Good. Then Fassbender can join the rest of the talented actors Marvel has in their stable as soon as they get FF back. I'll bet no one has to guess who he'd play.

He is a kick @$$ actor and Fox would be the poorer for losing him. Though FoXmen is in trouble IMO anyway.
