I watch B&R whenever I'm in a bad mood.

It really is a hysterical film when you take it for what it is.

It's a [blackout]cool[/blackout] film. Dont give it the [blackout]cold[/blackout] shoulder just because its not grim dark.

As an adaption of 50's/60's Batman, and the Adam West TV show, B&R is an amazing film.

The thing about BF is this... that movie actually ended up influencing the comics. I mean, the Robin suit from the end of BF was inspired by Tim Drake's suit but then later after Infinite Crisis Tim's costume ends up a blend of the BTAS Tim Drake Robin costume and the BF Robin suit that had Bat stuff all over it.

I watched Batman Forever a couple days ago. Of the old bat films its actually my favorite. Honestly, if they just changed Riddler into a more serious character, and if Two Face didnt keep flipping the coin, and was a bit more serious, i think bat fans would all love the film

Agreed, the biggest problem was the villains in BF. They got Bruce/Bats pitch perfect.

Am I sure about what? Your link shows that B89 was the highest grossing Bat-film until TDK. That's what I said in my above post.

But, like I said, I do think BF get's some unfair flack, simply because it gets grouped with B&R, when it's not nearly as bad.

Sorry, Flu Brain yesterday was not thinking straight. I managed to both agree and disagree with people in the same sentence at the same time.

BF, though not what I wanted from a Batman film certainly did get people's attention. Me personally, I was sitting next to my bud Tony in the movie theater and Two Face was chasing the batmobile. I turned to my fr4iend and said, "If that car drives up the wall I'm leaving." Then I got up and left.

TDK suit was way too complicated looking.

One of the best comedies of its time. :awesome:

If that were true, then I would love B&R, but I don't. The difference, I think, is that the 60s TV show was plain and innocent silly fun with a good smattering of tongue-in-cheek dialogue to amuse mum and dad; B&R is a really cynical attempt to create a merchandising juggernaut stuffed full of pointless special effects, wasted star power, and the dumbest of possible scripts.

I hate it. I really do.

Yeah, B&R is a failure on almost every level, including as a comedy. The only thing that keeps it afloat is Schwarzenegger, and to a lesser extent, Thurman. They're the only two actors that seem to understand what type of movie they're in.

Michael Gough adds pathos that is utterly out of place in such a tasteless freakshow, and it just makes me feel sorry for him. He's a classy actor, and he deserves better. Clooney, O'Donnell, and ESPECIALLY Silverstone are bland as buttermilk.

What makes the Adam West tv show so enjoyable is the indellible charisma of Adam West and the gleefully unhinged performances by Romero, Meredith, Gorshin, etc. They're magnetic. Clooney and Co failed completely in capturing that magnetism. They're just utter bores, lost in a sea of neon.

That's the movie's biggest fault - it's BORING. Forever is fun. Forever gets it, just like the Adam West show got it. Fun, pop Batman is okay. With the exception of Arnie's scenes, B&R just isn't fun. The motorcycle race might be the most unengaging sequence I've ever seen in a film. NO ONE CARES ABOUT BARBARA'S WILD LIFE. GET BACK TO THE ICE PUNS.

I actually thought Uma's performance as Ivy, fit very well (along with Carrey) as the modern ilk of the Adam West villains. But yes, everything else was a travesty of devastating proportions. B&R is the only Batman film I will refuse to see ever again.

Michael Gough was one of the highlights of Hammer Horror from the 50s-70s. It was tragic to see him floundering in B&R; like taking your grandfather to an especially seedy club.

This will sound a bit cheesy, but I think that B&R lacks even a tiny drop of love, from anyone involved in any stage of the production. It makes me feel dirty just thinking about it.

One small silver lining is that it is in some way fitting for Batman to be represented by both the best and the worst of comicbook movies.

I know, that's what actually surprised me. It still fails to be a -true- reflection of the 60s show, but it veers really close. I always wanted to see how a third film might have fared, something that's more in the line of Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Overtly campy, high on the kitsch, and maybe a step back to fabric-based costumes. Kurt Russell was rumoured for a 'Batman Triumphant', and I always thought that was what would happen. Oh well.

I recently got a copy of the old 1940s THE BATMAN serials in glorious b&w. And it seems to carry the same ironic idea that Schumacher had - it tries to be both funny and serious at the same time, and the result is just awkward. I haven't finished watching all the episodes yet but it's strange to think that this series inspired a bunch of counter-culture types in the 60s to come up with a light-parody of Batman, that eventually became so iconic and pop-cultural that superheroes and comic books have forever become defined by it. But anyway, yes Schumacher failed to carry on the tongue-in-cheek tradition, even though he went real close to it. What ruined the film wasn't the fact that it was campy, it was the fact that the film was poorly made.

It's strange because it seems as though that only the antagonists (Carrey, Jones, Arnold, Thurman) knew what they needed to do. The Batmen in both films were out of place. Kilmer was watching too much of the animated series and thought (foolish man that he is) that he could actually become the Dark Knight, and Clooney...well... he just didn't have the passion with which West did the part.

It's sad because the films had some of the best talent that Hollywood had to offer at the time.

I actually liked O'Donnell as Robin, but once again the heroes were too serious in it. Yes, I said it. The Schumacher movies are terrible because they took themselves too seriously.

Agreed  But I'll still watch it from time to time. I once tried watching it without the sound and some of the visual artwork was actually admirable. Well, almost.

This right here, is the truth. Though many bits of Forever still tries to be the dark Batman and just disrupts the flow. It was a confusing mix between the pathos-filled world of Tim Burton, and the neon-savvy ultra-violent world of Schumacher, while trying to harken back to the era of Adam West.

Though I think the -real- adaptation for the 60s Batman series was that XXX Porn Parody. Fun? Check. Cringing puns? Check. Goofy costumes? Check and UN:cwink:Check. :bh:

Neither Schumacher film really has the magic of the 60's show, but Forever is the lesser offender.

Nothing beats Batman ordering a goddamn orange juice from the bar in the first episode of the 60's show. Just... ordering an orange juice. Batman. So amazing.

Could you please stop mentioning the '66 series? I want to see each and every episode and it's still not out on DVD! You guys are making me jealous!

^Greece needs The Hub. Monday through Thursday at 11:30pm also known as 2330.

Woah, wait! I'm in Manchester right now. What is The Hub?

A glorious channel the features retro shows, which I recently discovered myself. It's in constant rotation and I'm pretty sure they have all the episodes. I've got my DVR set to record it every day and there's at least 4 new episodes I come home to ready to be watched.

While this is still off-topic in terms of the Bat-suit, I figured this would be relevant here. Just a look at how BATMAN FOREVER and THE DARK KNIGHT actors/characters differed/compared:
