I think WB should make sure it breaks all records even if they end up paying the difference from their pockets and wallets.

Do we have a chance to beat the avengers? I saw the avengers and loved it until i found out that it would break tdk domestic gross and push it to number 4 and now i hate it with a passion.

It all depends on its midnight number, needs at least around $35 million probably even more to do that.

And there's really no way this movie does those type of numbers. They'd be higher than every projection that I've seen and those projection sites have been pretty accurate. I don't get why TDKR needs to beat The Avengers, other than sheer stupid loyalty to a comic book company/movie studio who could also care less. People should just be happy that we're getting another great comic book movie this year.

I always go by boxoffice.com and intrade.com for box office tracking.

Intrade is pretty accurate with movies and sometimes spot on. Both websites are currently tracking at $190 Million for the July 20th-July 22nd opening weekend. Intrade.com has 'Rises' having a 55.5% chance of crossing the $200 million mark for its opening.

No, it certainly isn't.

The Avengers is just like Peter Jackson's LOTR: just a competent if unimaginative management of strong commercial property. There's nothing really wrong with it, but I don't think anyone other than Marvel comic fans will remember it in a decade's time.

The LOTR will be remembered by the virtue of the sheer number of technical innovations they pioneered. Neither the Avengers or Nolan's films can make that claim. Both of which are popcorn blockbusters aimed at the lowest common denominator. One simply takes itself more seriously than the other. I just don't see now one will be a film while the other fluff.
