Doesn't that still have to do with how early and strong the marketing is? If the movie is marketed early on, then people would be aware of the movie even if it hasn't been brought up. At least that's how I interpreted that. How strong and popular the earlier trailers were factor into that I think.

i hope it grosses at least $550 million domestic. This means the newer movie is more succesful than the previous one ie... BB < TDK < TDKR.

The lord of the rings performed this way...and it would be good if TDKR follows similar trend (hope it gets more than TDK domestic)

Based on the data AMC provided, I'm coming up with around $1.5m to $1.7m in pre-sales for AMC so far. Considering AMC's 13% screen count in the North American market, that would be around $11.5m to $13m in total domestic pre-sales at the moment.

Just bought my tickets for the 10.20 morning show on JUly 21st t:
Interesting though that just like with TDK , TDKR got the equivalent of the R rating here in Holland.
Not that it was a problem when TDK came out because i really do remember not being able to get tickets ....again and again because so many people wanted to see the movie.

No one said it had $150m in pre-sales. That is a prediction of what it might make for the entire weekend. There isn't a single movie that has ever pulled off $150m prior to release. Harry Potter 8 was the biggest pre-seller ever and it had $25m by the Tuesday before its release. Then it made another $7m over the next 24 hours to reach $32m on the Wednesday before its release. Not sure how much more it made prior to its midnight release around 36 hours later, but it damn sure wasn't $118m to reach $150m in pre-sales.

I think this was a case of speculations and info being passed on from one site to another. HuffPo posted an article saying that TDKR could beat TA based on the LAT article about the tracking. And then some sites picked up on HuffPo's article and added some figures.

People are morons to report it like that. Pre-sale record is $32m by Potter as of the Wednesday before its release, although it was making $7m per day in its final week before release. So that means it would have finished around $40-45m in pre-sales by the time midnight showings started. Problem is they didn't issue a report on it Thursday afternoon to at least give us an update before the walk-up sales started in the evening.

The Avengers will probably beat this only because of 3D, honestly i didn't feel like there was HUGE hype leading up into the opening of Avengers a week before,

Yes, I don't see TDKR beating The Avengers' box office wise because of that. We'll see, though. But any way you look at it, TDKR is bound to make a lot of money for a non 3D film.
