The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion & Speculation Thread (NOT A LOUNGE) - - Part 57

I can't believe we're really entertaining this idea. Would Nolan really screen it this early?

Then again, this would be a way to get the hype machine started.

From "indiewire" article earlier in April:

"Friedman also suggests what we had said a couple of months ago: sorry Batnerds, no "The Dark Knight Rises" won't be flying to the south of France. The same rumors were kicked around for "Inception" a couple of years ago, and simply put, even though Christopher Nolan recently showed a rough cut to Warner Bros., the franchise is valued on its secrecy and there is no way in hell they are showing this two months early. Not gonna happen." :csad:

So much for speculation and wishful thinking I suppose.. I hope though, that Nolan surprises all the skepticals (me including) and shows up in Cannes BUT just for the first 20 minutes or so of TDKR, as it's usual, not all of it! It would be such a pity to spoil it so early..

the problem with this post is that you are trying to make Nolan into a god. Nolan has a lot control at WB. WB is a studio.Nolan makes movie with that studio. but Nolan can not go to Cannes and tell them that they will screen his movie and that they will do what he wants. very different. very very different.

No, you got it wrong. I'm not trying to make him into anything. I'm just stating the obvious, which is: "Nolan knows what he's doing". By now, he's proven that he's not an amateur director. Pretty much all the actors who worked with him said the same thing - he's a guy who knows exactly what he wants, and he knows exactly what he's doing.

It doesn't matter how much control he has over WB, or how much control do they have over him. He's a confident director, and he has gained WB's respect. If he feels that his film should not be shown at Cannes, I'm quite sure it won't be.

Then again, this would be a way to get the hype machine started.
TDKR is the most hyped movie of the last 2-3 years. TDKR doenst need hype. to sacrifice the story details to add 10% more hype for a movie that will make 100% a big profit? :woot:

Funny little paragraph:
"And US film giant Warner Bros has made it known that its latest Batman movie - The Dark Knight Rises by Christopher Nolan, starring Marion Cotillard - is finished, well ahead of its July 19 release date".

It says STARRING Marion Cotillard... True, she's in it, yes. But WHY are they naming her as the only one? Shouldn't it have said, Starring Christian Bale? lame.

Since the film is finished, just imagine how great the final trailer will be (I hope).

Isn't the biggest complaint here that things are just too quiet on the marketing front? :funny:

People are deluded if they think Chris is actually going to bring TDKR to Cannes though. He's not going to do that. That doesn't feel like a Nolan decision to me because he's ssooooo weird about the film's secrecy.

No Chris wants the first time people to see this film on july 20th in IMAX if possible, no Cannes, No comic con.

Comic Con would be great surprise but there's just no way in hell :funny:

Yes.

Also, his stuff with Rachel about a day without Batman, and trying to kibosh her and Dent's dates seemed like he was selfishly trying to cling to the last fragments of his childhood. When Rachel told Bruce that "they wouldn't let us be together" after confiding in her his plan to reveal himself, she sounded as if she knew she were talking to a delusional man.

Nice nuance you spotted there. Still, the line's rather heartbreaking considering the circumstances it's said in and the way it's delivered.

Chris has been tooting the IMAX horn over 3d, he even gave us the first couple of minutes of his film to see, just to showcase the movie. He's not going to have the first public showing of his film on a regular screen.

The first screening will be in NYC, I bet.

He secretly screened things here at Lincoln center before. I wouldn't be surprised if he did it again. It's the biggest one in the country, it's got it's merits.

So, I just read the rumour about JGL/Blake being codenamed Azrael...

That's where it's from. Some user on there trying to convince everyone of it.

And they believe it.

I read it on some forum, but the poster didn't put the source.

On the subject of leaks and seeing a spoiler being totally down to the person choosing to see them.

The "Dumbledore Dies" banner escapade in the UK springs to mind.

People also trolled websites posting 'Snape kills Dumbledore. Page 606, totally true.' I was happy to be spoiled rotten for Half Blood Prince though, so I wasn't bothered.

If anyone does that for TDKR...:cmad:
