The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion & Speculation Thread (NOT A LOUNGE)

It's the right time to go... and I applaud Nolan for allowing this to be his swan song no matter how much money WB throws at him or how many of his original scripts they greenlight.

At least it won't end abruptly like the Raimi Spider-man franchise. We know we have a good thing and we have been allowed to savour it for 4 years.

I've enjoyed the ride.

Why is 3 always the magic number for movies? Sometimes I wonder if Nolan could've made it a 4 movie arc. Have another one right now and then save TDKR's story for the 4th.
Too true. Honestly, I know it's a touchy subject, but I've always been convinced that it's the death of Heath that hit home with Nolan and caused him to be set on the conclusion so soon. "Unlike the comics, these things can't go on forever in film" I believe he wanted to get his vision of this story over with before even more real world complications effected it, like say, Michael Caine biting the dust.

Guys, I wanted to ask you something about the camo-Tumblers.

So I get the three of them are different. One has the missile launcher, second is pretty much a tank, but what about the third one? Is it just a regular Tumbler, or there's something else about it?

Also, do you think they'll be able to leap like the one Batman has?

I like that the spacing of Nolan's Batman movies made this whole trilogy almost a decade.

That's a good point. And I guess part of it too is that the main cast (Bale, Oldman, Caine, Freeman) only signed on for 3 movies so doing a 4th means new contracts not only for Nolan but also for the cast and the upperhand won't definitely be on WB's part this time around.

It is kind of jarring though, considering how much time passes throughout the first and third film yet the second is only a year or two from where the first left off.

Many ancient Greek writers wrote trilogies. Not in the sense of a franchise, but the theme they touched on was completed in 3 plays. Hence the magic number "3". The director who's come very close to the mentality of a trilogy, but with the movies not being continuation to one another is Park Chan-wook with his "Vengeance" films.

It's funny because after TDKR's time jump, Bale's actual age is now closer to Bruce's in Nolan's Batman. Just swap his intense weight loss/gain with Bruce's crime fighting and his physical appearance is probably the closest representation of Bruce's aging in the story.

BB (shot in 2004) - Bruce (30), Bale (30)
TDK (shot in 2007) - Bruce (31), Bale (33)
TDKR (shot in 2011) - Bruce (39), Bale (37)

Actually, Bruce is still 30 in TDK - it takes place 6 months after the events of BB, in which Bruce just turned 30. Which means that he should be 38 in TDKR. Bale himself is now 38, so at the time we watch the film, both Bruce and Bale will be at the same age.

Actually isn't it 6 months to a whole year after Begins? But about Nolan doing another movie before he tackled this story..I understand it wouldnt of been smart incase Freeman or Caine had health issues or god forbid passed away. It's perfect timing. Like he said anyway, he wasnt gonna do a watered down Joker after just doing TDK. Another "crime film" with the riddler or penguin or black mask as the lead villain. Just wouldnt be very fresh i dont think. VERY happy he chose to end the story..pushing it 8 years into the future, set mostly in winter, a whole different vibe, more physical war kinda theme. Its goddamn awesome

Im glad its 3 films, most won't agree with me but i think TDK is better than BB and i think (hope) TDKR will be the best, making a trilogy that gets better each film is very rare, I'd hate to see the franchise start going downwards on a 4th or 5th film.

I agree with this.:yay:

BB wasn't that apealing to me when it first came out but it grew on me. Still think TDK is loads better though.

The one in the trailer is a cannon, the less famous one is the missile launcher.

I don't know about leaping, it'll be very interesting to see how they are introduced.
They removed the aerodynamic flaps (used in the rooftop jump scene) from the modified side of the tumblers, but kept them on the other side, which seems pretty weird...

I disagree.

While I think TDK is better in certain ways, I think BB is still better.

BB just feels like Batman while much to often, espcially upon first viewing, did I feel that it was just a guy in a batman costume fighting crime rather than Batman when I watch TDK.

No, most would agree with you. The Dark Knight has generally garnered much more acclaim than Batman Begins in most circles, discounting a somewhat vocal minority. In fact, it's the love of the previous film that stands as the biggest obstacle to TDKR achieving the "best in trilogy" status.

I know I'm gonna cry like a baby when Rises ends. Nolan has taken very good care of my favorite character in comics. He made Batman cool again. This might sound shallow, but I stared at the first Rises teaser poster I have hanging on my wall, and I almost broke into tears. Not gonna lie. The image of Gotham crumbling to the ground and the Bat-Symbol rising in the sky, is a powerful image. It says everything about this film.

Oh no... BB bashing... make it stop, please make it stop :(

You're in luck, because this statement will hold true whether The Dark Knight Rises is the best or the worst film ever made.

Claiming that a series got better as it went along is not bashing the original film.

I think BB is better than TDK but I hope TDKR is better than BB

The thing that I find the funniest among posters is how they wish Nolan never came to the batman films, because somehow the so-called realism has ruined the character. That seems to be one of the newer themes that, once the dark knight rises comes out, will probably be said by multiple posters.

I thought both films were great and the best part is, its not some competition that I have to like one film more than the other. BB is a great origin story film.

I see it more and more often on the internet this constant competition with everything. If a film is not great its somehow considered garbage.

The batman series prior to 2005 was in ruins, hopefully it doesn't go back to that.

At the same time, there's nothing wrong with having a preference. Nor is expressing your preference automatically condemning the alternative.

I like The Dark Knight better than Batman Begins. Batman Begins is still my second favourite film in this genre. It's an all-timer; a really great movie.

I just love this trilogy. Simple as.
