I saw TDK on opening night. I'll never forget it... when the credits started rolling, the entire theater, myself included, gave the film a standing ovation. It was
that good. The reactions of the audience were nearly perfect. We laughed in all the right places, jumped in the right place, gasped in the right place, and even cried in all the right places... with the exception of Rachel's death, that is...
And the standing ovation was not just clapping... it was outright cheering from a few people at
least. Thinking back on it now is giving me the chills and putting tears in my eyes just like it did then. and even cooler,
everyone stayed for the credits. At least from what I saw, not a single person left until the credits finished rolling and the lights came back on.
I honestly
loved Batman Begins. It had its flaws, and I never liked Rachel., but the movie was brilliant. I was so pumped to see Batman returned to his former glory and done, at least as I saw it, "right". So when I heard about The Dark Knight, I flipped. My bar was already set really high, and TDK beat it.
I'm expecting TDKR to reach the bar I set after seeing Begins, because if I let my expectations of it get to the height they were after TDK, TDKR will most likely fail in my eyes. I would love it if TDKR is better than TDK, but I'm expecting it to be better than BB.
I know I'm going to cry once the credits roll on TDKR, but I must admit... I'm
seriously hoping it garners a standing ovation from audience I'm part of, just like TDK did.
How long do you guys think we will and/or should get the next Batman film?
Like Spider-Man, I think they should wait at least 5 years, so 2017 or later. I'd like WB and DC to deliver the entire Superman trilogy before going to back to Batman. Making a better Green Latern, Wonder Woman, and The Flash would be great too.
I imagine it won't be that long of a wait, because, unless I'm much mistaken, DC wants to do with the Justice League what Marvel is doing with The Avengers. I think they originally wanted to use Bale as Batman in it, which is going to be the source of my biggest sadness at the end of TDKR (I'd really rather they use Nolan and Bale instead of rebooting the whole thing for Justice League, but it'll be what it'll be), but I'm honestly not sure if Nolan's Batman would work in a setting like Justice League, unless Justice League is
very dark. Besides, I'm not sure how Superman and Wonder Woman and the Green Lantern and the Martian and such would work juxtaposed with Nolan's "realism"...
