So I can't take seriously anyone here who is anticipating The Dark Knight Rises yet will pass The Avengers off as mindless hollywood action.

That's all the Avengers trailer was though. Awesome one-liners aren't going to make me more invested in the film, unfortunately.

This isn't the Avengers forum either. The preference here is clear.

I loved the The Avengers trailer. Looks like 129% pure cheesy action fun.

But The Dark Knight Rises is something different. As The Dark Knight was not only a cool and fun superhero movie but most of all just a brilliant movie overall. One of my favorites of all time. The other Marvel movies have been fun and entertaining but hasn't struck me on anywhere near the same emotional, visually striking and overall cinematic level as TDK or even BB.

I actually just read a comment implying that craze fans (like us) wanted a film like TDK for bragging rights. :whatever:

Anywho, The Avengers should be a film with action and cheesy fun but the film should also have a layer of substance.

That's the problem with fandom - the lack of perspective due to a 'Us Vs. Them' mentality.

Well of course I'm more excited for TDKR. I wouldn't be as hopeful about Avengers if it wasn't for Whedon

Exactly. I mean, I prefer DC comics but I'm a fan of both DC and Marvel.

I hate this DC vs. Marvel crap. It only causes unnecessary tension and flame wars between fans alike.

As a fan of both cinematic universes I always feel shamed going into one board or the other and seeing that mentality shift one way. At the end of the day I'm planning on seeing both movies, because I love all these characters, we're lucky to even have these films, Nolan is doing his thing, Marvel is doing theirs, can't we all just get along?

Yes, the trailer was nice, but to me it will depend on the storyline of the movie or it will be another Michael Bay type of a movie where action scenes is more important than the storyline.

I like Marvel, I like D.C.

As comics and characters I lean to Marvel more.

In Films I lean to D.C. a bit more, mostly because of Nolan's work. Avengers looks like a pop-corn film (maybe) Good time.

Thor nearly put me to sleep; I don't want to see another movie like Thor ever again.

The Trailer doesn't really show this movie has any plot; I look forward to something that implies there's a cohesive story to Avengers.

Hate that, its everywhere now to not just here. I was looking into upgrading my cell phone and all it is on every site is iphone vs android fans trash talking back and forth and cant get any useful information out of it

I'm excited for Rises and Avengers and will be there for both at midnight. But Whedon is nowhere near anything close to a reason I'm excited. Only decent things he's done in my opinion are Roseanne and Dr. Horrible.

He's said time and time again that it's a movie about family. The story of the movie isn't "LOOK AT ALL THE ACTION FIGURES, THEY'RE IN A MOVIE TOGETHER NOW!" It's a movie about "How do these guys learn to get along and form a team? How do they find a common goal and learn to become brothers?"

A quote from Joss Whedon. There will be depth to this movie. Anyone who is passing off on Avengers just for the sake of passing off on it...please reevaluate your thoughts, please.

Can't some of you just be excited and happy for projects from both comic companies...Jesus Christ.

Well anyone can say that...Like I said I'm going to see it but aside from some rhetoric why would I believe this movie is going to have story?

Michael Bay spent hours explaining to us how Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen had a story.

again: I Will see Avengers I just felt the trailer was a lot of nothing. Plenty of Action a minute implication of story.

Well good. Like others have said, I'm also excited for both films.

Just stop hating on all the Avengers love though.

Because, God forbid, if TDKR isn't what people anticipate it to be or if it ends up being mediocre...while Avengers punches Batman in the face then all this Avengers hate from some of you will be hilarious to look back on.

I hope the best for both movies...Spider-Man too. This could be one of the greatest blockbuster years of all time. Some of you people just need to stop being all high and mighty on Batman when the movie could possibly be okay or worse. So much damn ignorance.

**** like this just ticks me off.

I'm excited for Avengers , TDKR, and ASM . Then again , i'm a fan of all of those characters so i'm not into the whole Marvel vs DC junk.

I liked Spider-Man 2 and X-men 2, but it's been all downhill since then, with the exception of the first Iron Man, which was good but not SM2 or X2 good. The Avengers trailer impressed me less than TDKR teaser trailer which I think was rushed to make Harry Potter. I'm not impressed by bickering superheroes (reminded me of the first X-men film with Wolverine and Cyclops) and explosions anymore.

No one is passing on anything... but the teaser showed me nothing that I haven't seen before.

As and characters I to Marvel more.

In Films I D.C. a bit more, mostly because of Nolan's work. Avengers looks like a pop-corn film (maybe) Good time.

The Trailer doesn't really show this movie has any plot; I look forward to something that implies there's a cohesive story to Avengers.

I think the reason for the trailer looking like that was to appeal to people who liked mindless action, saving the story explanation for the next trailer. Disney's clever with their marketing. I mean, they got Pirates 3 to make tons of money. Hell, even Cars 2 made 550 mil, and it's considered Pixar's worst movie.

I lean towards Marvel myself, for films. Outside of Batman, DC hasn't really done honestly anything good in the past decade that the public actually took notice of. Catwoman, Jonah Hex, Green Lantern, etc, or particularly financially successful besides arguably Superman Returns.

Yeah, Nolan's Batman films are good, but that's not because of DC, that's because A: Great actors. B: Great visual style. and C: Batman's already massive popularity. Batman was a popular superhero long before the film came out. The thing is, though, DC has only made two superheroes into good films: Superman and Batman. They then proceeded to run BOTH of those franchises straight into the ground after a popular, well-received sequel.

I don't mean to sound like I'm trolling, but Marvel just seems to have better control of what they're doing. Sure they can play it safe a lot, but that's because the whole concept of building up to the Avengers is completely ruined if even one of the films fails financially.

The thing is, Batman can support himself because he's Batman, save the few cases where someone screws him up to the point of almost TRYING to make it suck (1997 WB, I'm looking at you). But they keep pulling him out over and over again to the point where even after TDK, I can't get really hyped for TDKR because even though it's a drastically different take on the characters, because I know that as long as the Batman films keep making big hits the rest of the DC characters suffer as a result. Hell, the only reason the Batfilms are good was because WB didn't try to interfere with Nolan like they did with Schumacher.

I mean, sure it's Batman and he's awesome, but it's like 'Oh. DC's making another Batman film. AGAIN.'

With Marvel, there's an actual shot for these characters. Iron Fist, Guardians of the Galaxy, even the ****ing Inhumans have been rumored to get a film. Hell, it's heavily rumored Doc Strange will get the first slot for the 2014 schedule. DC has great heroes, so why aren't characters like Wonder Woman or Aquaman (attitude from JL/JLU + Gold/orange Atlantean armor= ****ing GOLD!), or hell, even Wonder Woman, one of DC's big three and the most recognizable female superhero!

I was excited for Green Lantern for a long while, because I thought it meant finally WB/DC were getting their **** together and trying something new for once, finally making a Supehero film that isn't related to Superman or Batman.

And then I heard a Hawkman film was being written, I was even happier, because it meant they were actively exploring other heroes for films, which they hadn't done before...really ever.

Aaaand then GL failed and Hawkman was never heard about again.

I just can't feel that it'll justify DC just not giving a **** about it's other heroes. It certainly doesn't seem Batman is going to help bring smaller heroes to the screen like Iron Man did.

I'm dumbfounded by your claim. When did anyone 'hate' on The Avengers?

Yeah, and sadly you do see that type of attitude everywhere. The Avengers trailer got me really excited for the movie, and i hadnt really seen much before the trailer, i just knew there was a movie with that name getting made lol, so that's another movie i'll be checking out in 2012 for sure :woot:

UK members should get this...

I like TDKR and i like Avengers... but which one is better? there's only one way to find out....

FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!!

See, even judged solely as a mindless cut meant for the lowest common denominator, it failed to captivate me. As many have pointed out, there wasn't a single instance in that footage that was mind-blowing or unique from all the other big blockbusters we've had. The sense of scale was not big, nor were the characters. For a property that's been building up for quite some time now, with far longer anticipation from the fanbase -- they really should have knocked it out of the park. The film may very well meet expectations, but I can only judge what I've seen. Compare these 2 minutes with any of the trailers from Transformers. Pretty big difference in spectacle and setting up a summer event.

Forget if Avengers is better, I'm guessing if TDKR makes under 800 mil people will be ****ing murdered.

Oh cool, I didn't know The Avengers were going to be in TDKR. :oldrazz:
