This movie looks like it will be a bleaker world than ever. I just hope Nolan and co. doesn't lose that sense of fun and the perfectly balanced comic-relief.
Because that's one of the things I think these films do so great where other comic-book movies fail. Either the comic-relief is too silly, unintentional andcringe-inducing or the movies are just not fun at all and take themselves too seriously.
I mean I still to this day smile and laugh at some of the lines and scenes in BB and TDK. Just some examples:
Alfred Pennyworth: I suppose they'll lock me up as well. As your accomplice...
Bruce Wayne: Accomplice? I'm going to tell them the whole thing was your idea.
....................
Maitre D: Sir, the pool is for decoration, and your friends do not have swimwear.
Bruce Wayne: Well, they're European.
Maitre D: I'm going to have to ask you to leave.
[Bruce starts to write a check]
Maitre D: It is not a question of money.
Bruce Wayne: [gives him the check] Well, you see, I'm buying this hotel, and uh, setting some new rules about the pool area.
........................
Jim Gordon: [trying to escape slums] I'll get my car.
Batman: I brought mine.
Jim Gordon: Yours?
[Batmobile blasts out and races by]
Jim Gordon: I've got to get me one of those.
....................
Alfred: The Lamborghini then, much more subtle...
....................
Not to mention all those fun Q/Bond-esque moments between Lucius and Wayne. I hope stuff like this doesn't get lost in too much bleakness. I want some nice playboy persona Wayne, sarcastic one-liner Alfred and so on.
