The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - - - Part 152

The New Year is upon us. I am feeling the atmosphere in my bones and stuff.

I never said it did. You said initially that the criticisms don't matter because we can't make a film. But I contested that. Implying that it is ridiculous. You don't have to be any good at an area of art to have valid criticisms of it.

Nobody said he wouldn't.

I have settled down with the movie's mediocrity.

Appeal to popularity logical fallacy. Why don't we look at Transformers? I guess they are good films too.

That is a simplistic statement. Even most of the glowing reviews noted its faults even if their impact on the film differed from critic to critic.

That goes for the criticisms too. Being thirty years old doesn't prevent Return of the Jedi from still being criticized. And TDKR will still be criticized in 2042 too.

I never really said those things. You´re just making things up. I simply said it seems it makes people feel special and smart and that there´s nothing difficult or special about modifying an existing story. The real challenge is to create one from scratch. Then i said these little unoriginal ideas that get thrown around aren´t worth a damn thing, because in fact, they aren´t.

And every movie has faults. What´s your point, exactly? I really don´t understand.

You didn't say it directly, but you strongly alluded to it.

Yap.

And i think it makes people feel smart. They point out mistakes and come up with new little ideas for that story, and it probably makes them feel like they could´ve done a better job than Nolan.

"What about this idea? And this one? Isn´t this cool? This ending would have been soooooo much better"

Congratulations. Now go write a script better than Rises. You will fail and i will laugh. Happy new year.

The last line strongly hints at it. They prolly can't write a better script than Rises, so their complaints mean nothing.

The real challenge is to create one from scratch.

To be fair, Nolan is adapting several assorted stories from the comics here. Hardly a Pulp Fiction.

Furthermore, he used the aggressively cliched ticking bomb climax after the excellent moral play in TDK. Hardly creative or inspiring.

Then i said these little unoriginal ideas that get thrown around aren´t worth a damn thing, because in fact, they aren´t.

I liked a lot of the ideas thrown around. Maybe they seemed poor because they were only snippets. With further elaboration, they could stand on their own.

I am sure even some of the amateurs could've come up with something better than a rehashed LOS plot.

That´s your personal interpretation, wich is wrong.

He is certainly not taking a complete story and changing only the ending or only a couple of elements, wich is what people on this forum often do.

I am sure even some of the amateurs could've come up with something better than a rehashed LOS plot.

At the end of the day, Nolan is doing something about it, they´re not. At the end of the day, that´s all speculation, since none of the amateurs you´re talking about has actually come up with anything better than the Rises script. And hey, they´re free to do it. I like creative people. Nolan made a very low budget movie that was smart and awesome. Nobody just threw 200 M dollars at him. He started from the bottom. Anybody can try to do the same. If these amateurs are so passionate about writing and filmmaking, and if they really have such amazing ideas, they should go for it.

This upcoming June will be the 10th anniversary of Batman Begins. Holy crap, where did the time go, guys?

Terrifying. :csad:

The Dark Knight will be making it's UK terrestrial/Network TV premiere tonight on ITV at 9PM.

It only took them six and a half years. :hehe:

Funny how they gave BB all the time on ITv1 & 2.

10 years. I feel old. I remember it like it was yesterday. The two things that really struck me when I left that movie was:

1. Batman being the focal character who was actually developed

2. Jim Gordon having an actual personality and significant role in the story. Not to mention a proper friendship with Batman.

After the previous four Batman movies which were lacking in these aspects, this was really awesome to see as a Batman fan. Oh and the tease for the Joker at the end really left me buzzing.

I was on such a Batman high after seeing BB. Me and my friends were texting each other checking if everyone has already seen the "new Batman movie". I also remember that the first thing I did after I got back from the theater was to check if there will be a sequel.

I remember being on a "Batman high" from purposefully getting my friends to see a movie I knew would have the BB trailer attached.

Begins changed my life. I would not be the person I am now without Begins, it started me on new paths of comic/sci fi fandom and new friends and then confidence of trying new things and travelling to new places.

Same here and this:

and I was like :wow::wow::wow::wow:

I'm with everything you all just said about Batman Begins. Started to read comics again. Became a DIE-HARD Batman fan instead of a general admirer of Batman. Plus, seeing Liam Neeson was awesome as well and has since made me want to see him in as much as possible. Plus, Ra's outlook changed me as well and I honestly see the world from the same perspective.

I was glad I caught Batman Begins in the theater...granted it was the dollar theater. :o
But it was back then when movies and comic books wasn't a high priority for me. After seeing Batman Begins it blew my mind, it was like nothing I've seen before in the genre, it beat my favorite comic book movie at the time Spider-Man 2 by a mile.

Yeah I'd argue Batman Begins turned us all back into comic book fans. For I stopped reading comics probably in middle school. Not so much I grew out of them, but got more interests and doing other things. Plus, was having trouble keeping up to date. But still watched the cartoons and played the games usually. Though I would always revisit my old comics.
Then Begins came out and I had to start buying and collecting comics again.

That first hour of the film was a revelation. I really couldn't believe they let Nolan make a "comic book" movie with that much attention to detail and gave the hero an extremely hefty character arc. And this is all before he even puts the suit on!

Like others mentioned above, Batman Begins was the Genesis for me to get back into comics (for a short while) and back into the superhero genre. It had awakened something in me that I hadn't experienced since I was a kid and watched the original Star Wars Trilogy.
I'd have to say that the primary I loved this movie is that it had Batman center stage. I loved seeing Ras, and I've always loved Scarecrow, but I finally got a film where it wasn't all about the bad guy. Batman is one of the coolest characters in comics, and finally someone had recognized that and gave him his due.

Highlights was the turning of the joker card, but more importantly the 'dock scene". Seeing Batman as this frightening creature in the shadows was something I had waited forever to see.

"The things they say about him....can he really fly?"

"I heard he can disappear"

"Well, we'll find out. Won't we?"

So much win in that scene.
