Heath's legacy was never in any jeopardy regardless. He has been immortalized in the grand hall of iconic movie villains.

WTF? I dont like it...sort of..

But, i still have high hopes that once i see Leto act, working with Harley Quinn, and wearing the white suit..ill be good with it. I think we'll see him in Arkham without a shirt, with the tattoos at first. The actual face tat is dumb as f**k to be honest, but the rest of the tat's are fine because they will be covered up.

So i guess Ledger was punk rock. Leto is..goth? I mean it has a punk feel, but it's extreme so im not sure if i can call it that. I like the HaHA's but not the rest. He also seems to have a huge tat on his stomach, plus more on his back. It definitely seems to be a bit much but at the same time, why wouldn't Joker get some tattoo's? But the teeth?

I agree with the peeps who say it's not clownish at all. He looks more like a punk rock...biker freak or something lol.

Hopefully he's covered in the Batman movie.

So uh...Frank Miller doing a third DK book. Umm...
Im excited because he's doing it with Brian Azzarello.

Good lord did they make a huge misfire with Leto's Joker look. I mean we all pre-judged Ledger's first pic, but his was a close up shot of just his face, it didn't even show his green hair, or purple suit or anything.

This Leto one shows him bare chested, covered in tattoos, complete with one on his forehead that says damaged as if we need that spelled out about Joker, not to mention a friggin' tear drop tattoo on his face, too, and he's got silver front teeth, wearing one purple glove and one bare hand. It's like someone from a Joker themed punk rock band.

If appearances are anything to go by I think it's safe to say Heath's legacy as Joker is not in any jeopardy of being one upped.
I think all The Jokers(plus Hamil) have a huge legacy. But this? Leto is going to have to do something so monumental that it'll get us to forget about that ugly face tattoo....and grill.

And to think, I was talking about how I rather have a purple suit than the white one from the spy pics. :funny:

People judged Ledger and his performance before they saw the movie, AFTER the first reveal even..

I won't completely judge him. He's a great actor and im sure it's very freaky and flamboyant like the Miller interpretation. But it's obviously pushed to the extreme. The face tat, the teeth, k fine even the other tattoo's are stupid.

Im positive that we will only see the bulk of this in Suicide Squad (which won't be where he leaves his legacy-that will be when he meets the Batman). But i can't get over how hard David Ayer is trying. I would have preferred something ******ed like "Cockerspaniel" or "Fruit Roll Ups!" on his forehead than "damaged". If that's not trying too hard, im not sure what is.

He looks like he could walk into Sons of Anarchy and be a weirdo antagonist who runs a weird little motorcycle gang and gets killed off at the end of the season. Thankfully we'll have the magnificent Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn to balance him out and hopefully a good performance. Im not sure about his voice though. If he's using that voice from his concerts, then that didn't impress me.

Wow...that is awful.

I actually liked the glimpse we got of him in the white suite from the leaked pics, but man this is fugly. Yikes. I mean, I don't anticipate Joker being shirtless throughout the movie so I'm assuming the body tats will be mostly covered for the most part, but we won't be able to look at his face without seeing the corny "Damaged" tattoo on his forehead and we won't be able to see him laugh or smile without seeing that grill. I can only hope the cinematography does him so favors, because I literally hate that picture right now and I'm not usually one to get bent out of shape about this kinda stuff. Hoping for the best performance wise.

Facepaint FTW! LOL

I'm guessing that his look reflects the Suicide Squad tone they're going for. At least I hope so because it could be very fitting, and if not, they ****ed up.

It's just the wrong pic to show us. I would have been fine if we got the full suit and you got a glimpse of the face tat with a smile that doesn't show any teeth. It would make us go COOOL and hmm? with the face tat but still a very positive response. Then i would probably be OK with seeing him in his cell, in the movie, without a shirt. Weird angles that show a bunch of tat's before he puts on a jumpsuit. Or him smiling and we see the teeth. Ease us into it.

But this is like WE'RE CONTROVERSIAL! THIS IS THE NEW JOKER IN ALL HIS GLORY! THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO EXPECT! OUR JOKER IS FULL OF TATTOO'S, HE'S COOL, HE'S FREAKY AND HIP, LOOK AT HIS GRILLZZZ, LOOK AT EACH TATTOO, HE'S A FREAK!

Nah, I say its better to do it all at once. Like a bandaid, right off!

Not feeling it in any way whatsoever. It's as if they took the edginess of Ledger's look and cranked it up in a prison yard thug kind of way. There's nothing enticing about this look. It's scary but in a way that's trying too hard to be scary. I've always believed there needs to be something magnetic and entertaining with the Joker as a kind of compliment/counter to his malice and I'm not seeing that here. It's just... bad.

And I'll just copy/paste this from The Joker thread. This is one of my main complaints about it: And that's something that is so unsettlingly about it. He looks like a thug. The Joker isn't a thug, he's the one who orders thugs around. With this, he looks like someone who should be working for The Joker, but not the actual Goddamn Joker.

^ Somebody in that thread compared it to the look of the Nazi's versus the look of Neo-Nazi's.

... It's kind of a ****ed comparison, but it fits.

Yeah...I agree about the thug thing.

Actually, what really bugs me about the tats is they just aren't even that creative. Like, in my mind if The Joker was going to get tattoos they'd at least be bizarre and ironic, not so on-the-nose and obvious. This is as if if some punk kid did a lot of drugs while obsessing over the TDK virals, decided to get a bunch of tattoos and got himself in trouble.

You nailed it.

What's even worse about it is that they had a great opportunity to distance themselves from Ledger and do something more suave and classic. I figured it would look much closer to Dark Knight Returns Joker, which was very prim and proper. With this it's like they're asking to be unfavorably compared to Ledger.

Yeah. Instead of going the opposite direction, it feels like they've decided to try and be "edgier."

...wait a second: shauner, BatLobster, theshape and I are all in agreement(somewhat)?

You jealous, Tacit? Are you?! :o :hehe:

I don't really think that's fair. One could have said something similar about early impressions of Heath's Joker, who was unkempt, not perma-white, and wearing messy facepaint -- something Joker goons and thugs have been known to do. Quite different from The Joker we were used to at the time.

At the end of the day, though, it's all about context. While he may have some different aesthetic aspects than previous versions of The Joker, he could still wind up being just about everything we know and love about The Joker (just as Heath's was).

I'm willing to give them the chance to prove that to us and see how it plays out. But, man, if he didn't have the forehead tattoo and metal teeth, I'd probably be all on board with this already and I think most people would be.

Woke up...looked at it again, still think it sucks. The only thing I can say is if this is some sort of prank to wind up all the fanboys (which would be a pretty darn funny way to celebrate Joker's birthday) like some have theorized, I'd have to tip my cap to Ayer.

Whatever you can say about Heath's look, from the first photo onwards, I never saw Heath Ledger. Those early pictures had me transfixed, even when I wasn't sure how to feel about them. All I see here is Jared Leto trying to be The Joker, and that's the last thing I'd want to say.

I honestly think they tried too hard to both top and get away from any image of Ledger's Joker. They needed to bring some elegance back to the character, not turn him into the frontman of a Nu Metal band.

And for the record... I LOVED the first official image of Ledger's Joker. It had a mysterious creepy quality to it. Not like this Saw-ish thing Ayer is going for.

I completely agree. Jared's Joker is totally the nu-metal counterpart to Heath's punk, hahaha.

The funny thing is my buddy and I were just recently talking about how the first 30 Seconds to Mars record is kind of nu-metally.

Now THESE were the days... :hehe:

I wish this was the case. :csad:

When I first saw this image on my Facebook I didn't read the post, thank God I did because I would never have guessed it was The Joker. He looks like a singer from a failed heavy metal band and has undergone some mid-life crisis with the tattos and ****.

I am fine with the smile tattoo, very creative and if he puts his arm around his face like Batman does with his cape it'll look creepy. The Jester Skull is fine but "HA HA" is lame and Jesus do we need "damaged" on his forehead to literally, literally, spell out to the audience he's crazy?

I don't hate the design, I just don't like it but I think elements of it like the skinny/muscle body and the tattos is different and interesting. I'll need to see him in action and wearing the iconic purple suit (please have him wear it!?!?)

Also where's that big red Joker smile :(

Now that I've slept on it, and let it all sink in, I think I'm more calm about it.

Nope, never mind, it still ****in sucks!
