It completely embraces the idea of the Batman and Bruce's struggle to become Batman again. The number of seconds he is the suit isn't the only indication of characterization or focus.

Oh, for sure. I never said it didn't embrace him being Batman, but whenever I read articles where people say TDKR is the one Bat-film where Nolan truly embraced the source material and the character or whatever; it just rubs me wrong. Nolan embraced the character of Batman from the get-go, IMO.

You can see Nolan's fatherhood manifesting itself in Inception and Interstellar's stories. When Cooper in Interstellar sees his daughter age by 23 years, it's a metaphor for Nolan's fear that he'll find his kids all grown up when he's done with filmmaking.

Interestingly, in almost all of Nolan's films, the wife of the main protagonist is either at risk of dying or dead. In TDK, Rachel Dawes died. In Inception, she's gone insane. In Interstellar, she's gone prior to the movie starting.

Say, I always wondered this to an extent. If Batman Begins came out today or a slight few years later, would they have been able to keep the Ra's twist a secret?

Now to be fair, I wasn't following films too closely back then (I was too young), but it's my understanding people didn't go in expecting Neeson to play Ra's the same way they knew Cotillard was Talia or Pierce was Mandarin (I know the latter case was more of a surprise, but it still leaked relatively early). I even talked to some people who, going into the film, didn't know who the villain was period.

Didn't the entire script leak? So, technically, they didn't even manage to keep it a secret back in 2004/2005.

As always though, only the online die-hards would have known about it and most probably kept away from the script.

Even with that leak, the online superhero fan community wasn't as sprawling and prominent as it is now. I didn't follow BB's production as intently as we do for films now. Thus, I had no idea of the "twist" going into the film until I started picking up on various clues and hints in the movie itself. That script leak wasn't big news like it would be if it happened today. Today, the script leak would be reported on every major film outlet and tons of people would scour the internet to find it.

As for whether the twist would stay a secret if the film was coming out now, I think it would depend on how the production was handled. Look at BvS. Any twists, turns, and plot points about that movie are completely unknown at this point because they did an incredible job of keeping the production on lock. The finale of BB with Neeson was entirely filmed on sets or sound stages, so the Ra's twist certainly wouldn't have leaked due to set photos. The only way it would have leaked today is if someone close to the production chose to spoil it (which is likely these days), some ****** person like El Mayimbe caught wind of a "scoop", or if the script leaked like it did then.

Yeah, it's a whole different landscape today. It's all over your Facebook feed the second it leaks.

I believe I was dating when BB came out, got married when TDK came out and had my first born the year TDKR came out. I swear, all a coincidence.
I knew nothing about BB and actually had been away from comics and anything related for about 10 years. BB struck such a chord with me that I can't say I experienced since the original Star Wars trilogy.
Probably not as memorable as the money burning scene, but one of my favourite Joker moments in TDK is when he swings his arm around, and without looking, nonchalantly shoots the bus driver.

I love that moment too. To me that's Heath Joker's "Bob, gun" moment. Totally different things, but both just show how The Joker will take a life with such an air of triviality about it.

Haha great story, I remember I was dating and we saw TDK together, then TDKR came out like a month before we got married (same girl) and I still remember talking to my friends about the movie at our wedding.

Ha, too funny. Luckily for me I never forget my wedding anniversary because I remember TDK coming out on the 17th which helps me remember that I got married 2 days earlier on the 15th.

My girlfriend and I kind of have a hazy timeline for when we started being "official", but technically seeing TDK at a 2am showing (yes) was our first date. Helpful reference point to have. :woot:

I had no idea TDK was such a cupid's arrow for Bat fans here lol.

One of my best friends met his girlfriend at the Dark Knight premier as well.

You know what, I could totally see it. I actually made several friends while waiting on line for the viral prologue screening and TDK itself. There is just such a great atmosphere, everyone there is bonded by a common interest and it's very easy to strike up a conversation with someone. Much more natural than randomly approaching someone in a bar. Plus, nerdy girls. :hrt:

How do you meet someone at a premiere? I was too ''in the zone'' to notice anything other than the movie. :hehe:
The wait before the movie was long. The line was wrapped around the building, on the streets. Even the news were there asking my friends about TDK. So there was a lot of people talking to each other even if we didn't all know one another. I dont really remember if she was a friend of a friend kinda thing, or just randomly there, but a lot of ppl were making friends that night.

That's very cool... I guess those waiting in line at Irish cinemas just aren't as friendly.

Um, when there's a hot girl who likes Batman, I sure as heck notice

A naked chick could have been sitting beside me during my initial screening of The Dark Knight... and I still wouldn't have noticed. :o

Anybody giving this a watch tonight to celebrate it's 10th anniversary? Still one of the best comic-book movies ever and certainly the best super-hero origin story ever put on screen.

You know, I'd very much like to. If not tonight then hopefully at some point this week. Been a while since I've given Begins a solid beginning to end watch.
