The military knew Luthor had contractors there too, but it was classified. There was probably a paper trail, and I would imagine it became unclassified after the Doomsday incident. But since this wasn't the Lex Luthor courtroom drama film...we don't neccessarily need to see all that.
It doesn't need to be played out in detail in the film to explain or justify it. But you cannot just leave it up to the audiences speculations and assumptions. it's bad writing. Plain and simple.

I kinda get where they were trying to go with that but it doesn't make sense. That's like me finding a Smith & Wesson .50 cal bullet after a gang fight in my hood and accusing the billionaire CEO of S&W of being responsible for it being there. I'd get laughed at

Except the bullets were exceptional; they couldn't be gotten from just anywhere. That was what Lois' scene at the Daily Planet with Perry before going to DC was all about. Her follow up with General confirmed that it was a scheme, if I'm not mistaken.

So is the Clark Kent persona dead? He had an open casket service in Smallville & obit in the Daily Planet.

When he returns in JL, will he only be Superman?

I think they're killing him off like that yeah. Kind of the opposite ending of TDKReturns

I don't think it is bad writing, I think Snyder cut it out. He mentions how the Ultimate Cut extends the ending too. Not that it needed to be extended.

Yet you guys are *****ing about it not being played out in detail...

The movie shows you the investigative steps. There's no rule about what is or isn't bad writing when it comes to proving a villain did it. This is ridiculous.

They were a new military issue from LexCorp. Prototype.

*Few months later*

BREAKING NEWS! Superman returns from the DEAD! The Daily Planet has the exclusive!

Perry: KENT! Where the hell have you been these last couple of months?!

Clark Kent: Sorry about that Chief! i was held hostage by a bunch of Terrorists asking for a ransom these last few months, nobody answered them so they just let me go.

Perry: riiiight.... Just get back on that sports column! Here this new player Stone's been making headlines, go out there and get me an exclusive!

Thats how you fix that mess Snyder just created. :o

In the comics, he has simply gone missing in action.

Doesn't matter though. Lex is the CEO of LexCorp. Think of the first Iron Man movie when Tony got taken hostage and the terrorist cell showed him his new prototype missiles they stole. Would Tony himself go to prison for those missiles being used without his knowledge? Hell no. He's the CEO of the company with a literal army of lawyers that would cost the government millions in red tape just trying to secure an indictment. If anything, Lex would throw some lower level exec under the bus. That bullet can't do anything to him unless they caught him shooting it himself on camera.

You could probably prove it was likely, to a certainable degree, the bullet was lodged into her notebook. But you would have to further prove that the bullet was fired in that desert, in that scenario, from that gun, which was fired by a man who was hired and under explicit orders from Lex Luthor. We are talking about an international investigation which requires the full cooperation from the governments of multiple countries. None of that is happening.

That man was someone who Bruce found evidence that connected him to the White Portuguese ship Lex used to transport Kryptonite. He was likely taken into custody as a result of Batman's successful rescue of Martha Kent and probably would have made a deal to incriminate Luthor in exchange for a lesser sentence. Plus, the notebook likely has sand residue that could be analyzed to be the same as the location of the incident. The General seemed like he could corroborate as well, and after the capitol bombing and Luthor's arrest for that crime, I'm sure he would have been more forthcoming and willing to go on record. Regardless, the movie tells us that Lois proved it, and if she did then her subplot wasn't pointless and she wasn't useless.

Would someone explain to me the logic behind the motes of dirt floating off the lid of the casket? Of course I understand what it wants to imply, but how is Superman doing that? Does he have the power to move matter without touching it in this universe?

What did the Newspaper say on how Clark Kent died???

Also, since Lex knows Bruce is Batman, why doesn't he expose him when he was jailed???

Clark Kent's a ghost in the world, he could easily come up with an excuse to come back to work.

The headline read that he was killed in action reporting the news, but maybe a screenshot when the DVD is out will provide a better look at details.

I liked how it was implied that Perry knew Superman is/was Clark Kent.

Pretty sure he was a ghost in the screenplay too.

Except obviously that didn't happen. Sure, we can speculate other scenarios that would have exculpated Lex, but the truth is the story tells us that he didn't get away with it. Would it have been nice to see how it all got put together? Absolutely. However, just because it wasn't onscreen doesn't mean that the scenario you suggested above did happen and thus it doesn't make sense. Clearly, Lex was able to be linked directly to the bullets and to other crimes.

The problem with the Clark Kent death is that they had a funeral for him with an open casket, so he can't be presumed missing and show back up later. There is literally no plausible way to bring him back, which is a shame and my main complaint with the movie.

Right before he flies in MOS, he put his fist on the ground and the earth started vibrating similar to the dirt on the casket. It's as if to symbolize he was about to fly out of the casket. I think? Lol

I think the idea was to portray the dirt particles as moving in the same way that the ice particles moved when he learned to fly in MOS. Basically the sheer force of his energy causes particles in his immediate area to move. That's what I think they were going for anyway.
Edit: Citadel beat me to it.

If they would have shown or told the audience that then I'd believe it. someone said there's a TV playing in the background saying he was arrested for the Senate bombing but I didn't catch that. Either way, something has to be said. and probably better than they did. Six people on this board who've seen the movie just debated why he was arrested. If your target fanbase who pays attentions to the little things didn't pick that up and has to plug plot holes with random guesses it's poor storytelling.
