The Wonder Woman Costume Thread - - Part 11

I agree, Wolf.

If a designer doesn't push the redesign of a classic outfit far enough, it can end up in that grey area where it's not classic enough to placate the purist crowd, nor is it different enough to please the redesign supporters. I wouldn't say this costume is quite in that category (most people, including myself, seem to think it's acceptable/decent at the very least), but it has a whiff of it (as does the Aquaman costume). Just a few slight alterations would have satisfied the redesign crowd, it seems.

It is so close to what was posted above that it seems almost pedantic to say it should be closer.

I'll wait and see how the colors look in other shots. Superman's costume looked more brighter and beautiful in the BvS trailer than in the initial photo.

Only thing I'm hoping gets changed is the tiara. Maybe she wears a different one in the solo film.

I like the boots the way they are.

I don't think Wonder Woman's costume is by any stretch bad, but I think it could look a lot better with a few adjustments/alterations.

I'd like to see the colors made brighter, the boots shorter, the skirt longer, and I wouldn't say no to adding straps for the bodice.

Obviously, the new costume design is an exercise in compromise - between WW’s famous iconography and something a tad more practical and less (s)exploitative. Now, for a different character, a short skirt might raise eyebrows; but compared to the original/classic WW (who essentially sported a strapless bathing suit) any skirt - even a short one - looks positively conservative. :word:

I still think the skirt, if you can even call it that, looks awesome, especially how it sorta evokes the shape of the classic costume. And despite its short length, it doesn't feel trashy to me at all, probably because of what she's wearing underneath it.

Indeed.

And I do like this costume quite a lot, actually, even though I was initially for some bold redesign. I like how close it comes to the look from comics, but still manages to be tasteful (which comic book one never was). It is just the skirt length that irks me a bit.

Well, I did say "slight alterations".

I know what you mean, but the costume we have looks almost as if it was directly adapted from the picture you posted.

I suppose I am content to simply be grateful for what we have. For so long, everything had to be muted black rubber/leather. The Trinity's costumes are light years away from that.

When you put it this way, I do find it much more difficult to nitpick about certain elements.

Now that the costume has been revealed, I'm actually more nit-picky about dark hair/blue eyes for Wondy. Gal is a fantastic gorgeous woman who has chameleon-like features. Let her be "dolled" up for the role. Darkling blue/black hair is a hallmark of Wonder Woman. I loved the pictures on set that came out with the blue dress and dark hair, just perfect as Diana.

It would be better for Gal anyways, so that she can have more of a career with many roles, if she is not exactly like herself in the part of Wonder Woman. When the movie hits the screen, what is it going to be like for Gal? Her normal life will be gone to celebrity worldwide much more so than she is now. She can have dark/black hair for Wonder Woman, and back sunny golden brown for herself.

I think that just some slight alterations when it comes to the skirt would do this costume a world of good.

I understand that they wanted to keep the same aesthetic that her classic "panties" had, but sometimes it is better to opt for one thing that works on its own than trying to make a combination of two different versions (I find this in certain elements of Aquaman's costume as well). I'd rather if they went with something closer to this:

250

I agree. Gal is basically wearing an uneven loincloth that gives the impression of a skirt yet pretty much shows as much flesh as the classic panties. I dig the skirt in this pic.

Nah, brown hair/eyes works fine. We good. :o

Gal in WW has a very dark brown giving the effect of black in some shot, especially in concept art and in the statue.
Blue eyes was created because it was popular back in the day, not because it was an amazon thing, so I think having her look as it is, works better IMO.
But if she has a secret ID. then we can see her more dolled-up as in the spy pics. and let the gorgeous warrior be :sly:

She's a chamaleon as you've said, she can have many other colors and characterizations. That's not a problem.

That skirt while longer is wavy and doesn't have the "restrictive" and it could show much than Gal's WW is really, the other while shorter is more compact, and it doesn't show anything it shouldn't. That's why this costume is perfect, but as many have said, merchandise and in upcoming movies, the costume will have improvements or changes even if only few.

I respectfully disagree, those minor details aren't that important, that's the point, the suit is almost perfection, and as you've said this costume evokes the ones that didn't want the wrong parts shown nor the purist who wanted a the classic outfit.

While it can be improved (it will in upcoming films, because something called merchandise will require even little changes to sell them) this outfit triumph having a happy medium, at least IMO.

Love the idea of this being how she flies but it would be a bit to reminiscent of Hawkgirl and I really want her to have an appearance.

I like how the sword guard looks like olive branch. You know... symbol of peace:

And a bit more of shield and some interesting writings on it... is it definitely Greek alphabet? it looks more like some runes to me...

Can't wait for some geeks with Greek language skills to decode the letters.

I also agree with Jaymes. Wings would be too reminiscent of Hawkgirl.

I am pretty sure this is not Greek alphabet. And it makes sense for them to have a language/writing system of their own, as they are supposed to be a separate culture from Ancient Greek one. Existent in their mythology, and maybe even influenced by their culture, but a different culture nevertheless. They're envisioned as strangers to Greeks.

Oh, and I like those engravings that seems to be influenced from alchemical/astrological symbolism on sword a lot. It is a beautiful weapon.

So not quite "boots" - but better than just shin guards and straps. :word:
These are "greaves", which are actually shin guards that ancient Greek, Roman used to wear in battle.:cwink: I supposed that Wilkson used some design components of ancient Greek/Roman greaves and used it for WW. So yes, not a true boot.

Here's one example:

Indeed. I thought we deduced this months ago?

Confirmed by a coworker that the lettering is Greek mixed with something else, most likely made up. Greeklish, if you would.

Oh my bad. I thought that I read that some people were under impression that these were "boots". HA. So no worry!

What is new though is that we get a clearer photo showing her leg from the side and the straps(?) can be clearly seen.

Well, a (fairly impressive) cosplay pic was recently posted in which the calves were exposed (straps only). And I think there was some speculation that this detail was accurately copied from the mannequin display. But now we have evidence to the contrary. :cwink:
