so, I was curious about Pro Enhanced games and install sizes. So, I uninstalled/reinstalled Rise of Tomb Raider from disc. The base game was about 16 GB with a patch/update of around 1.7 GB, for a total size of around 18 GB. And that includes the base game, plus Season Pass DLC, plus the PS4 VR mode, plus whatever Pro enhancements they added, I guess. At 18 GB, that was rather light, imo.
I then checked the total install size for Rise on the X1S, which included the base game plus Season Pass DLC. And that size was around 25 GB!!
so......go figure. The Pro version, which has Pro enhancements including a 4K mode, was actually smaller than the X1S version!!
So, I don't know if the Pro version of Rise is considered "true 4K" or if they had to install 4K assets. But whatever they did, they managed to keep the file size relatively small and even smaller than the X1S version. I certainly didn't need to download a large 10/20 GB 4K asset file or wait all day for the thing to install at my current internet speed.
That makes me wonder just how the X will handle those 4K assets and just how large they will be.
Forza 7 was listed at a whopping 100 GB. But how much of that is the base game and how much is the 4K assets? If I'm installing from a disc, how much will come from the disc and how much will have to be downloaded in a patch.
And if Rise gets an X patch ( and I hope it does ), I'm curious to see how that file size compares to both the Pro and X1S version.
If 4K assets on the X end up on average being only an extra 1 - 5 GB in size, that would be great. That's not as big of a deal.
If they end up averaging around 10 - 20 GB extra, that's ok and still somewhat workable.
but if they end up averaging around 40 GB or more, that's where problems will arise for those of us with ok internet speed and data caps.
Hopefully, MS will shed more light on this over the next few months.
