Wondered if anyone had any ideas what this might be.
I just switched from my PS3 to my Xbox One S to watch Blu-Rays. I've been having no end of trouble on my PS3- volume and sound problems, Paramount Blu-Rays specifically not wanting to work and an awful grind when some discs were in the machine.
For the most part, the Xbox One S has been fine, apart from a whirring when 4K discs are in- which I think fades after it runs for a couple of minutes. And more often, you can't hear it over the film anyway, unless the volume is really turned down. I've also found that for my own room and hearing, setting the console up for Mono has been the most satisfactory thing for my hearing. It has, by my ear anyway, made dialogue far clearer at the far end of my room than it was turned off.
But I just popped Stargate in tonight, and the console has decided throughout the film to make a sort of loading sound, and when it does the film freezes for a moment, then carries on. And it does this regularly through the film. If I try to rewind, it struggles to move back over that part of the disc.
I have cleaned it, but that has not helped. I've also not, as far as I know, had the issue with any other discs.
Even stranger, the disc works fine on my old PS3 and on my PS4.
But even the menus act up using the Xbox One S.
And so far, I can't work out what the problem might be.
Overall though- maybe it's all in my head, but I'm finding, so far, picture quality, motion and sound better on my Xbox One S. So, apart from this one issue, I'm happy enough so far. And after buying some 4K films- especially Blade Runner- I'm very happy to be using it.
Overall, though, it's a minor problem that doesn't appear to be happening with anything else. But it feels like I've swapped one problem- PS3 not playing Paramount discs- for another- Xbox One S having an issue with Stargate.
