Thor Ragnarok Spoilers - Part 1

Whoa what a great experience as a Thor fan. Easily my fave McU film.

Everyone got their due.

Hela is ridiculously powerful.
Thor is a couple notches lower then her power level.
Surtur stronger then everyone.

I felt the tone of the movie had to be what it was. The first two movies didn't build enough of a foundation for the 3rd film to take a serious tone from. Regardless I loved the angle. Refreshing execution. Speaking of Executioner there was a lot of shout outs to famous Thor panels. ''Twas great

Thor (fully powered) and Hela were a lot closer in power than I thought they would be.

If it wasn't for her insane durability, they would be about even. On the bridge she caught him off guard when he was yelling at the spaceship, before that they seemed fairly competitive.

Hoping we get some more I feel like it is possible with the cast that is still around.

Loved Thor's psycho crusher move.

Glad Immigrant song was in th actual movie, it made scenes even better.

That scene with Thor getting all lightning-y at the end with the music was pure gold.

Also, I have an unbelievable woman crush on Hela/Cate Blanchett.

Thor certainly held his own against Hela and got his knocks in, but I don't quite agree that they would be even if it wasn't just for Hela's crazy durability. She's an insane fighter that can take out whole legions of soldiers single handedly, I don't think even Thor in beast mode could take out that many in one go without even breaking a sweat. Thor knew he could never defeat her, not even he, Hulk, Loki and Valkyrie together could touch her. Hence, Surtur and the lesser of two evils. The destruction of Asgard vs Hela's violent assault on the Universe at large.

Wasn't it? The whole scene kicks so much damn ass, seeing Thor at the height of his power like that is a treat for Thor fans everywhere, especially to the backdrop of Immigrant Song. :drl:

Join the ever increasing club. :woot:

She must return didn't see an actual death. She was so good in the amount of time she had.

I'm almost convinced that this isn't going to be the last we'll see of Hela in the MCU, that 'death' scene was way too ambiguous to be anything other than deliberate.

How can you defeat someone who is invulnerable? You can have all the skills in the world but if you can't hurt them, what does it matter?

Blow for blow on the bridge they were going tit for tat, Thor was even throwing her around. Valkyrie really wasn't much help, Hela casually swatted her away.

Also key word I say they would be "about" even, meaning not exactly even but close enough to be competitive. Go watch Thor's fight with the Frost Giants in Thor 1 and even his battle at the beginning of Ragnarok, he's faced similar odds as Hela did against the Asgardian army.

You make good points here, and I don't disagree with you. I personally think, from what we've seen, that Hela is the stronger fighter of the two but that's in no way a knock against Thor. Hela is much, much older than him and therefore has potentially thousands of years more fighting experience. She is also Odin's firstborn (and was his 'most powerful weapon') so she is naturally more powerful, the fact that Thor managed to hold his own against her for as long as he did is a testament to how strong and powerful he is in his own right.

Exactly the reason I don't believe for a second that Hela is dead btw. A character that can be stabbed right through the chest (which would kill even an Asgardian) and blasted with the biggest strike of lightning ever and keep on going like nothing has even happened (she didn't have a scratch on her at any point) is clearly nigh invulnerable. Not to mention that the film shows that she can teleport, no being who can do that is just going to stand there and be destroyed when they can just teleport away.

Exactly, I would place Hela above Thor but he's definitely a worthy adversary.

Yeah I just saw the film and I didn't think for a second she was dead.

It really amps his beast mode scenes. The song goes so well with that. Hope we get it in future films too like a signature.

Haha, too late. Just seen your post in the other thread. I KNEW you would like this film with how awesome Thor is in it. :woot::cool::up:

Thor was just a notch below Hela at full power but she was definitely above him.

WHAT did Loki say when Thor suggested to unleash Surtur? He said something, then said "even for me."

Man, I am blown away by Surtur. Someone mentioned that Hela gave him a fight at the end and that it was almost even before he plunged the sword into Asgard. Not at all.

Surtur was literally laughing (you could hear him) as she attempted to stop him.

He just laughed and repeated "I am Asgard's reckoning". I am so glad we got to see Surtur in all his glory like that. It was soooo perfect.

It's also nice to see how this movie managed MCU power scaling at this point.

(Speaking of which, don't forget to check out my sig for this week's mcu battle guys).

But to my point, Hulk and Thor, up to phase 2, have pretty much been the most powerful characters.

Now, this movie did make Thor his superior, Thor did generally get the better of Hulk...as Hulk seemed to *feel* Thor's attacks a lot more than Hulk did. Particularly, after getting hammer slammed across the ring, and lightning punched, he had to literally shake his head back into the battle. Thor was just getting ready to go too.

Then, Thor gets even more powerful. And he is still CLEARLY inferior to Hela. Who can't do a damn thing to Surtur.

Three CLEAR seperate tiers of power, I loved it. Seeing Surtur treat Hulk like a mosquito, and literally laugh at Hela was as about Surtur/power scaled as could be. First MCU movie to totally respect character power levels.

Psychocrusher move?

Also, Thor "biggest lightning bolt in the history of light ing" was awesome.

The sky turning dark, the bolt was HUGE. Loki, Heimdall and everyone else were kind of just like "the god of thunder".

Then the compilation of fighting to the immigrant song was awesome. I will search the depths of youtube to find that scene

Thee more I think about the film the more I love it, I've found myself laughing out loud to myself at remembering some of the jokes, especially when banner lands on the rainbow bridge :D.

I guess I had expectations in my head of Thor and Hulk fighting Surtur, but it was indeed a kind of clever move to use Ragnarok to defeat Hela. :D

Yeah, same. Haven't really stopped thinking about it since last night

It just plays so well in your head over and over. The action, the humor... What a triumph.
