I can't believe people are crying over recorded crappy audio of an unfinished scene and movie.

Why don't we wait till we get an official voice release before the *****ing starts? Sure, it sounds silly, but you guys are beginning to turn on Nolan just like some folks did on Raimi. Some fans.
Man, not to be an arse but your sig is gold in reflection to what you said.

I don't care what accent he has, and if he just spoke a single line to one of his mercs in perfectly accented spanish it should answer any complaints, I think?

Having said that his delivery sounds bizarre and overly theatrical, so I'm hoping it makes more sense in the film.

I still dont "get it". It's kinda creepy and unsettling that they'd use an old wheezy english/southern gentlemen hybrid on some muscle bound masked freak, Nolan always likes to take characters in weird and unprecedented directions, but this feels like Nolan went a step too far to make him unique and unsettling to the point where it's kinda laughable.

Again we've got nothing but positive reports from the people who've witnessed the whole scene, so Hardy acted the **** out of that scene. I think it's just the delivery of the lines in the recording that i hate, rather than the voice. Need to hear more, very very interesting however I just can't get on board with this one yet.

This guy, he gets it. :word:

I think that's the point some people are missing, nobody really wants to dislike or hate this film. I'm really hoping that it turns out better than what I'm seeing and hearing, no doubt about that. The problem is, alot of us aren't seeing something we like lately. Do we just sit down, shut up and not comment and wait for the film to come out? No. Information pops up and people have the right to comment on it. These people either like it, or they don't. I don't. Just because I may not like Bane or Catwoman, or the direction of this film so far doesn't mean that I'll always feel that way. Maybe things will improve, maybe Catwoman does have a cowl, maybe Bane is better. Maybe they're not. All I know is that, as of now I'm not pleased. I remember when I felt the title was odd, but now Bane, Catwoman and the Steelers take the cake.
Hey man, CHRISTOPHER NOLAN is making this movie! Come on, you GOTTA love it, stop being a hater.

it looks like Bane was trying to have a stage performance when he talked to the people of Gotham. correct?

i watched every Nolan movie and this kind of talking fits in NO way in any of his movie. not even with characters like the Joker or Scarecrow.

His voice too unexpected for me not to love it..

Where is the clip of his voice? Sorry to be lazy but these threads move so fast. A link would be appreciated.

I don't know what to think anymore. Bane smaller than Batman and with no muscle definition and talking like a prissy old British man, and Catwoman wearing sunglasses.

I really hope that's not her full "costume", and that Bane sounds different in the finished film, but that's nothing like how Hardy naturally talks, so it's obviously a voice he deliberately chose...for whatever reason. It's a long way from intimidating or menacing.
Yeah I expect the non-venom form of Bane to look at least like a wider version of Ivan Drago. Definitely missing some muscle definition.

I just thought about this. Now I could be way off, but it was just a quick thought. What if Hardy just put on some weird random accent just to mess with people. Like, they know they will be re-recording it in post production, and they knew with a stadium full of people, that someone would record it and put it on the internet? So he did some goofy weird accent just to confuse people.

Honestly though, Old Man Bane is kind of creepy.

Another thing I've been noticing is the influx of fans clamouring that Bane SHOULD be spanish and that would solve everything. Correct me by all means Im not exactly the most read of Batman fans when it comes to bane. But does anything in the core of Bane's character, aka a self made man, wits, strength and vicious brutality...is any of that inherantly Latin/Spanish? Does he have some kind of unique essential trait in his personality that is exclusively Spanish. If not then it doesn't matter if he's british/serbian/russian/south african etc etc it's just aesthetics and doesn't affect the quality of the portrayal or the validity of calling him "Bane".

And don't compare it to a black batman, or a black superman. These characters are worldwide icon's with huge devoted followings, changing that means A LOT more than a semi-popular villain from the comics.

The first part with "Gotham, take control!" is excellent. Theathrical, bizarre, tragic and creepy. It is the second meaning that makes me lol because the delivery on "instrument" makes him sound drunk.

Also loved that he stayed in character even when he raffled out the prices. Some cool method-acting there. ;)

And why on earth would he deliberately put on a different voice to fool people? That would hurt his performance, he needs to be in character in every way to deliver.

Bale's batman voice was ridiculous.
I don't know why people think a lame voice couldn't possibly exist in Nolan's movies.
Bane's voice makes me LOL just as much as batman's voice and facial expressions did in TDK.

:funny:

You don't need to stand up for everything he does!
(In Bale's growling voice) "What? YOOOOOOOUUUUUUUU don't like falafel?"

Interesting..not at all what I was expecting with his voice but interesting nonetheless..

I think the choice of voice makes the character so much more interesting than if he'd been speaking spanish. With spanish, we'd all assume the comic background, but now, we have two or three things: first, where is he from and how did he get to be a merc-leader Also he has an old manner of speaking, almost high class british I would say, that tells us he is a controlled determined leader, and the third is that he sounds (sort of but not entirely) weak, and we have already seen his massive body so thats something he most defiantly is not. Why does he sound out of breath, is the venom/steroids/stuff beginning to run out? etc etc

Yea i kinda got that from his voice too actually. He sounds almost... ill, or something. Maybe he's become so dependant on Venom it's actually keeping him alive, but also killing him?

Nolan added subwoofer to the Joker and Batman's voice. Bane's voice will probably put the Inception fog horn to shame in July 2012.

Overdubbing with a close miked version of the voice is common in action movies, it makes people sound more heavy and badass.

If you've ever seen the film Hot Fuzz in the first half of the movie simon peggs voice is naturally recorded, in the second half where it goes into overblown action cliche its obviously close micced for all his one liners.

This sounds really good, hope youre right! It would mean its not just about Batman hindering him fromusing venom, thats kills him, but to stop bane some other way

One thing that also occurred to me is that he's speaking through a megaphone, which is also going to distort his voice to a degree.

I'm not going to say TDKR will be bad, but as of now, my expectations are very low.

-A small Bane
-A "cat-less" Catwoman
-A Bane who sounds like a mentally challenged old man
-An action scene at a football stadium?

These are reasons that personally attract me more to the movie.

Yes, Bane's size established a thematic metaphor of sorts in previous interpretation-- this argument has been repeated many times. So what? From what we can decipher so far, a character is being illustrated that has the resources to overpower Batman and could challenge him physically in ways similar to how Joker clashed with him psychologically and philosophically. I would hope this is what people should expect and recognize from the character, first and foremost over aesthetic details. Whether he does this as someone short or tall in stature pales in comparison to those key character traits.

As far as Catwoman is concerned, I was skeptical of her being in the film in the first place. I didn't quite understand how the character would fit within the narrative arc of the trilogy, and her portrayal in other films doesn't have the best track record either. Even in Returns, which has been mentioned in other threads, we're talking about a character that gains her identity by being revived by alley cats. No thanks. Given the nature of the official images given a few days ago, it appears that Kyle's character will develop into her alter-ego similar to how Bruce progressed into his role of Batman in Begins. This is a storyline that I would much rather be interested in watching. And ultimately, the most important part of her character in this film I would speculate will come from her interactions with Batman, and how that relationship allows him to progress as a character. That is something to be focused on much more than how Nolan integrates visual imagery.

I thought Bane's voice was interesting, and given his strained speech would imagine that it has to do something with his mask or venom. I have no problems with it, and welcome the re-adaptation with open arms.

And the stadium scene? After reading the news on the site the past few days, the sequence might be one of the more captivating scenes in the movie
